LESS COST MORE VALUE
OVERVIEW
Saving customers’ money on their landscape plans translates to more value created at
ValleyCrest. We’ve selected a couple of ValleyCrest’s top projects, including one of the most
important in company history, Arlington Heights Sports Park, to show you just how it can be done.
Through efficiencies of design-build, ValleyCrest proves this delivery method satisfies needs of a public agency by
eliminating change orders, minimizing project cost, speeding up timeline and increasing quality of life for residents.
The Arlington Heights Sports Park is a 38-acre sports and community lifestyle venue located in a
historic orange grove section of Riverside. The City of Riverside selected ValleyCrest as the integrated
design and prime contractor to deliver it’s first-ever design-build project at a contract amount of $13
million. ValleyCrest did not submit the lowest bid, but did present the best value with a great design
and the most appropriate team for the job. In less than 18 months, the park was envisioned, awarded,
designed, built and opened to the public – kudos to ValleyCrest’s design-build approach which
successfully took the project from an idea with a set budget to a new, highly sought-after public amenity.

WHY DESIGN-BUILD WORKS
The design-build method allowed the team to balance construction and logistical needs against
aesthetic appeal and budgetary constraints. The team was able to control costs, manage availability
of materials and balance an aggressive schedule – ultimately delivering a higher-quality product
at a price even lower than the original lowest bid. The true value is in the fact that all scope was
completed within 18 months, several years earlier than traditional delivery methods would have allowed.
