Pastor’s Message: First Sunday in Lent

“When the devil had finished every temptation, he departed from him for a time.” (Luke 4:13) Today’s gospel ends with a warning concerning the cunning nature of the devil! Having been unsuccessful in tempting Jesus, the devil will return when Jesus finds himself in a vulnerable situation. Similarly, it is in those vulnerable positions when we are at our weakest and temptations overcomes us! Sadly, like the devil in the desert, we often put God to the test. How often do we put out excuses while wantonly feasting on a favorite food or drink? Or giving in to prejudice and bias instead of being hospitable to everyone? Lent is the season to discover those vulnerable spots in our lives - our weaknesses. It is a time to find out who and what we are as it relates to our faith. Lent is also a time to interact within our St. Faustina community. Everyone is welcome to the Friday soup suppers leading to the Stations of the Cross; Wednesday exposition, Divine Mercy chaplet, adoration, and benediction; Communal Reconciliation services, and my door is always open for a personal spiritual chat. Remember, we are not alone in our spiritual journey. May God’s love protect us during our weak moments and nurture our hunger for Him always in Word and Sacrament as we journey together through this Lenten season. “For there is no distinction between Jew and Greek; the same Lord is Lord of all, enriching all who call upon him.” (Roman 10:12)
