(September 6-9). Join Birmingham’s best musical theatre talent as they perform selections from some of the best of shows from the past decade produced on the stage of the Virginia Samford Theatre.

The Color Purple at RMTC Cabaret Theatre (September 27-Octo-ber 14). A soul-stirring musical based on the classic Pulitzer Prize-winning novel by Alice Walker and the moving film by Steven Spielberg. It is the unforgettable and inspiring story of a woman named Celie, who finds her unique voice in the world. $30-$35. Thursday- Saturday, 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, 2 p.m.

Anthony Bourdain: Guts and Glory at Alys Robinson Stephens Per-forming Arts Center (November 1). The internationally renowned chef, author (Kitchen Confidential), and television host will visit the Magic City for one night only, Thursday, November 1. Bourdain will spend the eve-ning sharing candid, often hysterical insights about his life’s work and trav-els, including an open question and answer session with the audience. Broadway in Birmingham presents Mannheim Steamroller Christ-mas By Chip Davis (November 28) and West Side Story (November 30 - December 2) both at BJCC Concert Hall.

visual Art and CultureNorman Rockwell’s America at Birmingham Museum of Art (Sep-

tember 16-January 6). This fall, the Birmingham Museum of Art will host Norman Rockwell’s America, an in-depth look at the life and work of America’s favorite illustrator. Rockwell’s six-decade career coincided with one of the most eventful periods in American history, spanning four wars, the Great Depression, the space race, and the Civil Rights Movement, all vividly depicted in his work. The exhibition includes 52 original paintings and drawings, and all 323 Saturday Evening Post covers Rockwell created between 1916 and 1963.

49th Annual Bluff Park Art Show at Bluff Park Community Center. Always on the first Saturday in October, the show draws more than 140 artists from across the country to exhibit and sell their art. 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. Free.

Fiesta 2012- A Hispanic Culture Festival at Linn Park (October 13) This year will be Fiesta’s 10th anniversary celebration of Hispanic culture in Birmingham. Adults: $5; Under 12: Free. Noon to 7 p.m.

From art to music to festivals, hoover has put great emphasis on the arts as a great addition to the city’s wonderful quality of life. The prestigious bluff Park Art Show is held each year on the first Saturday in October. The show began as a fund raising event first held in 1963, and has grown to include over 125 artists. As it enters its 10th year, The Virginia Samford Theatre is offering something new—a five-show subscription season of shows produced by the VST. The five shows on the VST subscription season are a diverse blend of comedy and drama: “Driving Miss Daisy” (Oct. 11-21). Alfred uhry’s comedy-drama about the relationship of an elderly Southern Jewish woman and her African-American chauffeur from 1948 to 1973.“A Christmas Memory: The Musical” (dec. 13-23). Adapted from Truman Capote’s short story set in a small Southern town in the 1930s. Story “follows the comic adventures of two misfit cousins who make the most of what may be their last holiday together.”“9 to 5” (Jan. 24 - Feb. 10, 2013). The Alabama premiere of the musical based on the movie about three women who decide to seek revenge on a terrible boss. Kristi Tingle higginbotham, Jan d. hunter and emily herring will star. “Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf?” (march 7-17, 2013). edward Albee’s classic drama about george and martha, who invite a younger couple over, only to drink heavily and engage in relentless, scathing verbal and sometimes physical abuse. “Annie Get Your Gun” (June 20-July 7, 2013). The Irving berlin musical about sharpshooter Annie Oakley.
