Minerals

Minerals

There are coal resources in the Eastern and Northern parts of the Brierley Hill which

might be are capable of extraction using surface mining methods. The surface coalresource forms part of the Minerals Safeguarding Area defined in the emerging BlackCountry Core Strategy. As part of any development or regeneration proposals withinthese areas full consideration shouldwill need to be given to the extraction of thosemineral resources prior to development taking place, in order that the mineralresources are not unnecessarily sterilised.

The Brierley Hill AAP area has been subject to extensive past coal mining activity,which has left a legacy. This legacy includes mine entries (shafts and adits) andshallow mine workings, which can present a risk to new development. Developmentproposals in the AAP area should therefore give full consideration to coal mining

information and, where necessary, propose and implement mitigation measures toensure the safety and stability of new development
