Appendix E: Facility Comfort Survey Results
OVERVIEW The facility comfort survey was developed to help MnDOT learn more about pedestrian comfort with a variety of roadway treatments. The survey was sent to listservs by MnDOT and MDH, publicized through Citizens League, and was also linked to via the Minnesota Pedestrian System Plan website (www.minnesotawalks.org). Nearly 800 people took the survey, with 677 people completing it in its entirety. The survey was available to anyone who wanted to take it but creating a statistically valid survey was not a part of the scope of this project. Participants who opted in to taking the survey are not necessarily a representative sample of Minnesotans.
The survey focused on two distinct roadway treatment categories: treatments for crossing a roadway, and treatments for walking along a roadway. There were ten different treatments for crossing a roadway, and seven for walking along a roadway. Each of the treatments had an accompanying image to illustrate a visual example of what each treatment looks like. The following pages provide a summary of survey respondents and aggregated responses for each question.
