Week 12 – Rhythm and Displacement
Last week we looked at Augmenting and Diminishing Rhythms.
This week we will look at altering Rhythms more drastically to create a greater change from the original composition.
Rhythm
Displacement is the process of taking a melody and moving it to a different beat.
For example:
In the following example I have moved the melody of Come As You Are to the second beat in the bar when it repeats….
Displacement
That example was a simple was of moving a melody, but you could make a more complex version.
If you Diminished the melody to half lengths (making the first note a quaver) and then moved it to the off-beat it would have a more syncopated feel.
