AQUATIC INSTRUCTOR/GUARD CONTRACT POSITION
The Town of Penetanguishene is a picturesque community with a population of approximately 9000 located on the southerly tip of beautiful Georgian Bay. We are now accepting Aquatic Instructor/Guard applications for positions beginning in Fall of 2018. The Town offers swimming lessons for all ages at the Waypoint Atrium Building Pool. As an Aquatic Instructor/Guard, you will provide leadership and motivation through the instruction of Lifesaving Society Programs. You will also provide guarding and other additional water related courses. Working in a customer focused environment, you will be responsible for lesson planning and evaluation of program participants. You will contribute to a safe environment for staff and participants by educating all facility users on safe and enjoyable swimming practices, inspecting rescue equipment, and applying life support and first aid as required. DUTIES
Instruct learn-to-swim programs
Assist with the supervision and organization of swimming pool activities
Educate groups and individuals on the rules of the pool and enforce these rules
Assist with the cleanliness of the facility and equipment as required
Maintain adequate records including class progress reports, class attendance, test sheets and more, as required
Endeavour at all times to work as a team with supervisors and fellow staff members
Attend and actively participate in staff meetings and training QUALIFICATIONS
All applicants are to be a minimum of 16 years of age in accordance with Lifesaving Society standards.
Life Saving Society Instructor or equivalent
National Lifeguard Service (NLS)
Current Standard First Aid and CPR Level C
Police reference check with vulnerable sector screening prior to beginning employment
Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills
Automated External Defibrillator (AED) training would be considered an asset
Waterfront certification would be considered an asset
Written and oral French language skills would be considered an asset
Experience teaching swimming classes would be considered an asset COMPENSATION Minimum wage as per the Employment Standards Act. This is a contract position that continue to June 2019. Availability for varying shifts including evenings and weekends is required. Please include your Lifesaving Society Member ID number with your application.
