Please keep us in your prayers as we begin this two year term. I would also like to take this opportunity to thank our outgoing President, Flora Chioros for her love and dedication to the sister- hood. How I enjoyed seeing so many of you at the Clergy Laity in Nash- ville in July! The turnout of presvyteres and outpouring of sisterly love was inspiring. Our next national gathering will be the biennial retreat scheduled for October 5-8, 2007, in San Francisco, CA. Be sure to put this on your calendar for next year. It promises to be a wonderful event. I look forward to staying in touch with you on a regular basis through our newsletters and via email. Please do not hesitate to contact me or any of the other board members if we can help in any way. In Sisterly Love, Cynthia Paleologos Dear Sisters, Greetings in the name of the Lord! “If anyone desires to be first, he shall be last of all and servant of all.” With these words taken from the Gospel of St. Mark, it is with great humility and love that I assume the office and responsibilities of the President of the National Sisterhood of Presvyteres. Beyond even humility, service is active care and love for others. Beloved Presvyteres of our Greek Orthodox Archdiocese, I greet you with the love of our Lord and with the words of St. Paul to the Colossians, We always thank God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, when we pray for you, because we have heard of your faith in Christ Jesus and of the love which you have for all the saints, because of the hope laid up for you in heaven (Colossians 1:3-5). By the grace of God, the Holy Archdiocese after concluding the 38th Biennial Clergy Laity Congress, commences another ecclesiastical year dedicated to Christ’s presence and redeem- ing work in the world. For you, the National Sisterhood of Presvyteres, this presents the opportunity and necessity to encourage and actualize the powerful theme of the Congress, Sharing the Truth of the Gospel and the Love of Christ, in your lives and in all that you do collectively. I hope that you can reflect and consider how the truth of the Gospel and the love of Christ have influenced and impacted your lives as Presvyteres and how God is leading you to share this truth and love with one another. It is my prayer that you will grow together in your commitment to the teachings of Christ’s Holy Gospel, in your ability to com- prehend the truth of Jesus Christ, and to connect this insight to your precious role as Presvyteres of this blessed Church in America. May the abiding love of Jesus Christ guide you and illumine your hearts and minds as you faithfully serve Him in par- ishes, Holy Metropolises, and ministries of the Archdiocese. With my heartfelt appreciation for your dynamic example as living witnesses of the Gospel and my fervent prayers for your diakonia, I remain With paternal love in Christ, +ARCHBISHOP DEMETRIOS Archbishop of America from our president cynthia paleologos from his eminence

for the ice breaker – did so much to add to the loveliness of the afternoon. The gift bags were a work of love! Her Co-Chair, Olga Hountalas focused on the afternoon en-tertainment. The ice breaker was VERY well-done and everyone had a good time! What a great way to start out the week together! 2. Ginny Emroll of Day-ton, OH, Harriet Wilson of Lexington, KY, Eva Paul of Ann Arbor, MI and Kalliope Vaporis of Plymouth, MI baked many of the delicious goodies we were able to offer at the NSP meetings! 3. Stella Sfikas of Nashville who brought the hard candy to sweeten our daily gather-ings. This, along with her ef-forts to make sure our needs were met was GREATLY APPRECIATED. 4. Mary Christy of Mem-phis, TN who was a sounding board and the SOUTHERN LINK. Her love and support was invaluable!! She was a wonderful Master of Cer-

tolerable because of the other Pks that came to help. They were: Andrew Pavlakos, Nina Savas, Paul Petrogeorge, Constantine and Chrysanthe Pappas, Raphaela and Nicho-lia Patitsas, Katerina and Nicolea Rallis. In addition, the children were entertained by Presvytera Katherine Patitsas, Maria Palassis of Cincinnati, OH and Polly Maouris-Hillier, Associate Director of the St. Photios Shrine in St. Augus-tine, FL. It was such a special moment when the children sang for His Eminence, Arch-bishop Demetrios and in re-turn His Eminence taught the children a song and presented a beautiful cross to everyone in the room! I would like to also thank Cindy Paleologos, Jeannie Monos and Stephanie Pana-gos for all their input! It was truly an honor and privilege working with them.

emonies for the luncheon on Thursday afternoon and it went so smoothly because of her efforts. Our luncheon on Thursday was a lovely gathering of ap-proximately 140 presvyteres. Mr. and Mrs. Steve Yeonas generously underwrote the afternoon and we are so grateful. We were so blessed to have Presvytera Georgia Kofinas of Athens, Greece as our speaker (really she’s a Yankee but has been in Greece for a number of years). It was a wonderful finale to a wonderful week! The planning of the Clergy Childcare was easier said than done. Although PK sisters De-metria and Dianna Doukas, (the child caregivers for this year’s C/L), planned for the 17 that registered prior to C/L, by the end of the first day another 18 children were added. Overwhelming? Yes! But the job was made more If your parish would like

to sponsor an issue of our

quarterly newsletter please

contact your Metropolis

Representative. Your parish’s

support would be greatly

appreciated!

As the chairman for the NSP program at the 2006 C/L Nashville, I would like to take this opportunity to thank a number of people who helped to make the week so memorable. Although the actual commencement of the planning of the NSP program was delayed considerably, when the planning finally got going, there was no stopping. Mr. & Mrs. George Anderson of Nashville, chairmen for this year’s C/L as well as Tim Maniatis, C/L Conference Consultant, were so support-ive and invaluable in helping us in our planning. The Metropolis of Detroit (MOD) has not had the op-portunity to host a C/L since 1978. The Presvyteres of our Metropolis also had the task of planning from a distance. But we rose to the task and welcomed the challenge! We couldn’t pull it off without the help of the various MOD Presvyteres who cohesively came together to help. 1. Joan Bogdan – our chair

The NSP offers our heartfelt gratitude and appreciation to Mr. and Mrs. Stephen G. Yeonas and Mr. George D. Behrakis for their generousity in underwriting events for the Clergy and Presvyteres during the 38th Clergy Laity Congress.

National coordinator and will also represent the Metropo-lis of Denver. We now need volunteers from each of the remaining Metropolises. Metropolis Caregivers rep-resentatives may have more success in knowing which clergy families in their Me-tropolis are caregivers. They may personally reach out to these families, or they may ask me to do so. The intention is to reach out to all caregiver families, those caring for children, spouses, parents, or other family members. Hopefully, by enlarging the Caregivers Committee in this way, our outreach will be truly become an outreach! I am making an appeal to those of you who are caregiv-ers make yourself known! You may email me at home: [email protected]. I hope that in some way, the Caregivers Committee can be a support to you. Some of us are either caregivers at the present time or have been in the past. We know how important it is that caregiv-ers seek support from others. We care, and we want you to know that. I am also asking for per-sonal stories from caregivers who are willing to share infor-mation in the NSP Newsletter. Those of you who are care-givers can best convey what you are experiencing. Sharing your stories helps you and other caregivers. This is the essence of the support that is needed. I hope that some of you will be willing to do share your story with others.

Even the pk’s that came enjoyed themselves either in the pool or the playground. Thanks to all who brought food and themselves to join us! We even had a small birth-day celebration for Fr. Dimi-trios Moraitis. Some came from very far away like Fr. and Presvytera Nicholas Anctil. We are looking forward to our annual winter dinner and plan to have future events designed exclusively for the presvyteres.

Metropolis_of_DetroitMany thanks to Goldie Doukas. Your dedication and commitment these past two years made the NSP programs at the National Clergy Laity Conference in Nashville, Ten-nessee a huge success! Thanks for all your hard work—we couldn’t have done it without you! I would also like to thank Mary Christy, Olga Hounta-las, Joan Bogdan, Eva Paul, Harriet Wilson, and Kallopi Vaporis for their assistance in Nashville. Our meetings were well-attended with discus-sion topics ranging from silly to serious (which proves that presvyteres need to be able to laugh as well as cry!). The Presvytera Luncheon was “standing room only!” Our Metropolis sisterhood is planning several upcom-ing activities.

These include a Clergy Family Vasilopita (date and location TBA as of the printing of this newsletter) as well as a joint event with the Detroit Clergy Syndesmos in the spring. I hope that some of you will be willing to do share your story with others.

for the ice breaker – did so much to add to the loveliness of the afternoon.

Yes! But the job was made more If your parish would like

support would be greatly

appreciated!

ARCHDIOCESAN DISTRICT

On behalf of the entire executive board, thank you for placing your trust in us. Please keep us in your prayers as we begin this two year term. I would also like to take this opportunity to thank our outgoing President, Flora Chioros for her love and dedication to the sister-hood. How I enjoyed seeing so many of you at the Clergy Laity in Nash-ville in July! Please be sure to log on to our website to update your information if you are not receiving emails. I also urge you to contact your Metropolis representative and get involved with the sisterhood on a local level. Please do not hesitate to contact me or any of the other board members if we can help in any way.

In Sisterly Love, Cynthia Paleologos

Dear Sisters,Greetings in the name of the Lord!“If anyone desires to be first, he shall be last of all and servant of all.” With these words taken from the Gospel of St.

By the grace of God, the Holy Archdiocese after concluding the 38th Biennial Clergy Laity Congress, commences another ecclesiastical year dedicated to Christ’s presence and redeem-ing work in the world. It is my prayer that you will grow together in your commitment to the teachings of Christ’s Holy Gospel, in your ability to com-prehend the truth of Jesus Christ, and to connect this insight to your precious role as Presvyteres of this blessed Church in America. May the abiding love of Jesus Christ guide you and illumine your hearts and minds as you faithfully serve Him in par-ishes, Holy Metropolises, and ministries of the Archdiocese. With my heartfelt appreciation for your dynamic example as living witnesses of the Gospel and my fervent prayers for your diakonia, I remainWith paternal love in Christ,+ARCHBISHOP DEMETRIOSArchbishop of America
