3 Introduction

3.1 Scope of Document This document provides a list of Bosch Rexroth Hydraulic Products and Systems to be used for the hydraulic equipment in machines for VOLVO using HFC fluids. The use of components not listed in the Program Book requires a deviation from VOLVO commodity area: A deviation is not requested for non active components as: Steel parts, assembly accessories, orifices and card holders for amplifier cards.

3.2 General Requirements All standards referenced in ISO 4413 as well as in ISO 1219 shall be adhered to. Supplier shall design and built all machinery and equipment to comply with current industry international accepted standards. Where buyer requirements and/or governmental laws and regulations, conflict with one another the hydraulic system design shall adhere to the strictest of these requirements. The listed components and systems represent core items of hydraulic equipment for machines and equipment in the VOLVO plants. Design of hydraulic power supply and control shall meet the requirements of energy saving as well as maintainability and reliability. The recommended use of frequency controlled pump drives requires detailed check of dimensions e.g. pipes & hoses, reservoir, oil filters, air breather etc.

4 Hydraulic Components approved for fire-resistant fluids of the HFC-Group

Recommendations for the use of HFC-fluids The features of hydraulic fluids of the group HFC (water glycol) to DIN EN ISO 12922 and VDMA 24317 are different in comparison to mineral oil. Design of hydraulic units have to take care of these specials. • The ideal operating temperature is +40°C.

This has to be considered for the heat balance. Operating temperatures higher than 60°C are forbidden.

• The maximum operation pressure is 210 bar.

• The density of HFC fluids is around 20 % higher than mineral oil. Suction pipes have to be

dimensioned larger (next size). • Degasification of water glycol is much worse. This must be considered when designing the unit to

avoid cavitation and erosion.

• Monitoring of the fluid to meet the manufacturer´s specification is required for a proper operating of the unit.

• Because the fluid doesn’t release contaminants easily a continuous checking for solid and liquid

contamination of the HFC fluid is very important. Contamination with other fluids (even with another HFC fluid) has to be avoided.

• Devices and pipes of the hydraulic power unit must not drain when machine stops and air pockets

must be eliminated. Long down times need to be avoided.

• Following metallic substances must not be used: Zinc, aluminium, cadmium, magnesium • The following materials and seals shall not be used:

FKM-Seals and substances based on polyurethane PU (Vulkollan or Hydrofit), polyamide (PA), asbestos und leather.
