Although its history dates back centuries, since the 1950s Malaga has been best-known as the gateway to the Costa de Sol. Its cultural fortunes have been boosted immeasurably by the new Picasso museum - the artist was born here - and contemporary art centre, plus a great selection of museums, the city is finding a new identity as Andalucia´s leading cultural destination.

Regarding transportation, Malaga has the Malaga Airport or Costa del Sol Airport. You can visit cities like Madrid, Seville or Valencia by train or bus.

Alternatively, you can spend your free time to discover the places in Malaga. Here are some suggestions.

A little further eastwards along the coast from Playa Malagueta is Playa Caleta, another superb city-beach known for being the most well-maintained in the area. Despite its proximity to the city center, Caleta doesn’t feel closed-in, grimy or overcrowded: from its clean sands are beautiful views of the rough, mountainous terrain that surrounds Málaga.

Malaga’s central market, known locally as Mercado Central de Ataranzanas is one of the city’s most visited spots, and boasts an interesting history. The market was first built in the 14th century as a shipyard (atarazana in Arabic), but over the years it has been used as a convent, military arsenal and hospital.
