Red Cross Day of Pink

April 10, 2013 Wear the Shirt. Be the Difference.

The Canadian Red Cross, RBC Royal Bank and Safe Schools Manitoba invite your school or business to participate in Red Cross Day of Pink on April 10, 2013. Join us and schools throughout Manitoba in raising awareness about the impact of bullying by wearing pink!

The Canadian Red Cross Day of Pink is an initiative that provides students, staff and the larger community with the opportunity to discuss the impact of bullying and to learn how they can use their power to help create a safe and respectful school environment. On April 10, 2013, students, staff and community members wear pink shirts in solidarity to show that they are taking a stand against bullying.

How did it get started? It started in 2007 when two high school students in Nova Scotia took a stand against bullying in their school. The students asked all of their peers to wear pink to school after they heard a male classmate had been bullied for wearing a pink shirt. To continue the momentum, the Canadian Red Cross Day of Pink campaign brings together schools and communities to wear the shirt and stand together against bullying.

Link to the Red Cross Website, and for more information: http://www.redcross.ca/dayofpink/manitoba.asp

Our Gr. 8’s will be there!

If you ordered a Pink shirt, they will be sent home with your child on

Friday, April 5th.

SCHOOL OF CHOICE

School of Choice allows parents and students the ability to choose generally without cost, a school to be attended other than the one identified as serving the student’s current residential area.

There are certain responsibilities and obligations that the parents and students must meet when exercising School of Choice. Some considerations are: program suitability, space availability, application dates, and transportation.

The deadline for application for 2013—2014 is May 15, 2013. For further information, please contact 729-3955.

Be aware that applications will be difficult to get approval for due to space restrictions. All parents applying for School of Choice for their child must also be applying at their catchment school

Thank you!

Send in your

postage

stamps!

All you have to do is cut the

stamps off your incoming Canada

Post mail (with a 1/4" to 1/2" border)

and send them in!

We will send them to New Era

School who will then then take

them to Central United Church

who collects them and sends them

to the Leprosy Mission in Toronto,

Ontario.

For each pound of used stamps the

Leprosy Mission collects they

receive $7.60 from stamp

wholesalers and this money is then

used to buy medication to cure and

care for people with this horrible

disease. Thanks !

Just in time for...

J.R. Reid Magazine Campaign

Our Magazine Campaign is up and running! Our apologies for the delay. Mother Nature has proven to be a hindrance for our out of town magazine representative.

We appreciate your support. Though there are other companies that may ask for your new and renewal magazine orders, it would be very much appreciated if you waited for our campaign so the students can take your order. A significant portion of the funds stay here in our community. Thanks you in advance for “saving” your magazine orders and helping to make our campaign a great success.

Order booklets have been sent home to all students. If you feel you may sell more than what has been provided, there are more booklets available at the office.

How to Place Magazine orders ONLINE:

Any student who wishes to place an order online:

They can access the CCRP website on the school webpage.

Once there, click on “Order Magazines”

On the left side they’ll see “Supporters” with a box under it, enter the code MB1042

Please call 1-800-665-5133 if you have any questions. Good luck with your subscriptions!

Congratulations are in order!

To Jasmine Horwood and Jordyn Rolling!

They have won the Silver Medal in the 3-4 age group at the Western Manitoba Science Fair! They were competing against 80 children in this category.

Furthermore, the girls also received the Medical Laboratory Award!

Their project was titled “Soap & Waterworks”

We are very proud of you for your interest in science, your hard work and dedication.

Proud to be a J.R. Reider!

Page Badminton is beginning for the Gr. 7's and 8's - listen to announcements for practice times.

Bike Helmets are a bit late… due to arrive by mid-April.

Watch for them to come home, if you have ordered more than one you may wish to make

arrangements to help your child bring them home!
