Celebrating the SeasonIt’s hard to believe, but we have arrived
at the 15th Anniversary of “Something Christmas”! What began as a small, single performance at Altadore Baptist Church in 2004 has become a popular holiday concert with three performances and over 1,000 people attending. Nothing brings us greater joy than sharing our love of music with our community!
We are grateful for the tremendous support and encouragement we’ve
received over the years.
Preparation for the music you’re about to enjoy has involved many hours of rehearsal, the support of an army of volunteers, and collaboration on a thousand details with our tech crew, production team, artistic and administrative teams, and the passionate engagement of our 250 singers. My thanks to all, and especially to Torri Airhart and Michelle Kotelko who have enthusiastically grabbed the baton to lead Up2Something and the Combined Choir this year!
And while we hope the music we perform today is memorable, the reality is that it is fleeting. Coming together to celebrate the season allows us the opportunity to share with you our belief that music can change lives. We’ve seen and experienced its power firsthand. We’re pleased to provide financial support to PREP’s Music Therapy program and invite you to help us bring the healing power of music to families in our community.
Above all, we hope we lift your spirits and warm your heart. Thank you for giving us the gift of your presence, your voice, and your support – whether for the first time, or over the last decade and a half. To you and yours, our best wishes for a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
Brian BowmanArtistic Director, ARC
Thank you for believing in the power of music!
The ARC Family is delighted, to once again come together and share the magic of voices in harmony, while raising awareness of the healing powers of music.
Music Therapy improves health and functional outcomes and we are pleased to support the wonderful Music Heals Charitable Foundation; a not-for-profit organization that raises money and awareness for music therapy programs across Canada. Music Heals tries to ensure that funds raised are distributed locally. ARC is pleased to support Calgary’s own PREP, a unique non-profit resource, where families can access therapy, family services, and educational supports for their child with Down syndrome from birth to 18 years of age. The music therapy that is offered within PREP’s Early Learning Program exposes children to music at an early age and leverages the power of songs and rhythm to reinforce speech, reading, fine motor, gross motor, and behavioural skills.
“Our hope is to continue exploring ways that PREP can utilize music therapy to enhance and enrich even more of our programs as we support kids with Down syndrome to reach their full potential.”
- Curtis Slater / Executive Director, The PREP Program
We kindly invite you to consider supporting our collaborative efforts to raise funds for Music Heals, who in turn financially supports projects such as the PREP Program.
A portion of proceeds from Something Christmas performances will be donated.

IN PURSUIT OF HAPPiNESS
Saturday, June 8 - 7:30pmSunday, June 9 - 2:30 & 7:30pmArts Commons, Martha Cohen Theatre
“If there’s one thing that can be said about happiness, it’s that it’s wholly and utterly subjective. What makes one person happy - picking flowers on a sunny day, perhaps - may make another person decidedly unhappy.”
- How Stuff Works -
ARC’s 17th season is a meandering journey that inescapably encounters disappointment on the path to success, but never loses hope along the way.
In a world that seems preoccupied with winning at any cost, where “fake news” is more common than “good news”, we’re summoning the positive forces in the universe and casting out all doubt as we relentlessly pursue what it truly means to be happy!
IN PURSUIT OF HAPPiNESS will cover the gamut of emotion and, in our own way, honor and celebrate the diversity and commonality of the human experience.
This is a show you will NOT want to miss.
Stay tuned for announcement of ticket sales in spring of 2019 at archoirs.org.
Did you hear? There is another opportunity to enjoy holiday tunes!
Join us for an evening of Christmas Caroling on December 12th from 7-9pm with our Something Lite choir to sing-a-long to some of your favorite songs of the season.
This is a free event and open to all. We look forward to seeing you there!
Take NoteWe Want To Hear You Sing!
At Something Lite we enjoy great music, friendship and fun.
Give us a try! No audition required.
