What have we been working on? Recent early work has included removal of vegetation, delivery of earth fill, earth work on the eastern side of Clyde River and the relocation of the Nelligen bus stop.

Over the next few months, utility investigation and relocation work will be carried out. This will let us make sure utilities are moved to make way for the new bridge. We will keep the community informed on this work as it progresses.

Where to now? Following more studies, further improvements are being made to the detailed design of the project to reduce the environmental impacts of the new bridge. We are continuing to assess construction tenders throughout 2019 and plan to start major work later this year.

Traffic conditions around the project area will return to normal, until major work starts. The speed limit will return from 40 km/hr to 80 km p/hr.

Earth work on the eastern side of the bridge will be left to stablise until major work starts. This is necessary to prepare the ground for major work.

In coming months, we will also publish the project’s urban design and landscaping plan.

We’re also improving pedestrian safety west of Reid Street From May 2019, we will start pedestrian safety upgrades on the Kings Highway, 150 metres west of Reid Street. This work will further improve accessibility and connectivity around the Clyde River. Residents and businesses near the work will receive a separate notification closer to the start date.

Remnants of the old punt were unearthed during early work. The items included large pieces of pulleys, cabling, metal fixings and timber and were handed over to the Batemans Bay Historical Society for exhibit.

The work will include the installation of a street light, pedestrian island and an additional footpath on the northern side of the highway.
