Front Cover ImageShot Type- I have chosen to do a medium shot to show the whole upper body and face as it is the most personal type of shot that connects with the readers that is not too intrusive. I have chosen this simple background as I intend to change it for my final production of the front cover. There are spaces around the main subjects so there is space to place the cover lines.

Subject- The focus of the main image is a typical teenage gamer to appeal to my magazines main demographic which is late teen males as they will most easily connect and identify with the image. Since it is the related to the article I will be writing about, a new young face entering the competitive gaming scene may interest other readers who are interested to also turn professional, it may be inspiring for them.

Body Language- The pose I have chosen is a strong and confident one, the cross arms symbolize accepting any challenge given and being prepared to overcome it.

Facial Expression- the facial expression shown by the model is a sincere smile, in order to signify that he loves his career choice and is having fun while making a living.

Content Page ImageShot type- I have chosen to do a medium shot of myself and the chosen props, the computer. This is done in order to relate the picture to my articles well as get more personal as the readers will see me playing games for this photo.

Props- for my props I used a computer and headphones to simulate playing a video game. This picture is relevant since I'm making a gaming magazine and it helps convince the readers I know what I'm talking about. The image on the computers is that of a game suited for late teens which appeals my target audience

Body Language and Facial Expression- the body language in this photo is very simple as it is my typical gaming pose when I play. The Facial expression of the model is very focused into the computer screen to show he is very serious about gaming.

Double Spread Article ImageShot Type- for this shot I have chosen to do a close-up shot without any props to get very personal with my magazine readers as I have chosen to do an interview as my double spread article. To get on a personal level they can identify the most with what the interview contains with a close-up shot as they will feel like they know the real person behind the interview.

Facial Expression and Pose- the facial expression of the article subject is a very serious one as the interview deals with his gaming career as well as personal life. He looks like he is about to confess and is deep in thought, making his seem more honest to the readers. The model does not look straight into the camera but rather looks down as if he's reflecting from the past, showing sincerity which the consumers will appreciate. He has rested on his hand for this photo in order to give off the impression that he is looking back at his career and the struggle he had to get to the point where he is now.

As main article tittles featured on the front cover were created I have started rearranging and positioning them to achieve visually pleasing outcome.

In addition circular graphical elements were added to create interest with textual elements.

Page 13: As Media Studies Magazine Production

Final Front CoverThe masthead is in the EXCESS font as it is a visually exciting one and will attract the readers. For the masthead and the rest of the front cover articles I have chosen a red and white color scheme as I believe they are a great mix due to their contrast and mutual complementary nature, standing out and catching the potential readers attention. I have included the graphical element , the lifeline, as a part of my masthead design in order to show that gaming is an essential part of life for those who choose to purchase my magazine. I have also included necessary information about the magazine on top and under the masthead such as the website, issue date and number and price tag.

For my background I have chosen a very geeky design idea with the technological matrix style in order to appeal to my target audience more. The green background also looks alright with the red and white color scheme.

For my main image I have chosen a medium shot of the model, smiling in order to show the audience how much fun he is having while gaming as a career. I have put him in the centre of this issue with the article left or right aligned as the main image is the main selling point of my article. The model is wearing gaming headphones to confirm the theme of the magazine. The secondary image is that of the popular game that came out recently. It shows article variety and the different aspects the gaming magazine has.

The articles have the red background in order to stand out and show the main side articles of this issue. There are three fonts I have used in order to have some variety and less monotony. The graphical feature in the left corner is used to showcase more review articles about games as this is a gaming magazine, it helps the magazine attract the audience who might not be interested in the main article.

Development Process- First Content Page DraftFor my content page masthead I have decided to use the same font style, EXCESS, that I used in my front cover masthead in order to create a sense of familiarity and to make the magazine are structures and serious. The color scheme style I have chosen is very similar to modern gaming magazine content pages as it focuses on three colors. For my selection I have chosen red, white and black as they are very contrasting and complimentary style that is visually attractive and eye-catching due to the strength of red, but also well balanced because of the black and white.

The main image of my magazines content page is placed in the most eye-catching position in the content page as it will be used as an important device to interest the readers about what the magazine contains.

The left side of my content page is devoted to articles that are game reviews. I have used different fonts for page numbers and articles to make it easier to read and more amusing. There is also a relevant image above the articles.

However for the layout and articles on the left side I would change them to make more space by rearranging and deleting some as they seem to be to cramped and it makes the magazine seem amateurish.

Page 15: As Media Studies Magazine Production

Development Process- Second Content Page DraftIn this draft I have fixed my top part of the content page as I have extended the red strapline width to also include the image of the editor. I have included the position of the person in the picture as well as his name, and chosen the red color in order to make it visible. I have also included information through which the readers can contact me through by including the magazine website, email and publishers name. this shows that the magazine is serious and wishes to improve relations and take suggestions from consumers.

I have added the article information about my double spread article under the main image. I have used the same OCR STD font for the page number, however I used two different fonts for the text, myriad pro and Incised BDcn dt. I have included a quote from my article in order to interest the readers by showing the ambitions of the interviewee. I have also used the red color on the word interview to make it obvious its my main article as the color red is eye-catching and strong so it easily stands out compared to the other black text.

Page 16: As Media Studies Magazine Production

Development Process- Final Content Page DraftMy final version is very similar to my first two drafts as the top part, main article feature and left side of the layout have already been designed and approved in the previous drafts only the right side under the main article feature was remodeled in order to be more visually appealing and easier to understand as the previous version was too crowded which ruined design appeal by trying to input too many articles and pictures.

The layout has been improved as I have taken out 3 articles in order to create more space and make it more organized. I have also properly transformed the articles in Photoshop use the transform scale tool in order to make them proportional. In addition to that I have excluded and image as three was too much and would make the magazine seem amateurish. Instead of three columns I have decide to arrange the articles into two columns as it is much more spacious and compatible with the readers as they will get discouraged to read it is it is too difficult and demanding to do so.

Page 17: As Media Studies Magazine Production

Development Process-First Double Spread Article Draft

For my masthead I have chosen an indented style that will allow me to input a short introduction under it. The font I have used is the same as the front cover and content page mastheads in order to keep consistency and show off professionalism.

The bottom of the pages show the page numbers as well as the website information so the readers can contact the magazine publishers.

For the image I have chosen a negative image of the model as it works with my chosen color scheme of red white and black .the pose of the model shows he is serious about this interview and has a felling as if he was looking back into the past. The glasses are there to show off the models geeky side. The quotes are placed on the same page as the image in order to avoid blank spaces and to make the image itself more involving.

Page 18: As Media Studies Magazine Production

Development Process-Second Double Spread Article Draft

Compared to the first draft I have input my article and short introduction in this draft. The short introduction in located in the indented part of the masthead and is easy to begin due to the huge red A which helps the consumers clearly see that this is where the article begins. The whole intro is also in italic to distinguish itself from the article and make itself more visually intriguing.

The article itself fits on the page in two columns separated by a inserted graphical line so the readers can follow the article easily. The questions are identified as they are red in order to grab the readers attentions. The article is relevant as it was from a real interview so all the answers are authentic.

Page 19: As Media Studies Magazine Production

Development Process- Final Double Spread Article Draft

The masthead was designed like this in order to have a clear starting point in the article due to the indentation and because of its visual appeal. The title of the article s designed in a way that stands out and captivate the readers.

The left side is completely the same as in the previous second draft with the exception of a graphical image in the background which is a gaming console made up all different types of other gaming consoles. This is to make it still obvious that the interview is gaming relevant.

The main image covers the whole page mimicking the modern style for interview article, this is done in order to create a personal connection between the audience and interviewee. There are no gaming props on the model in order to make it seem more honest and person based rather than gaming based.

The quote “living the dream” is put in the hand that’s pointing upward to show that the person has even more ambitions and wishes to achieve them.
