ARE YOU AN ARTIST?Are you ready for more advanced art training? Ryman Arts offers a free advanced studio art program that is designed to help you achieve your dreams by strengthening your art skills and preparing you for college and a career in art.
Courses:Ryman Arts offers three sequential courses: Foundation Drawing, Intermediate Drawing & Painting, and Advanced Painting. All students start with Foundation Drawing and may reapply for the following levels upon the completion of each semester Foundation Drawing Class sponsored by DreamWorks Animation focuses on drawing technique and composition, and includes an introduction to figure drawing.
Locations:Saturdays at California State University, Fullerton, or on Sundays at Otis College of Art & Design, in Los Angeles.
Class times:9:00 am to 12:30 pm or 1:00 pm to 4:30 pm.
Cost:All classes are free of charge. If selected, you will receive a full scholarship that covers the cost of instruction, art supplies, and field trips. Public transportation reimbursement is available.
Eligibility:Application to the program is open to all students enrolled in high school grades 9 – 12.
The Ryman Arts application process is competitive, with an acceptance rate around 50%. A committee reviews all applications, scoring them on multiple criteria (primarily evidence of skill and motivation). Ryman Arts strives to create a diverse class of students from schools throughout Southern California.

If Accepted, You Will…• Learn foundation drawing and painting skills
in rigorous classes to develop your talent• Work with professional teaching artists in
small classes with other serious art students• Build your portfolio for college applications
and exhibit your work publicly• Explore options for a life in the arts through
discussions with guest artists, museum field trips, and college planning workshops
2018 APPLICATION
1 Fill out application completely below or online: rymanarts.org
2 Receive a nomination from a teacher. Ask him or her to complete the recommendation section below.
3 Send in two representational pencil drawings done from observation, on paper between 8.5” x 11” and 18” x 24”. Draw from what you see in real life. Your subject might include a landscape, portrait, or objects from daily life. Do not copy from a photograph or a screen. Do not submit cartoons or other artwork done from imagination.
4 Write a 1-page essay outlining your reasons for applying to the program and how you intend to benefit from the experience. You may write about your future goals as an artist, describe your previous art education, if any, and any obstacles you have overcome in pursuing your work as an artist.
5 Submit your application form by mail or online, drawing submissions must be dropped off at our offices or mailed to: 1933 S. Broadway, 11th Floor, Suite 1138, Los Angeles, CA 90007.
