  • 1. The Art of Nonfiction by Ayn RandThree questions answer these questions in complete sentences What do I want to write about? What do I want to say about the subject? What is the element of novelty in my theme? You have to identify, on paper and in objective terms, what type of audience you are addressing.Write a brief outline in complete sentences. It is better to over-explain than to under-explain. An outline 1.introduction 2.definition1.example in theory 3.abstract conceptualization/guts1.example in practice 4.recommendationSample Outline: America's Persecuted Minority Big Business (in Capitalism: The Unknown Ideal)Subject: Antitrust Theme: The moral and political evil of antitrustIntroduction Convey the moral-psychological mood and meaning of dictatorship. Businessmen as representatives of freedom.Decide in your outline where you want to place your potential quotations and what they are. Maybe you can color code your quotes for ease of placement.Do not let your outline show in your writing; remove the scaffold and let the building show! There is nothing wrong with making mistakes. One needs to correct the mistakes, though!Roadblocks while writing are common and should not be taken to heart. Keep working!Writing is not predictable. One cannot assume how many words/paragraphs per minute someone will right. Cf standardized tests!Do not envy so-called good, writers; practice logical writing; blind faith is not good enoughWrite in sequences. If you can, write the beginning of the next sequence before you end for the day.Do not memorize your draft. Put at least twelve hours between your writing and your reading what you have written.Ask yourself and your writing, how can I improve this writing. Edit in layers shallow to deepOnly use humor when you know your audience 100%Show; don't tellTaking a step back and looking at the abstract of an idea is the only way to learn; do not get bound up in concretesRemember to always be on the lookout for more knowledge, more wisdom, more learning endeavors; there is always something to learn; things/people without motion are dead
