APG L.A. MediA Tour

USA WAter Polo HeAded to tHe 2016 olymPicS in rio

In February, APG hit the road for an L.A. media tour with nutrition ambassador Cheryl Forberg (Chef and Nutritionist for NBC’s hit show The Biggest Loser) to spread the message about the benefits of pistachios and weight management. Via a live satellite media tour (SMT), Cheryl gave a demonstration of pistachio-infused recipes, and talked about American pistachios being an ideal healthy snack and ingredient. To date, more than 20 television and radio stations aired the segment, generating more than 561 million impressions for American pistachios weight loss message.

About Satellite Media Tours: Satellite media tours consist of a sequence of one-on-one live television interviews. They generally originate from a remote location and may be aired live by a series of television and radio stations, or they can be recorded for a later airing.

The Doctors features a panel of doctors discussing a variety of health topics. The group of specialists who comprise the panel deliver medical advice in an easily digestible, down-to-earth manner. Each doctor will weigh-in on medical topics brought up by guests and their real-life experiences, as well as issues raised by users that are a part of the series’ online community.

APG ambassadors Cheryl Forberg and the men’s USA Water Polo team will be featured in separate segments of The Doctors show. cheryl Forberg’s segment will air tuesday, April 26 on cBS at 9 am. In this episode, the panel of doctors and Cheryl have a lively discussion about the role pistachios play in weight loss and as part of a healthy, active lifestyle.

blogger Sarah Krisenherd, of Sarah’s Hot Spot Blog,

and created healthy and delicious, beautiful green

springtime pistachio dishes. In celebration of Easter,

Identità GoloseAn international congress dedicated to international signature cuisine in Milan, Italy, Identitá Golose, draws

the greatest chefs from Italy and around the world. From March 6-8, over 17, 000 consumers, chefs,

restaurateurs, pastry chefs, bloggers, journalists and opinion leaders gathered at this prestigious event. APG

was there with Italian ambassador Chef Stefania Corrado showcasing unique dishes created with American

original recipe wins American-

grown pistachios and a surprise

gift. A video is posted on APG’s

Facebook page to provide

BRItISh JouRnal of nutRItIon PIStaChIo newS announCed at GloBal eventSHealth professionals in Germany, Italy and France, following the breaking news of American pistachios,

have yet another reason to advocate the eating of our healthy nut. A new research article, published

in the British Journal of Nutrition (BJN), suggests that eating pistachios does not cause weight gain or

an increased risk of obesity when included in a healthy diet. APG’s campaign to spread the good news

throughout Europe included nutrition-focused tradeshows and events.

Florence, Italy; dietecom, March 24-25, 2016, Paris, France.

At each of the trade shows, the booth’s graphics served as an educational tool to display the key points

of the study’s findings. APG sample packs, along the latest infographics on topics such as pistachios

and diabetes, heart health, mortality, and active lifestyles and nutrient comparisons among nuts, were

distributed. Hundreds of nutritionists, eager to receive more news about pistachio nutritional benefits,

signed up to receive our quarterly nutrition e-Newsletter, American Pistachio Nutrition Unshelled.

u.K . Radio Media tour

World Pistachio Day was February 26. APG celebrated with activities and

events around the world promoting the benefits of pistachios for weight

management and other health goals.

In the U.K., American pistachios were celebrated

with a radio media tour with Dr. Xand Van

Tulleken, a popular celebrity doctor and

documentary presenter. His message about the

health benefits of American pistachios and how

they can aid in weight loss was broadcasted was

to over 4.8 million consumers throughout the

United Kingdom. Thirteen key BBC and regional

radio stations participated in the interviews.

Interviews were also secured with key online

publications such as the Mail Online, New!,

Woman’s Own and the Sunday Mirror.

Xand Van Tulleken trained in medicine at Oxford

University and since then has combined National

Health Service (NHS) work with global health

and television. He has a reputation for being at

the forefront of the medical benefits of a variety

of food types.

#PistachioDiet Contest in Spain

In Spain, World Pistachio Day was celebrated with APG’s #PistachioDiet Facebook recipe

contest held from February 17 – 29, 2016. The goal of the contest was to increase awareness of

pistachios benefits for weight management as well as their culinary versatility as an ingredient.

APG challenged eight of Spain’s most popular bloggers to create delicious, low-calorie recipes

using American-grown pistachios. Facebook fans were invited to vote for their favorite recipe.

Annual mrl Harmonization Workshop JUne 1 & 2

Presentation topics include international trade trends, global registrations, pesticide residue monitoring, MRL strategies for growers, updates for international residue standards, global MRL challenges, and research reports regarding the impacts of residues. Jay Vroom, President of CropLife America, will kick off the Workshop by discussing, “How modern Agriculture reduces Food Waste and the role of mrl Harmonization.”

International presenters from the European Union, Korea, Chile, Brazil, India and Canada will report on the latest MRL requirements for these major trade destinations. A Codex update will be presented by Mr. David Miller of the U.S. EPA’s Health Effects Division.

The California Specialty Crops Council will hold its eleventh annual MRL Harmonization Workshop on June 1-2, 2016, in San Francisco. The interactive seminar, based on maximum residue levels (MRLs), will address critically important issues for stakeholders with interests in exporting agricultural products. Registrants, growers, packers, shippers, PCAs, regulators, trade experts, and other stakeholders in international trade are strongly encouraged to attend.

The California Specialty Crops Council (CSCC), a 501(c) 5 non-profit organization, is a trusted source of field-based information spanning horticultural crop production, pest management, food safety and stewardship activities in fruit, root, vegetable, vine and berry crops (fresh, dried, and processed). Its diverse partnership of ag organizations also includes the California State Beekeepers Association. Combined, CSCC growers generate almost $4.1 billion annually on approximately 522,000 acres of California farmland.
