LaJeana Walls is an Oversight
Manager with East Lake and was
excited to join the company in
1998. Properties that she has
overseen during her tenure are
Ellis Lakeview, Kenwood, Wash-
ington Park, Drexel Street Proper-
ties, 6900 Crandon, South Apart-
ments, Luther Terrace, Vincennes
Courts, Calumet Apartments,
Market Place, Second City, HICA
and Roosevelt Independence.
She started at East Lake as a
Property Manager Trainee, in four
months she was promoted to
Property Supervisor, then became
a Residential Property Supervisor
and was promoted to her current
position in 2010.
“I enjoy helping people and main-
taining a decent, safe, and clean
development which allows us to
keep it highly marketable, profit-
able and functional.” LaJeana adds
that, “East Lake has allowed me
the chance to use my common
sense approach while implement-
ing new and creative ways to reach
objectives set by the ownership and
upper management.”
The Chicago native learned the
importance of education from her
mother and she has received de-
grees at Robert Morris College,
Moraine Valley, and the Real Estate
Institute.
A quote that means much to her
comes from Dr. King, “The ultimate
measure of a man is not where
he stands in moments of com-
fort, but where he stands at
times of challenge and contro-
versy.” Other words she lives
by include, “To whom much is
given much is required.”
Her keys to success are loyalty,
respect and remaining true to
those who have supported her
in reaching her goals. LaJeana
also believes that, “Hard work
will speak for itself, it requires
no introduction.” She also says
it is important to, “stand strong and
positive.”
Thank you LaJeana!

and it was an enjoyable evening
for all.
In celebration of Employee Spirit
Month in March, East Lake sent

formances of Dream Girls Chi-
cago at the Harold Washington
Cultural Center in Bronzeville at

“I take pride in fixing things and
keeping the building clean.” He
started working with East Lake
in August 2009. He says it is
important to, “come in to work
with a positive attitude and be
respectful.” He also says he
puts an emphasis on, “learning
as much as I can.” The words
he lives by are, “Help People.”
The Mexico native also believes
strongly in family.
VP of Property Management

company has good benefits and
good people.
Thank you Miguel!

Lawless Gardens Unveils a New Senior Center!
Wabash Crossing In Decatur Holds Spring Open House!
Wabash Crossing in Decatur, Illinois celebrated the opening of
their new management office at Ullrich Center and the intro-
duction of their new Model Unit with a special event on Thurs-
day, April 19th. The April Open House was attended by com-
munity leaders, residents and East Lake Corporate Executives.
Congratulations to Property Manager Tina Rice and the entire
staff of Wabash Crossing for a job well done!
On Friday, May 11th Lawless Gardens unveiled its
beautiful new Senior Center with a special event for
residents. The seniors enjoyed good food and con-
versation with each other plus Lawless and East
Lake executives. Several of the residents have lived
there many years and were very happy with their
colorful and beautifully decorated new center com-
plete with eye-catching artwork and a TV. Frances Tolbert is
the Property Manager at the 3550 S. Rhodes building where
the center is located and Cynthia Stewart is the Oversight Man-
ager. Congratulations Lawless!
As East Lake’s Director of Marketing one
of the projects I enjoy working on is the
company newsletter. Learning more
about East Lake’s story, accomplish-
ments, our founder Mr. Higginbottom and
the people who all work together as a
team to make the company successful is
very fascinating.
I am not a Chicagoan and East Lake is
helping me to learn the city in interesting
ways. I was born in Indiana in a small town outside of Indianapo-
lis (Kokomo) and I’ve lived all over the Midwest (I call myself a
“minister’s brat”). There are several generations of A.M.E. minis-
ters on both my paternal and maternal sides throughout the U.S.
My dad is definitely my hero and my mother is my role model.
I graduated Magna Cum Laude from Howard University
in Washington, D.C. with a Broadcast Management ma-
jor and Business Management minor. After 6 months
as a reporter at the ABC-TV station in Indianapolis I had
the opportunity to work at Johnson Publishing Company
(EBONY, JET and Fashion Fair Cosmetics).
I spent 20 years there as a Vice President and the foun-
der & CEO, John Johnson, was my mentor. One of the
most wonderful moments of my life with JPC was when I
met Nelson Mandela at the Presidential mansion in
Johannesburg. I struck out for five years with my own
company, Joy Communications, before coming to East
Lake in March 2011. I am the mother of two wonderful
sons, Andrew and Matthew. My parents instilled in me
the importance of education and always doing your best.
I’m glad to be here with you at East Lake!
