ARTS THREAD UNIVERSITY & COLLEGE CREATIVE CAREER WORKSHOPS

OVERVIEW

Bridging the gap between education and the start of a creative career, ARTS THREAD offers workshop packages to UK-based universities and colleges.

Our workshops teach the students how to prepare for the world outside when they leave education and give them the tools to develop and plan their career.

Our bespoke service will appeal to both those wishing to find full-time employment and those wishing to create their own businesses.

Strategically planned to give the students time to reflect and act on the information, the package is modular-based and can be scaled up to meet the university or college’s requirements.

BEN TALLON

Ben Tallon is an illustrator, art-director and author of Champagne and Wax Crayons: Riding the Madness of the Creative Industries. His contemporary, organic creative style is synonymous with clients including Channel 4, The Guardian, The Premier League and World Wrestling Entertainment.

Since graduating from the University of Central Lancashire with a degree in illustration, Ben has taken his core skill of image making and built an immediately recognisable brand. He has used that identity to branch out from editorial illustrating, to work in television, film, art-direction, set design, writing and speaking on the visual communication industry.

He released his critically acclaimed debut book in May 2015, named 5th in Creative Bloq's 'top 10 Graphic Design books of 2015.' The book is a brutally honest account of his journey from childhood passion of drawing to a professional career in the arts. Ben also hosts and produces the Arrest All Mimics visual arts podcast with his agency, Illustration Ltd.

DAN GOODE

Dan is a painter, a trained ceramicist, a writer and a trained – and still working – actor, so he understands keenly the life of the creative and the artist and how tough it is to manage a business.

Dan is Chief Seeker for online gallery Home of Artisans and prior to this, was chief talent scout for SeekAndAdore.com (voted by The Guardian as the No.1 talent spotter). Dan has also been supporting the designer and designer-making communities by giving talks about all aspects of selling online to Craft Northern Ireland, The Design Trust, Derry/Londonderry Council, UKHandmade, Design Factory, Design Your Career, UK Craft Guilds and also at the V&A with ARTS THREAD for the London Design Festival. Dan has contributed to New Designers for the past two years under the auspices of the Design Trust and this year also with ARTS THREAD and most recently helped choose the shortlist for this year’s Hot House scheme from the UK’s Craft Council.

Dan’s talks have become a major factor in his career, helping students embarking on a creative life to get the most out of the internet and the messages they convey to customers and the wider world.
