Upcoming  Events    1.    New  Brunswick  College  of  Craft  and  Design  Three-­‐studio  Exhibition  opening  Jan  16    Join  us  at  The  Gallery  of  the  New  Brunswick  College  of  Craft  and  Design  on  Thursday,  January  16  from  4:30-­‐6pm  for  a  reception  for  the  three-­‐studio  alumni  exhibition,  Momentum.    Come  meet  the  artists  and  see  their  latest  works:  from  Jewellery/Metal  -­‐  Christian  Demmings,  Patty  Belyea  Goodine,  and  Audree  H.  St-­‐Amour;  Ceramics  -­‐  Suzanne  Babineau,  Lee  Horus  Clark,  and  Darren  Emenau;  and  Textiles  -­‐  Erin  Hamilton,  Christopher  Harding,  and  Alexandra  Keely.      Everyone  Welcome.  Contact:  Karen  Ruet  at  [email protected]|  457.6805    2.    Business  Basics  Information  Sessions    Have  a  business  idea?    Have  you  thought  about  starting  your  own  business?    Enterprise  Fredericton  is  offering  FREE:  Business  Basics  Information  Sessions      You  will  learn  about:  starting  your  own  business;  available  business  planning  tools  and  funding  resources;  and  ongoing  access  to  business  counselling  advice  and  support  services.      Business  Basics  will  be  offered  several  times  a  month.    You  can  select  one  of  the  upcoming  sessions  as  follows:      Bi-­‐weekly  Thursdays,  12-­‐1pm  at  Enterprise  Fredericton,  10  Knowledge  Park  Drive  (please  bring  your  lunch)  January  16,  February  13,  February  27.    Evenings,  6:30-­‐8:30pm  at  the  Fredericton  Public  Library  on  Wednesday,  January  15  and  Thursday,  February  20        Pre-­‐registration  is  required  and  space  is  limited  –  contact:    info@ent-­‐fredericton.ca  |  444.4686    Information:    http://www.enterprisefredericton.ca/calendar/254910      3.    Two  Print  Making  exhibitions  open  at  Gallery  78  Jan  17    Paintings  from  the  estate  of  Dawn  McCracken  celebrates  the  high  realism  paintings  of  Dawn  McCracken.  Born  in  Fredericton,  Dawn  McCracken  studied  painting  at  the  Art  School  of  the  Montreal  Museum  of  Fine  Arts  and  through  summer  school  sessions  at  UNB  and  Queen's  University  with  a  number  of  important  Canadian  painters.    Dawn  devoted  her  later  years  to  working  in  her  studio  at  Young's  Cove  Road  in  Grand  Lake  where  she  painted  the  landscape  of  Southern  New  Brunswick  with  remarkable  detail  and  passion.        Dawn  described  her  love  of  nature  as,  “an  urgent  message  in  an  unknown  language  which  I  try  to  transcribe  faithfully  and  objectively  without  interposing  my  own  personality."    Dawn  McCracken  passed  away  in  January  2013.        Print  Making  presents  a  wide  variety  of  print  making  techniques  by  gallery  artists  including  Vicki  MacLean,  Susan  Paterson,  Ann  Manuel  and  Paul  Miller.      Both  exhibitions  will  be  on  view  during  Fredericton’s  “Frostival”  Gallery  Hop:  Friday,  January  24,  5-­‐7pm      We  welcome  your  visit  at  Gallery  78,  796  Queen  St.  (corner  of  Church  and  Queen),  Fredericton.    Open:  Tues  to  Fri  10am-­‐5pm,    Sat  10am-­‐3pm,  Sun  1-­‐4pm  or  visit  virtually  at:  www.gallery78.com      4.    Photography  exhibition  Redeemed  re-­‐creation  of  Fred  Ross  Mural  opens  at  City  of  Saint  John  Gallery  Jan  17      The  City  of  Saint  John  Gallery,  located  in  the  Saint  John  Arts  Centre  is  proud  to  present  Redeemed  –  a  7-­‐week  exhibition  of  photographs  by  New  Brunswick  artist  James  Wilson  documenting  the  re-­‐creation  of  the  Fred  Ross  Mural  at  UNB  Fredericton.  The  exhibition  opens  Friday  January  17  from  5:30-­‐7:30pm.      The  exhibition,  organized  by  the  Fredericton’s  UNB  Art  Centre,  is  a  photographic  account  of  the  re-­‐creation  of  The  Destruction  of  War  and  Rebuilding  the  World  through  Education,  a  mural  originally  painted  by  Fred  Ross  in  1948  at  Fredericton  High  School.    The  murals  were  subsequently  destroyed  and  lost  over  time,  though  the  original  cartoons  were  held  in  the  collection  of  the  National  Gallery  of  Canada.    The  new  work  can  now  be  seen  in  the  Richard  J.  Currie  Center  at  the  University  of  New  Brunswick  in  Fredericton.    Work  on  the  re-­‐creation  began  early  in  2011  at  the  Saint  John  Arts  Centre  and  was  undertaken  by  Amy  Ash,  Sara  Griffin,  and  Fred  Willar  under  the  direction  of  Fred  Ross.    Saint  John  photographer  James  Wilson  captured  this  process  in  an  exciting  series  of  black  and  white  images.

The  choir’s  musical  education  structure  includes  instruction  in  sight-­‐singing,  ear-­‐training,  rhythmic  reading,  as  well  as  Master  Classes,  and  workshops  with  Drama  Coaches,  Choreographers,  and  Choral  Experts.    Repertoire  ranges  from  folk  to  classical  to  pop  and  musical  theatre,  and  includes  original  compositions  by  Musical  Director  and  Composer,  Anne  Marie  Murphy.      Location:  Charlotte  Street  Arts  Center,  (multi-­‐purpose  room)  Wednesdays,  5:30-­‐6:30pm      Term:  January  22,  2014  -­‐  June  11,  2014  (Final  Concert  Date  TBA)      Cost:  $125  for  the  term      To  register,  contact  Musical  Director,  Anne  Marie  Murphy  at:  [email protected]      13.    CONSUME  by  Allison  Green  opens  at  Charlotte  Glencross  Gallery  Jan  24      The  Charlotte  Street  Arts  Centre  presents  CONSUME  by  Fredericton-­‐based  artist,  Allison  Green,  a  solo  exhibition  of  mixed  media  portraits  discussing  the  power  of  vice  to  mould  identity.    Consume  opens  in  the  Charlotte  Glencross  Gallery  on  Friday  January  24  from  5:30-­‐7pm  and  runs  until  March  3,  2014.      Green  describes  the  concept  behind  the  exhibition  by  explaining  that,  “In  pursuit  of  our  wants,  we  undercut  our  needs.  Our  identities  and  motivations  are  hijacked  for  one  goal:  to  consume.”    About  the  works,  she  describes,  “Each  piece  is  a  portrait  of  an  individual  with  a  past  or  present  addiction.  They  are  constructed  entirely  of  objects  related  to  that  particular  vice.    I’ve  worn  all  these  faces  too.  They  are  not  hard  to  find…  Addiction  comes  for  each  of  us:  the  TV  watcher,  the  shopper,  the  compulsive  eater.  It  is  a  thing  inside.”      The  found  object  portraits  in  Consume  are  a  departure  from  Allison  Green’s  usual  textile-­‐based  work.  Green’s  art  practice  has  incorporated  a  number  of  technical  approaches,  such  as  free  motion  machine  quilting  (stitch  drawing),  silk  painting,  felting,  drawing  and  more,  in  the  production  of  wearable  art,  textile  objects,  illustrations  and  sculpture.    As  well,  she  recently  completed  an  internship  at  Sculpture  Saint  John  that  gave  her  an  opportunity  to  work  with  granite,  fuelling  a  passion  for  merging  textile,  stone  and  the  natural  world.      Green  holds  a  diploma  in  Fashion:  Textile  Design  from  the  New  Brunswick  College  of  Craft  and  Design  and  is  currently  continuing  at  NBCCD  in  the  Graduate  Studies  certificate  program.    Her  notable  accomplishments  as  a  student  include  the  Governor  General’s  Academic  Medal,  the  Duffie-­‐Crowell  Award,  the  Nel  Oudemans  Scholarship  and  a  multitude  of  other  scholarships  and  awards  recognizing  her  academic  achievements.    Green  has  shown  her  work  in  group  exhibitions  throughout  the  Atlantic  provinces.  Consume  is  her  first  solo  exhibition.      The  Charlotte  Street  Arts  Centre  opens  the  doors  of  creative  expression  to  all.    Admission  to  the  Charlotte  Glencross  Gallery  is  always  free,  and  all  are  welcome  to  join  us  for  the  opening  reception  on  January  24,  beginning  at  5:30pm.    14.    Coming  up  at  the  Fredericton  Playhouse    January  24,  7:30pm  Spotlight  Series  presents  Late  Nite  Catechism:  Summer  School  Sister  knows  you  haven’t  learned  your  lesson,  and  she’s  returning  for  some  remedial  summer  school.  Back  by  popular  demand,  Summer  School  marks  the  4th  installment  of  the  hilarious  Late  Nite  Catechism  series  to  grace  the  Playhouse  stage.  Sister  will  discuss  summertime  classics  like  baseball,  summer  movie  blockbusters,  the  latest  trashy  summer  reading,  staycations  on  a  budget  versus  vacation  if  you  live  in  the  rectory,  and  the  best  way  to  make  use  of  your  summer  season.  This  is  a  class  you  do  not  want  to  miss! 8.    Carole  Forbes  Learn  to  Draw  and  Paint  Workshop  Feb  2    One  Day  workshop-­‐-­‐Learn  to  Draw  and  Paint  with  Ink  and  Inktense  using  the  Carole  Forbes  Technique  Sunday  February  2  Time:  10-­‐4  Where:  787  Union  Street  Cost:  $50  supplies  included  Please  contact  Carole  at  206.4492  |  email  [email protected]  |  www.caroleforbes.com        Auditions  |  Call  for  Submissions  &  Awards    1.    Emerging  artists  wanted  for  Captivate  at  Capital  Theatre  in  Moncton    The  Capitol  Theatre  is  pleased  to  announce  the  beginning  of  a  new  project  for  emerging  artists  in  both  English  and  French  entitled  Captivate.    Emerging  artists  are  asked  to  submit  their  name  for  an  opportunity  to  participate  in  this  new  project.  Using  an  ‘incubator’  style  approach,  the  creative  process  in  various  arts  disciplines  will  be  explored  as  part  of  an  artists’  collective.  The  Creation  Group  will  be  comprised  of  roughly  9-­‐10  members  who  are  presently  emerging  artists  with  multidisciplinary  backgrounds  who  will  work  once  a  week  for  three  or  four  months  with  no  set  goal  other  than  to  produce  a  bilingual  presentation.  The  focus  will  be  on  process  and  artistic  incubation.  The  group  will  have  access  to  facilitation  by  the  Capitol  Theatre  personnel  (professional  support,  space  and  technicians).    The  group  will  work  Tuesdays  from  6-­‐10pm  beginning  January  28  until  the  beginning  of  May.    It  is  imperative  that  all  members  are  able  to  fully  commit  to  be  present  at  all  sessions.  Please  do  not  submit  if  you  are  unable  to  commit  to  the  time  required.  Please  note  that  this  opportunity  to  collaborate  with  other  emerging  artists  does  not  have  a  fee,  but  is  also  non-­‐paying.    Please  submit  to  the  Capitol  Theatre,  attention  of  Tim  Borlase,  Lynne  Surette  or  Marshall  Button  if  you:  

• Are  available  every  Tuesday  from  6-­‐10pm  beginning  January  28  until  May  6,  2014;  • Self-­‐identify  as  an  emerging  artist;  • Are  interested  and  able  to  work  in  various  aspects  of  the  theatrical  process  (ie:  directing,  acting,  writing,  stage  managing,  design  

etc.);  • Work  well  with  others,  as  an  ensemble,  and  are  respectful  of  the  diversity  of  others  and  are  willing  to  work  co-­‐lingually  (English
