Cano-Abrew was driving a 2005 Chevrolet pickup eastbound on I-76 when it went out of control on ice and snow near milepost 141. The pickup went off the right side of the road broadside, with the left side leading, where it rolled onto its left side. The pickup and trailer were separated when they went off the road. No injuries were reported. •The patrol also reported several other storm-related assistance calls throughout the area due to hazardous conditions. Sterling Police Department Jan. 5 •At 2:20 p.m., three vehicles collided at the intersection of Hays Avenue and Platte Street. James Atwood, 45, of Akron, was driving a 2000 Ford F150 pickup truck stopped southbound on Hays Avenue at the stop sign with Platte Street as Rene Trujillo, 43, of Sterling, was driving a 1991 Cadillac Deville east on Platte Street and Stacey Erickson, 46, of Iliff, was driving a 2001 Chevrolet Tahoe northbound at the intersection of Hays Avenue and Platte Street. Atwood attempted to cross the intersection when Trujillo’s Cadillac and Atwood’s pickup collided. Atwood’s pickup then collided with the left front of Erickson’s Tahoe. Trujillo’s Cadillac sustained extreme left front damage, Atwood’s pickup sustained moderate front and right side damage and Erickson’s Tahoe sustained slight left front damage. No injuries were reported. Jan. 3 •Joseph Roy Gandee, 22, was arrested in the 1100 block of Platte Street at 12:05 a.m. on a Colorado Department of Corrections escape warrant. •Normaelia Galvan Gandee, 28, of Sterling, was arrested at 12:18 a.m. in the 1100 block of Platte Street on charges of Possession of a Schedule 1 or 2 Controlled Substance and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. •Michael Scott Jelle, 32, was arrested at 11:07 p.m. in the 300 block of South Third Street on a charge of Third Degree Assault. Jan. 2 •Jason Thomas Crisp, 40, of Sterling, was arrested in the 200 block of North Second Street at 10:13 a.m. on charges of Criminal Mischief and Domestic Violence. Jan. 1 •George Lincoln Wells, 24, of Sterling, was arrested at North Second and Elm Streets at 9:44 p.m. on a Protection Order Violation. Dec. 31 •A 1999 Chevrolet pickup truck was reported stolen from the 2100 block of Leisure Lane between 8 a.m. Dec. 26 and 12:06 p.m. Dec. 31. •Miriam Andrade, 18, of Sterling, was issued a municipal summons in the 1500 block of West Main Street at 12:52 p.m. for Theft. Dec. 30 •John Walter Guhl, 30, of Sterling, was arrested at 2:33 p.m. in the 1800 block of Fillmore Street on three warrants for Failure To Comply with a total bond of $14,500. •Juan Chairez-Hernandez, 46, of Sterling, was arrested in the 1700 block of Fillmore Street on charges of Failure To Appear, Possession of a Schedule 1 or 2 Controlled Substance and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. •Joshua Daniel Bowers, 25, of Sterling, was arrested in the 100 block of North 12 th Avenue on charges of Failure To Appear and a Logan County Sheriff’s Office warrant. •Dawn Marie Scarpino, 41, of Padroni, was arrested in the 100 block of North Division Avenue on an Aurora Police warrant for Failure To Appear with a $1,000 bond. Dec. 25 •Two people were injured and two vehicles sustained moderate damage in a collision near State Street and North Fourth Avenue at 1:12 a.m. Maria Herrera, 36, of Sterling, was driving a 2002 Saturn SL1 sedan on southbound North Fourth Avenue and made a wide right turn onto the 400 block of State Street as Sharday Washington, 27, of Sterling, was driving a 2004 Buick Rendezvous eastbound in the 400 block of State Street. The front of the two vehicles collided about 157 feet west of North Fourth Avenue. Both drivers refused medical attention. Dec. 19 •A Sterling man was injured when the van he was driving went out of control and collided with a guardrail at County Road 30 and North Seventh Avenue at 1:02 a.m. Charles Schell, 50, of Sterling, was driving a 2008 Dodge Caravan north on North Seventh Avenue approaching the intersection with Logan County Road 30. The van slid counterclockwise, crossing the southbound lane of North Seventh Avenue and colliding with a guardrail on the north Side of County Road 30. The van came to rest on the guardrail facing west. There was a dog in the van that was ejected through the back right window, landing in the ditch, but was uninjured. The van sustained extensive front and right side damage and the guardrail was destroyed. Logan County Sheriff’s Office Jan. 4 •At 4 p.m., deputies responded to a break-in on County Road 52 in Proctor. The front door’s glass had been smashed and several items taken. •At 1:30 p.m., deputies were dispatched to the 19000 block of Factory Street in response to domestic violence. Thomas Crose, 30, was arrested and booked into Logan County Jail on charges of Menacing, Domestic Violence and Harassment. Jan. 3 •Deputies responded to the 14000 block of Greenway Drive in response to a 911 hang-up call. It was determined to be accidental. •A deputy was dispatched to a motor vehicle accident at County Roads 30 and 37. •A deputy assisted in a civil standby at County Road 69 in Crook. Jan. 2 •Deputies responded to a driving complaint on Highway 6 between Atwood and Merino. •Deputies assisted in multiple vehicle accidents on I-76. •Deputies were dispatched to milepost 1 on Highway 113 for a single vehicle rollover accident. Jan. 1 •At 7 p.m., deputies were dispatched to County Road 69 in Crook regarding a domestic disturbance. Dec. 31 •Manuel Urbina-Guerra, 18, was arrested and booked into Logan County Jail on two Failure To Comply warrants. Sterling Fire Department Jan. 4 •At 12:38 a.m., units responded to an odor investigation in the 400 block of North Fourth Street. A strong burning odor was reported in the garage. No smoke or fire was found. Investigation did find a loose drive belt on one of the garage door openers. Jan. 3 •At 10:52 a.m., units responded to a reported vehicle fire near County Roads 38 and 25. Firefighters found a single vehicle fully engulfed in flames. The fire was extinguished and the property owner taken to his place of residence to return with a tractor to move the vehicle from the roadway to a pasture. •At 3:27 p.m., units responded with Merino Fire regarding a reported rollover accident in the westbound lanes of I-76. A series of non-injury accidents were found between milepost 115 and 110. •At 1:53 p.m., firefighters responded to a report of an accident on I-76 three to four miles east of Sterling. Jan. 1 •At 4:51 a.m., firefighters responded to a report of gasoline leaking on I-76 about eight miles west of Sterling. A small sedan ran over a shovel in the road, puncturing the gas tank. Two small puddles were found on the shoulder of the road and active leaking from the gas tank. A tow truck was called and the vehicle occupants were transported into Sterling.
