Please join us in congratulating Darrian Dalton, RN, the most recent recipient of the Daisy Award at T.J. Samson Community Hospital. Darrian works in the Step Down Unit, and she received TWO Daisy Award nominations which were submitted by two different patients' family members. Way to go, Darrian! Keep up the great work!

Darrian has been so knowledgeable and professional and compassionate to the patient and our family. She has put the needs of the patient extremely above what would be required. She has been so kind and sweet to our patient and to us, the family. We feel she excels above and beyond the criteria listed above.

Darrian goes above and beyond to make sure her patients are taken care of as well as the family that is with the patient. She is very gentle, kind, sweet and always has a smile on her face. She will try her best to get her patients to smile or laugh if they are having not such a good day, and is able to do so! We had questions about my dad's health and his meds and surgery and she either had the answer or found out the answer for me and my mom. She and the nurse aids she had helping her always made a great team as well as everyone she worked with. There is so much more I could say about her and her amazing skills!

Congratulations,Darrian Dalton!

In January 2017, an associate of the Vice Lords street gang was sentenced in the Eastern District of Michigan to 48 months in prison for witness tampering by obtaining and disclosing the private health information of Vice Lords shooting victims and victims’ family members to a member of the gang. The defendant admitted that from May 8, 2015, through at least January 2016, he was employed at a medical facility where he had access to a private database that contained individually identifiable health information for anyone who had been treated at a Detroit Medical Center facility. To be entered into a drawing to win a $25 gift card from Sidelines, T.J. employees should send an email to [email protected] with your name and contact information. Good luck!

At the request of his brother and fellow gang member, and while employed at the medical facility, the defendant accessed this database on at least 15 occasions to search for three shooting victims, he admitted. The defendant then provided information, including dates of birth, phone numbers, addresses, and information pertaining to relatives of these victims to his brother. The defendant admitted that he knew his brother wanted this information to locate these relatives and prevent them from cooperating in the investigation and prosecution of the Vice Lords shooting.HI

Week 3: Munching Mindfully

When the stress of life hits you, do you reach for the candy jar for a quick taste of relief? Do you eat while watching TV and before you know it, the entire bag is gone? If so, the types and amount of food may not be the only reason for weight gain. The why you eat impacts what and how much you consume. We often eat because of sadness, stress, loneliness, boredom, or due to distraction. This over consumption not only leads to weight gain, but may result in guilt and shame which too often leads to yo-yo dieting. Mindful eating can break this cycle of overeating and dieting.

Mindful Bites

Mindfulness may help with more than just your eating habits. Try these short, powerful mindfulness exercises.

Healthy Recipe

Incorporate a whole grain, lean protein, and hardy vegetables in one meal with this southwest chicken rice and quinoa skillet.
