married. They continued to live onthe farm, planting and harvesting cel-ery. They also started Heart Produce,and they packaged celery for sale.Bern and Lil had a travel trailer andenjoyed camping. They also visited ason in Florida, went to Alaska, and onseveral other tours.
Lil enjoys gardening. They alwayshad flowers on the farm, and now shegardens with a variety of flowers in herwindowsill. Lil has also volunteered tohelp plant and care for the flowersoutside the Life Enrichment Room.Thank you, Lil!! Lil enjoys participat-ing in all the activities at Sheldon,
and really enjoys liv-ing here. Thank you,Lil, for sharing a partof your life with us. Itis good to get toknow you!
Lillian “Lil” C.Lil was born to Dick and Alice on
September 15, 1930 in Hudsonville,MI. Lil had three older brothers, andtwo older sisters. She attended Beaver-dam Christian School, and graduatedfrom Holland Christian School. Lil’sparents owned a muck farm on NewHolland and 48th Ave. She helpedwork the farm after school and everysummer. She planted, weeded, andhelped harvest the celery. There wasno extra time for extracurricular ac-tivities at school, but she liked ridingher bike when the work was done.
When Lil was eighteen, she mar-ried Richard, who worked on the cel-ery farm next door.They continued tolive on the farm, andhad three boys andone girl. Lil andRichard parted ways.Lil’s sister introducedher to Bern, and they
