Blue note Records: Beyond the notesd: sophie huber | 2018 | switzerland | 85 min | pG

Join us on a revelatory journey behind the scenes of Blue Note Records, the pioneering label that gave voice to some of the most ground-breaking jazz artists of the 20th and 21st centuries. Legends Herbie Hancock and Wayne Shorter come together with next-generation musicians to record a new album and reflect on the legacy Blue Note is built on: Thelonious Monk, Bud Powell, John Coltrane, Art Blakey, Horace Silver, Miles Davis and more. Tracing decades of history, Blue Note Records is a thrilling celebration of the core values that jazz embodies—freedom of expression, equality and dialogue—values that are just as relevant today as they were when the label was founded in 1939.

the Invisibles d: claus räfle | 2017 | Germany | 110 min | pG

In 1943, Joseph Goebbels declared Berlin “free of Jews.” Though he did come markedly close to his goal, some 1,700 endured in secret. This gripping docu-drama traces the astonishingly-true stories of four young survivors who learned that sometimes the best place to hide is in plain sight. Masterfully combining dramatic re-enactments with interviews, director Claus Räfle takes us inside the Berlin underground and alongside these rebellious teen heroes as they dodge Nazi officials and navigate a vast network of spies, stopping at nothing to evade capture. Brought to life by some of Germany’s most talented young actors, The Invisibles is a testament to the resourcefulness, willpower, and sheer chance that permit us to survive against incredible odds.
