April 2021 News Revitalizing Where We Live, Work, Shop & Play As a champion for Downtown Englewood, the Englewood Downtown Development Authority works to make Downtown economically vibrant, connected, safe and green. This initiative is fueled by a new vision and long-term plan for Downtown Englewood Introducing the Board of Directors After vetting and interviewing multiple candidates, seven finalists were approved by the city council in April. We are thrilled to welcome the inaugural EDDA board of directors. Blake Calvert, Core Consultants Blake Calvert is president and CEO of a professional services firm serving land development, energy and public development sectors from an office on South Broadway. The firm employs 71 people and has been in operation since 2014. Amy Gallegos, Eye Logic A doctor of optometry, Amy Gallegos owns an eye care clinic and optical that employs five people. Eye Logic opened in 2015 and serves patients of all ages and socioeconomic backgrounds. Her daily interactions with Englewood residents and workers afford her insights into a variety of community perspectives. Brad Nixon, Nixon’s Coffee House & Share Good Foods Brad Nixon owns a CityCenter coffee house focused on building community by gathering people over coffee and food. The business also provides wholesale grab- and-go food items for the Denver area market. Diane Reinhard, Vice President Patient Care Services and Chief Nursing Officer at Craig Hospital A 30+ year employee of Craig Hospital, Diane Reinhard is integral to improving the quality of life for those who have experienced a spinal cord and/or brain injury. Craig Hospital has been a major Englewood employer since 1970 with over 1000 employees. Patients come from across the nation, bringing family and friends with them. They frequent the shops and restaurants in the Englewood area. Othoniel Sierra, Mayor Pro Tem and City Councilmember A member of the city council since 2018, Othoniel Sierra has served as Englewood’s mayor pro tem since 2019. He is currently an account executive for Salesforce, a technology solution specializing in helping companies leverage workflows and internal systems. Hugo Weinberger, Situs Real Estate An Englewood resident and business owner for more than 20 years, Hugo Weinberger manages two office buildings with the help of 10 employees. Weinberger believes the City of Englewood has well-located, valuable real estate in the transit-oriented development location. Erika Zierke, Englewood Grand Erika Zierke is the owner of Englewood Grand, a five- year-old neighborhood bar located on South Broadway. The establishment has four employees and serves a wide demographic range, from fellow service industry workers andteachers to medical professionals and bankers, college students to retirees, and everything in between. Englewood Grand prides itself on cultivating a comfortable, welcoming environment that helps everyone feel safe and at home. Hilarie Portell, PortellWorks As the Englewood Downtown Development Authority’s interim executive director, Hilarie Portell will work closely with the EDDA board and City of Englewood to implement the authority’s initiatives in accordance with the Englewood Downtown Development Plan. She was a member of the Downtown Matters consultant team and is managing start-up operations and funding for the EDDA.
