ARIESTM Release 5000.1.11.0 Installation Guide Welcome to Release 5000.1.11.0 of the ARIES™ reserves and economics evaluation software. This document includes information on the system requirements for installation, the installation steps, plus the utilities included for licensing needs and for working with Oracle databases.

Included in this installation package are the components for:

• ARIES System - Project Manager, Graphics, and Economics

• ARIES Modeler - User and Modeler

• ARIES RMS

• ARIES DecisionSuite™

During installation you can choose the Typical installation to add ARIES System, ARIES Modeler, ARIES RMS, and ARIES Decision Suite to your computer. Or you can choose the Custom installation and exclude the ARIES Modeler component. While you can install all these program modules, your use of particular products is controlled by the software licenses you have.

Before You Install Please refer to the System Requirements section before starting.

The following general requirements must be met before you can install and run the ARIES 5000.1.11.0 software:

• You must have Administrative Rights to the local computer that will run the install.

• Only install this software on Microsoft Windows® 7, Windows XP SP3, or Windows 8.

• Most recent versions of ARIES will be uninstalled automatically for you during this setup process. If your current ARIES version is very old, the Installation Wizard will alert you that you must manually uninstall it using the standard Microsoft uninstall process before you install the new release.

• For Windows XP, you must have Microsoft .NET 3.5 or later installed before ARIES can run. Microsoft .NET 3.5 is searched for during the installation. If it is absent, the setup program will inform you that you must go to the Microsoft website and download it. After you have installed it, rerun the ARIES setup program. For Windows 7, the needed .NET is already installed.

System Requirements The following minimum and recommended local computer system requirements for running the ARIES software are provided as general guidelines. They will vary depending on types of projects, project sizes, number of users, and network infrastructure and traffic.

Installation For standalone and local area network environments, the ARIES software is always installed on the local, end-user computer. The ARIES database(s) can be located on various servers on your network, but the application is installed as standalone on each computer. You must have Administrative Rights to the local computer to perform the installation.

The instructions for standalone installation are presented first. Guidelines for local area network installations by your network administrators are presented later, following the section on software licensing.

For wide area network environments, such as Citrix, the installations are custom and must be implemented and supported by your company network administrators or the Landmark Consulting Services group.

The majority of installations are based on files that you have downloaded from the Landmark Software Manager (LSM) web site. Alternatively, you could have requested through the LSM that these files be provided to you on a DVD. The installation steps for these approaches are similar.

Before starting the installation, make sure to close all applications.

Download Files from the Landmark Software Manager The majority of customers will download the installation files from the Landmark Software Manager. It is a web-based application which enables authorized contacts from your company to easily obtain program releases, updates, and information.

1. Use your web browser to go to https://esd.halliburton.com/download/download.jsp#Download

2. On the Home page select the tab located immediately below the red Landmark Software Manager title.

3. Click the box on the Production Optimization discipline row to expand it to display the ARIES programs. You can also use the Advanced Filter.

4. Check mark the Release ARIES 5000.1.11 row and select the button on the right-hand part of the row to begin the download of the setup and installation files. Prior to downloading you can view the Release Notes by selecting the button. This Installation Guide is viewable by selecting the button.

5. The first screen you will see contains the download agreement. To continue with the download you must agree to the conditions.

6. The File Download dialog will appear. Select the Save button.

7. The Save as window will appear. Specify the location where you want to download the zip file and select the OK button. Note that this is not necessarily where the program will be installed later, but rather is where you will go to launch the Setup process, as described below.

8. Once the files have been downloaded click on the Close button to close the Download Complete dialog.

Copy Files from Optional ARIES DVD If you will use an optional release DVD to obtain the installation files, insert it in the DVD drive. Copy the ARIES5000.1.11.0Release.zip file to a folder on your computer. Note that this is not necessarily where the program will be installed later, but rather is where you will go to launch the Setup process, as described below.

Step 1 - Starting the InstallShield Setup Wizard You now have the ARIES5000.1.11.0Release.zip file located in a folder. Open this zip file and double click on the ARIES5000.1.11.0Release.exe file.to start the installation setup.

If you are installing on MS Windows 8 switch to the Desktop mode and install normally.

You will see a message window asking if you want to let the ARIES program as published by Halliburton make changes to this computer. Select Yes to continue with the installation. The setup portion of the installation process will then begin. You will see a dialog showing the progress of the extraction and copying of the needed files to a local temp folder.

In the next two steps the setup program checks for required Microsoft components on your computer. If you have these components you will not see these screens.

Step 2 – Checking for Microsoft Access Database Engine Drivers ARIES 5000.1.11 requires Microsoft Access 32-bit database engine drivers. These are needed to run database reports from Project Manager (but not for the run time reports from Economics) and to connect to or transport data to .accdb format databases.

You may already have these drivers if you have installed other Microsoft products, such as MS Office. The ARIES installation program checks for the presence of these drivers and, if they are not there, asks if you want it to install them.

Mark your choice and select the Next button. If you choose No, the ARIES installation will continue without them, but you will not be able to produce database reports or connect or transport to .accdb databases. If you choose Yes, the Microsoft driver installation program will begin.

Select the Next button to continue. The Microsoft software license agreement for these drivers will then appear.

You must accept this Microsoft agreement to proceed with the driver installation. Do so by marking the check box at the bottom of the dialog and selecting the Next button.

You next specify the location for installing these drivers.

The default path is shown. If needed, you can modify it directly here or browse to the location wanted. Select the Install button to begin this process.

The progress bar shows the status of the installation. When completed, the following dialog appears.

Select the OK button to return to the ARIES installation.

Step 3 – Checking Software Requirements InstallShield next checks that you have one of the supported operating systems and for other needed system components.

On Windows XP, ARIES 5000.1.11.0 will only run if you have installed Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 SP 1 or later. If you have not, a message will appear:

Select OK, which will end the ARIES installation. Landmark cannot provide this to you so you must go to the Microsoft web site to download .NET 3.5 SP1 and install it manually on this computer. You then rerun the ARIES install.

On Windows 7, the correct .NET Framework is already installed, so you will not see this message.

On Windows 8, you will see a similar warning message. You must exit the ARIES installation and install .NET 3.5 from the web. Follow these steps:

1. From the Start screen, right click your mouse and select the All Apps icon at the lower right.

2. From the list of applications select Control Panel.

3. Select the Programs item. The screen below will appear (without the dialog).

4. Select the Turn Windows features on or off item under Programs and Features to bring up the dialog shown.

5. Mark the item .NET Framework 3.5 and select OK.

6. A dialog will appear asking if you want to download the needed file from the web. Reply Yes.

7. When this download process is complete, restart the ARIES installation.

Step 4 – The ARIES Installation When the InstallShield Wizard completes the setup checks above, it displays the following Welcome dialog, which is the beginning of the actual ARIES installation:

Select the Next button to proceed to the Landmark License Agreement step.

The InstallShield Wizard asks for your agreement to the Landmark software licensing terms. You cannot install the software unless you agree.

Select the I accept the terms in the license agreement option. Select the Next button to proceed to the Customer Information step of the wizard.

Step 5 - Customer Information This step will record your name and company.

Enter your Name and Organization, and select Next to proceed to the Destination Folder step of the wizard.

Step 6 - Destination Folder The Destination Folder dialog appears in this step of the InstallShield Wizard, showing the standard location for the installation.

If needed, select the Change button to change the target location of the installation. Select Next to proceed to the Setup Type step of the wizard.

Step 7 - Setup Type (Typical or Custom) In this setup step you select the type of setup (Typical or Custom) you want.

The two options are:

1. Typical – Select this option to install all ARIES software components including ARIES Modeler. Select Next to proceed to the next step in a Typical Installation. Components will be installed in the C:\Landmark\ARIES folder.

2. Custom - Select this option to exclude Modeler from the installation or to specify a different destination for the installation. The only reason to exclude Modeler is to save a small amount of disk space. Select Next to proceed to the component selection box, as described later under Custom Installation.

Your next steps depend on which setup type you select.

Typical Step 8 – Ready to Install the Program If you selected the Typical option above, the Ready to Install the Program dialog appears.

Select Install to begin installing the ARIES software, or select Back to review prior settings and make any changes as necessary.

Typical Step 9 – Installing Progress and Completed

After the Install button is selected in the previous step, the Installing ARIES 5000.1.11.0 screen will appear, where you can see the progress of the installation.

When the installation is finished, the InstallShield Wizard Completed dialog box appears:

Select Finish to exit the ARIES install.

If your software licenses are up to date, you can now launch the ARIES software through the Desktop shortcuts or the Programs Menu.

Custom Step 8 - Custom Setup If you selected the Custom option on the Install Type screen, this dialog appears indicating the “typical” settings. Here you change the features (components) to be installed or change the destination folder.

Two feature sets are shown, ARIES and ARIES Modeler, both of which are set to be installed. As you highlight either one, its description and disk space requirement appear in the Feature Description box at right. You can select the Space button to show the available disk space on your drives.

The destination folder is shown below the box. To change it, select the Change button at the bottom right and enter the destination path and folder name.

To exclude the ARIES Modeler feature you click the down arrow in the small box next to its name.

This displays several options:

• To install this feature select the first option.

• ARIES does not use sub-features so this second option does not apply.

• To not install this feature select the third option.

After you have configured the custom features to be installed, select the Next > button. The Ready to Install the Program dialog will appear.

Custom Step 9 - Ready to Install the Program After you have configured any custom features to be installed in the previous step the following dialog appears.

Select the Install button to begin installing the ARIES software components, or select the < Back button to review the previous dialogs and change any settings as necessary.

Custom Step 10 – Installing Progress and Completed After the Install button is selected in the previous step, the Installing ARIES 5000.1.11.0 screen will appear, where you can see the progress of the installation.

When the installation is finished, the InstallShield Wizard Completed dialog box appears:

Select Finish to exit the ARIES install.

If your software licenses are up to date, you can now launch the ARIES software through the Desktop shortcuts or the Programs Menu.

ARIES Product Licensing The ARIES software and its major components require Flexera Software FlexNet PublisherTM, version 11.6 or later licenses to run. These licenses are supplied to you by Landmark in the form of a license file or, for special purposes, a USB bitlock. The license file can exist on the local computer or on a network.

Current Users If you have been running ARIES version 5000.0.2 or later, you do not need to get a new license file or bitlock to run version 5000.1.11.

If you have been running an older ARIES version, you must request a new license file or bitlock from Landmark. If the version of ARIES you have been running is prior to 5000.0.0 you will also need to download and install the current License Application Manager, described below.

New Users You must both install the current License Application Manager, as described below, and request your new ARIES license(s) from Landmark.

Requesting an ARIES License New users, and current users with licenses for ARIES versions prior to 5000.0.2, need new licenses. There are several methods for you to request one.

1. Go to the Landmark Support Portal web site at http://css.lgc.com/CustomerSupport/CustomerSupportHome.jsp and select the License Management tab from the menu bar at the top. A form appears on which you will provide the details of your license request. Click the Submit button when you have finished the form.

2. You can also access the license request form from within LSM using the Request Licenses option in the left-hand column.

3. Email the Landmark license administration group with your request at [email protected].

4. Telephone the Landmark license administration group at either: Houston: 713.839.2200, option 6, London/Leatherhead: 44.1372.868686, option 6.

Installing License Application Manager The process of managing product licenses is done by the Landmark License Application Manager (LAM) software and other tools installed on your computer.

To manage your license files you must have at least the 5000.0.0 version of the Landmark License Application Manager. If you have been running ARIES release 5000.0.0 or later, you already have a suitable version of LAM.

You can download the latest version of LAM and the installation instructions from the Discipline - Tools section of the Available Downloads in LSM. Click the check box to expand this option. Check mark the row you want and select the icon on the row. You can also view or download instructions by selecting the icon on the row.

If you have requested DVD media you will have a separate DVD that is specific for the LAM, complete with instructions.

Installing on a Network There are many possible installation configurations and methods that could be used for deploying ARIES on a local area network. The best method for your particular situation depends upon the number of users and your network environment.

The general system requirements and other conditions discussed earlier for standalone installations apply.

For a small network the most straightforward approach is to download, install, and license ARIES independently on each workstation. To do this follow the steps described earlier under Typical or Custom Installation.

For a larger network, you may want to create an Application Distribution Site and use Microsoft SMS or other tools to push the installation to the workstations. Your network administrators can use the ARIES5000.1.11.0Release.exe file contained in the zip file you downloaded from LSM as the basis for this. You specified the location for this file earlier in the download process.

Launch the system Run dialog and type ARIES5000.1.11.0Release /a to extract the files and create a server image in the network location you specify. The first dialog appears:

Select the Change button to enter the network location for the set of server image files. Select Install to begin copying the files.

When the process is complete, the following dialog appears:

Select the Finish button. You will have the following folders containing the files:

Utilities Provided Several utility programs are provided to help you set up and use ARIES. Some of these tools are automatically copied to the ARIES\Programs folder during the installation process.

ARIES Oracle Classic Database Creation Tool Additionally, a special utility is installed into the ARIES\Utilities\Oracle Scripts folder for an Oracle DBA to use to create a new, empty, ARIES Classic database. This tool is provided in two versions, one for 32-bit

and one for 64-bit Oracle clients. The DBA accesses the appropriate version of this tool by double clicking its name in the folder.

The following dialog will appear:

Enter the requested names and passwords and select the Create button to start the process. To send the database creation log to a file, select the Save Log to File button and name the desired file.

The result will be an empty version of the standard sample ARIES Classic database.

Uninstalling Should you need to remove ARIES from your computer, you can use the standard Windows® uninstall functions in Control Panel. The steps are similar for Windows® 7, Windows XP, and Windows 8. All applications should be closed before beginning this process.

The steps are described below.

From the Windows Start button open Control Panel and select Add/Remove Programs for Windows XP or Uninstall Programs and Features for Windows 7.

Be sure the View installed updates option is set.

Highlight the ARIES program in the list. Note that the illustration shows ARIES 5000.1.10.0, but you would see whatever version you currently have installed.

Above the list next to the Organize label are buttons for Uninstall, Change, and Repair. The Change button will take you to further options to modify your existing installation by adding or removing specific ARIES features. The Repair button will re-install the ARIES software while repairing any files or registry entries that may be missing or damaged.

Select the Uninstall button to start the uninstall process. The Add/Remove Programs confirmation dialog box will appear:

Select Yes to confirm that you want to remove ARIES from your computer. Respond Yes to the subsequent prompt about allowing ARIES to modify files on this computer. A progress bar will appear as the ARIES software is removed:

Files Left Behind Note that when the uninstall process is complete, many files and folders will have been removed. However, any files or folders that you created, modified, or used subsequent to the original installation will remain, such as the \ARIES\DB and \ARIES\Data folders and files in them.

Additionally, the Microsoft Installer .msi files that were used for the installation of the prior ARIES versions will remain on:

C:\Windows\Downloaded Installations\Landmark\ARIES\nnnn.n.n.n

For very old ARIES versions the .msi files will remain on:

C:\Windows\Downloaded Installations\GGX\ARIES\nnnn.n.n.n
