What is a verb?
• Verbs show action in a sentence.
– I talk in class.
– He fishes.
– We sail.
– The students graduate.

Verb Conjugation
• When a verb is conjugated it means that someone is doing the action of the verb.– To talk
is not conjugated, we don’t know who is talking.
– She talksis conjugated, we know who is talking.

Infinitives
• When a verb is NOT conjugated, it is in the infinitive form.
• Infinitive forms of verbs always begin with “TO.”– to talk– to listen– to dance

Spanish Infinitive Verbs
hablar - to speak
comer - to eat
vivir - to live
• In Spanish, all infinitive verbs will end in
-ar, -er, -ir

Spanish Pronouns
• yo - I• tú - you (familiar)• usted - you (formal)• él - he• ella - she• no pronoun for “it”
• nosotros - we• vosotros - you all (familiar)• ustedes - you all (formal) • ellos - they• ellas - they (all feminine)

When conjugating verbs in Spanish, the following endings are used.
Memorize these verb endings.

To conjugate an “ar” verb– remove the “ar” from the end of the infinitive– hablar > habl– add the endings for “ar” verbs.
