USTA

On behalf of the United States Tennis Association, it is my pleasure to welcome you to the Surprise Tennis & Racquet Complex and the 2019 USTA Tennis On Campus National Championship. This one-of-a-kind event celebrates the culmination of the 2019 Tennis On Campus season, and it brings together hundreds of student-athletes throughout the country to compete for the title of national champion.

Tennis On Campus is one of the USTA’s most popular and successful initiatives, providing thousands of players who do not participate in a varsity tennis program with an opportunity to get involved—and stay involved—in the sport that they love. Tennis On Campus has helped not only to grow our game, but also to enhance the lives of those who participate in it. It’s a fun, social program that has produced a whole new generation of players who have discovered the countless opportunities and the host of benefits that tennis provides; opportunities and benefits that will stay with them throughout their lives.

Since its inception in 2000, participation in the Tennis On Campus program has grown significantly from a few thousand players to more than 40,000 players competing at more than 700 colleges and universities throughout the country. Tennis On Campus has been great for tennis—and equally great for the individuals who participate in it. The excitement, enthusiasm and fun on display here this week is perfectly reflective of what Tennis on Campus is all about. Expect lots of great competition and loads of great fun; all essential ingredients of one great sport.

I want to thank the USTA’s valuable partners in this event, including NIRSA and World TeamTennis and offer a special thank you to everyone here at Surprise Tennis & Racquet Complex for all of your help and hospitality in putting together this wonderful event. And of course, thanks to all of the USTA volunteers and staff who have made Tennis On Campus the success story that it has become.

With three days of thrilling competition and unbridled team spirit, the 2019 USTA Tennis On Campus National Championship promises to be an unforgettable event, both for players and fans alike. I congratulate all the competing teams, and I thank you all for your support of Tennis On Campus.

Enjoy the competition!

Patrick J. Galbraith USTA Chairman and President

Players, coaches, spectators, and staff:

On behalf of NIRSA, NIRSA Services Corporation Board and the NIRSA Championship Series Committee, I am thrilled to welcome you all to this milestone tournament in Surprise, AZ. This year’s USTA Tennis On Campus Championship part of the NIRSA Championship Series marks the 20th consecutive year of national championship tournament play for tennis. Thank you all for being here to celebrate the occasion with your commitment to inclusive recreation, spirited competition, and fair play.

For twenty years, the National Tennis Championship has gained renown among colleges and universities not only for its high-level national competition, but also for serving as a platform for professional development where young professionals build skills and engage in hands-on learning. The passion of our officials and of the tournament staff drives the efficient organization of this tournament and makes the participants’ experiences and opportunities for growth all the richer.

While you’re enjoying all the rallies and point scoring the next few days will bring, don’t forget this tournament is a singular opportunity to stand with your teammates and represent your home institution and the broader NIRSA and USTA communities while competing with fellow elite athletes from across the continent. Know that while you’re here, you are surrounded by likeminded people who share your commitment to making this tournament the very best it can be.

As the tournament unfolds, we are grateful for your leadership and collaboration in helping to create a positive experience for everyone involved. In embracing the inclusive yet competitive spirit that we have all worked so hard to create, uphold, and enjoy, you’ll be forming life-long memories and supporting inclusive, sustainable communities of health and wellbeing, which is what USAT and NIRSA are all about.

Enjoy your time on and off the court here at the Surprise Tennis & Racquet Complex and good luck to all 64 teams!

Sincerely,

Mark Williams President, NIRSA Services Corporation University of Notre Dame
