with such revered artists as Luna, Amorsolo, andZbel. Other popular artists include Hugo C.Yunzn reflected an earthy style that touches onindigenous Malay culture in pieces such as Early

Also in the southern part of thehilippines, there is another dance calledingkil using long bamboo poles found in
inikling; however, it is primarily a dancehowing off lavish Muslim royalty. In this dance,here are four bamboo sticks arranged in a tic-
ac-toe pattern in which the dancers exploitvery position of these clashing sticks. Dancersan be found trying to avoid all 4 bambooticks all together in the middle. They can also

Tanaga is a type of Filipino poetry.
Kut-kut is an art technique used between the 15thand 18th centuries. The technique was a
combination of European and Oriental style andprocess mastered by indigenous tribes of Samarisland.
Past notable Filipino artists include Juan Luna,Fernando Amorsolo, Felix Hidalgo, and Rey PazContreras. Present-day Filipino artists featuringFilipino culture include Anita Magsaysay-Ho, DanielCoquilla, Ang Kiukok, and Santiago Bose. The Artsor Paintings by Zbel, Amorsolo and many morecould be seen in most of the art museums in thePhilippines. Zobel's paintings can be seen in theAyala museum.

It wasn't until recently that traditional
Philippine music began picking up inpopularity after being exclusively
restricted to ethnic minorities for quitesome time. With Western influence intheir music, it is definitely not
surprising to find that many Filipinobands all over Southeast Asia is wellknown for their ability to performmusic from the west.

Nonetheless, more and more localmusicians are embarking on the journey of
rediscovering their cultural heritage. With thereturn of the use of traditional instruments suchas bamboo flutes, wooden drums and gongs,the Filipinos are slowly bringing old melodies
back to life. Apart from that, Philippine folksongs in the original Tagalog have also made acomeback after Freddie Aguilar, the popularsocial critic sang Bayan Ko (My Country). This
song eventually became an anthem of Marcos'rivals during the revolution of 1986.

SCULPTURE
Filipino sculptors came to be known inthe middle of the 19th century. ClassicalPhilippine sculpture reached its peak in theworks of Guillermo Tolentino (1890-1976).His best known masterpiece isthe Bonifacio Monument, which is a
group sculpture composed of numerousfigures massed around a central obelisk.
The principal figure is Andres Bonifacio,leader of the revolution against Spain in
1896. Behind him stands Emilio Jacinto, thebrains of the Katipunan. The BonifacioMonumen t - completed in 1933 -- markedthe apex of Tolentino's career.

The Sarimanok is a legendarybird of the Maranao people whooriginate from Mindanao, a major
island in the Philippines. It comesfrom the words "sari" and"manok." "Sari" means cloth or
garment, which is generally ofassorted colors. Mank, whichmakes up part of its name, is a
Philippine word for chicken.
