The i-Pad used as a language teacher toolbox
Educational i-Pad apps for the Elementary School Spanish Teacher
Babblemania- This app teaches young learners the fruits and vegetables in Spanish. Once they have learned them they will make a smoothie and a pot of soup. Repetition reinforces the vocabulary and it’s very entertaining for the children.

Animals, colors, numbers Niños bilingue- This app teaches young learners the animals, colors and numbers. It presents the vocabulary in English and in Spanish providing repetition. The children enjoy choosing and dragging the correct animals.
ABC Practice- Recognizing the letters in spanish
Igualar letras- A letter matching game. The student hears the letter and needs to uncover the cards until all letters are matched. Each section of the game a cute squirrel “takes off,” at the end many balloons go up with the letters written on them. Students can review the alphabet before playing the game.
Spelling words in Spanish
Leo Spanish spelling- A spelling game. The student hears a letter and needs to choose and drag the correct letter (one at a time) until he has un-jumbled the letters to form a word. Once the student has spelled a word, he gets to “color” a section of the picture of a clown until he has spelled out all the words and colored the entire face of the clown.
Practice correct pronunciation in Spanish and record your voice Learn Spanish for Kids – Ottercall español - A pronunciation
game. The student hears a word in Spanish and needs to record his voice saying the word correctly. They are graded correct/incorrect. While this is precious and the students love that they can record their voice, it is very sensitive and sometimes the student is graded incorrect, while he might be correct. Also, some words are in “Spanglish” so make sure you review the vocab. first. If offers many themes: animals, school, beach, bedroom, breakfast, clothing, fast food, fruits, holiday, music, kitchen, appliances, seasons, sports, tools, vehicles, veggies, weather.
Fun educational games in multiple languages- Higher elementary level and above Learn Spanish – Mind Snacks- Provides a good foundation
and the repetition helps make the vocab “stick.” I would recommend it to upper elementary students and above. Some of the games speed up as you get to the more advanced stages, therefore they are too challenging for lower elementary students. Reviews a wide range of vocabulary. Provides incentives with points and tokens. Allows you to share results on facebook. Available in multiple languages.
