Objective Students will learn the importance of

showing respect and will be able to recognize feelings associated with receiving respect and also those feelings associated with disrespect. Students will demonstrate feelings of respect by creating their own ducklings and placing them in our classroom “Respect Pond.”

Materials Needed A copy of The Ugly Duckling Paper and Pencils Card Stock (different colors) Scissors Glue Different colored feathers Large Piece of Light Blue Construction paper (or

Poster board) Duck shaped Template Markers Pictures of Real Ducks

as being bullied? Why? What are feelings that are evoked by

being respected?

Procedure Read The Ugly Duckling Talk about respect with students, list feelings

evoked by respect Have students watch video clip Present real pictures of Ducks to students. Have students create their own duckling using

cardstock and colored feathers. Have students place ducks in “Respect Pond” Add grass and Cat Tails to pond with respectful

words written on them.
