From the UK to the US, Ireland to South Africa, Europe to ourlocal artists in Dalston, we’ve travelled the globe to discover thosewriters that rarely find a home in London butmore than deserveto do so. Emerging talent is given the opportunity to work withestablished artists, and Arcola continues its tradition of givingaudiences the opportunity for a close encounter with some ofthe UK’s finest actors.
Alongside these professional productions there’s an opportunityfor all, of any age, to take their place on the Arcola stage througha growing range of participatory classes andworkshops, runningthroughout the week.
Finally, we’re consolidating our commitment to sustainability. Fromthe growing popularity of our monthly Green Sundays to innovativepartnerships with local groups and international businesses – Arcolacontinues to be a benchmark for developing art that works positivelywith the environment.
We hope you’ll join us this season and keep in touch as plans growto celebrate our 10th anniversary, coming soon.

‘If I worked in a petrol station, all it would take is onecigarette to blow everything sky high…But at home Idon’t even have gas. Where am I supposed to begin?’
Two illegal dock workers witness a woman drowning. Afraid of involvingthe police, they do not save her. Guilty or innocent?
A nocturnal city teamswith social rejects, lost and disaffected humanbeings: an undertaker; a blind pole dancer; an embittered philosopher;themother of a serial killer.
Loosely connected stories from the edge of societymysteriouslyinterweave to create a lyrical and darkly comic passion play for ourtimes. Disturbing, poignant but ultimately hopeful, Innocence asksunanswerable questions about conscience and compassion in adisfiguredworld.
Dea Loher is Germany’s leading andmost provocative playwright, noted for her original style and uncompromising picture ofcontemporary life. Internationally acclaimed director HelenaKaut-Howson brings this UK premiere to the Arcola stagewitha stellar ensemble cast.

A thrilling take on the run up to the Berlin Olympics in 1936, seenthrough the eyes of American journalistWilliam Shirer.
The stakes were high, the game played out on the world stage. Hitlercraved power and the German Jewswere under threat. America wasuneasy and the International Olympic Committee was dangerously outof touch….
It all rested on the few….. and the athletes, among them Jesse Owens.
If America had pulled out, wouldWWII have taken place? A grippingpiece of theatre with a cast of nine, playing out one of themostmomentous occasions in world history.
‘multi-faceted piece of drama…outstanding debut’Plays International
The evening concludes with an excerpt from Leni Riefenstahl’s filmOlympia and a discussion with Olympic Coach TomMcNab (authorof best-seller Flanagan’s Run).
