“The Laying on of Hands.”

Hands speak of service or ministry, the hands

are for giving. Webster defines “giving ourhands,” as “impartation.” “To impart,to give or grasp what one has bycontact, association or influence,to communicate or transmit.”

When God calls a man to a special task, Godalso makes available to that man, all the means andthe Grace required for the successfulaccomplishment and fulfilment of that task.

“The Touch of God, is theAcknowledgment of the calling.”

The hand is the vehicle of Blessing, we lift ourhands in Worship and Praise to Bless God. We liftour hands, extend our hands, and lay our hands

upon others to communicate theBlessing of The Lord through us asa vessel of impartation. So, handsbring the Power and Love of God tothe area of need.

1 Chronicles 29 Verse 12(b)

“... and in Thine Hand [is] Powerand Might; and in Thine Hand [it is]to make great, and to give strengthunto all.”

To give someone your hand meant to giveyourself in commitment, for example, as inmarriage, it used to be, that it was common respectto go to a young lady’s father and ask for her handin marriage. It is with our hands that we eitherwithhold or release benefits to others. Paul states,

Romans 1 Verse 11

“For I long to see you, that I may impartunto you some spiritual gift, to the end yemay be established;”

2 Corinthians 4 Verse 7 “But we have this treasure

in earthen vessels, that the excellency ofthe power may be of God, and not ofus.”

“You can’t give, what you do nothave!” We are described as having “treasurein earthen vessels.”

“God will not fill an unclean vessel.”

Psalm 24 Verses 3-4 “Who shall ascend into the hillof The LORD? or who shall stand in His HolyPlace?” (4) “He that hath clean hands, and a pureheart; who hath not lifted up his soul unto vanity, norsworn deceitfully.”

With clean hands and a pure heart, we becomeministers or vessels for God’s service, in thetransference of ...

1) A Blessing from God.

2) In setting apart or consecratingthose for the service of God and for the impartationof The Holy Spirit.

3) In becoming the imparter of Christ’shealing virtue, (you can only touchpeople for God, if you yourselvesare ... TOUCHING GOD:)

Acts 10 Verse 38 “How God AnointedJesus of Nazareth with The Holy Ghost andwith power: who went about doing good, andhealing all that were oppressed of the devil; for Godwas with Him.”

The woman who touched thehem of Jesus’ garment.

Matthew 9 Verse 20 “And, behold, a woman, whichwas diseased with an issue of blood twelve years,

came behind [Him], and touched the hemof His garment:”

The release of healing throughThe Anointing of The Holy Ghost,

Matthew 14 Verse 36 “And besought Him that theymight only touch the hem of His garment: ... and as

many as touched were made perfectly whole.”

God has ordained that people should

pass on or confer to others,Blessing, through “the laying on ofhands.”

In the Old Testament, to lay your hands uponsomething was to transfer what you were and whatyou stood for, to the thing or object onto which you

laid your hands. In fact, it was as a formof recognition or signature:

Page 7: “The Laying on of Hands. - menorah publications...“The Laying on of Hands.” Hands speak of service or ministry, the hands are for giving. Webster defines “giving our hands,”as

a) An elder would impart blessing tosomeone by laying hands onhim, by prophesying or praying.

b) A father would, in this way, passon his strength and authorityand his own personal blessing inconjunction with God’s Blessing, his hands imparted that Blessing tohis children.

Genesis 48 Verses 13-20 “And Joseph took themboth, Ephraim in his right hand toward Israel’s lefthand, and Manasseh in his left hand toward Israel’sright hand, and brought [them] near unto him.”(14) “And Israel stretched out his right hand, andlaid [it] upon Ephraim’s head, who [was] theyounger, and his left hand upon Manasseh’s head, guiding his hands wittingly; for Manasseh [was] thefirstborn. (15) And he blessed Joseph, and said,God, before whom my fathers Abraham and Isaacdid walk, the God which fed me all my life long untothis day,” (16) “The Angel which redeemed me fromall evil, bless the lads; and let my name be namedon them, and the name of my fathers Abraham andIsaac; and let them grow into a multitude in themidst of the earth.”

Page 8: “The Laying on of Hands. - menorah publications...“The Laying on of Hands.” Hands speak of service or ministry, the hands are for giving. Webster defines “giving our hands,”as

(17) “And when Joseph saw that his father laid hisright hand upon the head of Ephraim, it displeasedhim: and he held up his father’s hand, to remove itfrom Ephraim’s head unto Manasseh’s head.”(18) “And Joseph said unto his father, Not so, myfather: for this [is] the firstborn; put thy right handupon his head.” (19) “And his father refused, andsaid, I know [it], my son, I know [it]: he also shallbecome a people, and he also shall be great: buttruly his younger brother shall be greater than he,and his seed shall become a multitude of nations.”(20) “And he blessed them that day, saying, In theeshall Israel bless, saying, God make thee asEphraim and as Manasseh: and he set Ephraimbefore Manasseh.”

From the reserves of the fathers prosperity, theelder son receives abundance in,

“the double portion!” God’s first word to Hisfirst man, were to be,

Genesis 1 Verse 22 “And God blessed them, saying, Be fruitful, and multiply, and fill the waters inthe seas, and let fowl multiply in the earth.”

The Hebrew word for “Blessed,” is the

word; “Barak” meaning, “God hasBlessed” pronounced (Baw - rak.)

Page 9: “The Laying on of Hands. - menorah publications...“The Laying on of Hands.” Hands speak of service or ministry, the hands are for giving. Webster defines “giving our hands,”as

This word means “to humble andto kneel in order to blessabundantly.”

c) The priest communicated God’sFavour to the people through anuplifted, open hand.

Leviticus 9 Verse 22(a) “And Aaron lifted up hishand toward the people, and blessed them ...”

d) The Hebrew word, “to consecrate” means

“to fill the hands.”

1 Chronicles 29 Verse 5 “The gold for [things] ofgold, and the silver for [things] of silver, and for allmanner of work [to be made] by the hands ofartificers. And who [then] is willing to consecrate hisservice this day unto The LORD?”

e) As a personal worship expressiontowards God. Lifting up the

hand in praise and worshipmeans surrender to another.

Page 10: “The Laying on of Hands. - menorah publications...“The Laying on of Hands.” Hands speak of service or ministry, the hands are for giving. Webster defines “giving our hands,”as

Psalm 141 Verse 2 “Let my prayer be set forthbefore Thee [as] incense; [and] the lifting up of myhands [as] the evening sacrifice.”

f) The lifting up of hands in responseto God’s Word meant ...

“commitment!”

Psalm 119 Verse 48 “My hands also will I lift upunto Thy commandments, which I have loved; and Iwill meditate in Thy statutes.”

“Identification, with repentance andsacrifice.”

According to the Old Covenant, personal guilt

for sin was transferred to a sacrificial victim by“the laying on of hands.” God demandedthat sin be paid for with the death of the sinner.

However, He would accept a substitutesacrifice, and this substitute would die, with theshedding of the innocent victim’s blood. The layingon of hands made possible the transfer orimpartation of the sinners guilt to the animal hebrought to be sacrificed.

Leviticus 1 Verse 4 “And he shall put his hand uponthe head of the burnt offering; and it shall beaccepted for him to make atonement for him.”

When someone has been made a

“scape-goat,” the implication goes right backto Old Testament times. When Aaron was instructedto take from the children of Israel, two goats for asin offering. Aaron cast lots, upon the two goats, one lot for the Lord, the other lot for the scapegoat.

Leviticus 16 Verse 8 “And Aaron shall cast lots uponthe two goats; one lot for The LORD, and the otherlot for the scapegoat.”

The one on which the lot fell tobe The Lord’s was offered for a sinoffering.

The other one on which the lotfell to be scapegoat, was to bepresented alive to make atonementwith and was to be let go into thewilderness.

Page 12: “The Laying on of Hands. - menorah publications...“The Laying on of Hands.” Hands speak of service or ministry, the hands are for giving. Webster defines “giving our hands,”as

Leviticus 16 Verses 9-10 “And Aaron shall bring thegoat upon which the LORD’S lot fell, and offer him[for] a sin offering.”

(10) “But the goat, on which the lotfell to be the scapegoat, shall bepresented alive before The LORD,to make an atonement with him,[and] to let him go for a scapegoatinto the wilderness.”

Aaron the priest, laid both hands on the headof the scapegoat and confessed over it the sins ofIsrael putting them upon its head, then sending itaway, it was led out to the wilderness by the hand of

a fit man. “The scapegoat,” became

“the sin-bearer” and was to wander about inthe wilderness.

Leviticus 16 Verse 21 “And Aaron ... shall layboth his hands upon the head of thelive goat, and confess over him ... all theiniquities ... of the children of Israel, ... and all theirtransgressions ... in all their sins, ... putting themupon the head of the goat, and shall send [him]away by the hand of a fit man into the wilderness:”

The people identified repentance and thesacrificed animal as the way back to God. The LordJesus Christ, The Lamb of God, without spot, wrinkle or blemish, by His shed Blood through theNew Covenant, we have remission of sins, so theOld Testament form of shed blood has beencancelled out by the one perfect sacrifice ...

The Lord Jesus Christ who gave Himself for us.In a New Covenant sense, when we are raising our

hands toward Him, who IS

“HOLINESS PERSONIFIED;”

We are identifying with Hissacrifice for our lives!

1 John 1 Verses 9-10 “If we confess our sins, ... Heis faithful and just to forgive us [our] sins, and tocleanse us from all unrighteousness.”(10) “If we say that we have not sinned, we makeHim a liar, and His Word is not in us.”

“If we confess our sins, ...”

Sins confessed - “iniquities”- “transgressions”- “sins of ignorance.”

Page 14: “The Laying on of Hands. - menorah publications...“The Laying on of Hands.” Hands speak of service or ministry, the hands are for giving. Webster defines “giving our hands,”as

What a wonderful picture, “Praise Godfor our Master’s Sacrifice!!!”

John 1 Verse 29 “The next day John seeth Jesuscoming unto him, and saith,

Behold the Lamb of God, whichtaketh away the sin of the world.”

Hebrews 10 Verse 12 “But this man, after He hadoffered one sacrifice for sins for ever, sat down on

the right hand of God;”

Hebrews 10 Verses 14-23 “For by one offering Hehath perfected for ever them that are sanctified.”(15) “[Whereof] The Holy Ghost also is a witness tous: for after that He had said before,”(16) “This [is] The Covenant that I will make withthem after those days, saith The Lord, I will put Mylaws into their hearts, and in their minds will I writethem;” (17) “And their sins and iniquities will Iremember no more.” (18) “Now where remission ofthese [is, there is] no more offering for sin.”(19) “Having therefore, brethren, boldness to enterinto The Holiest by The Blood of Jesus,”(20) “By a new and living way, which He hathconsecrated for us, through the veil, that is to say,His flesh;” (21) “And [having] an high priest overThe House of God;”

Page 15: “The Laying on of Hands. - menorah publications...“The Laying on of Hands.” Hands speak of service or ministry, the hands are for giving. Webster defines “giving our hands,”as

(22) “Let us draw near with a true heart in fullassurance of Faith, having our hearts sprinkled froman evil conscience, and our bodies washed withpure water.” (23) “Let us hold fast the profession of[our] Faith without wavering; (for He [is] Faithful thatpromised;)”

By “Impartation,” we become

the vessel of “Life And Blessing” fromwhich Living water flows, to touch those around us.

Are we touching folk with clean ormuddied water!!???

Numbers 8 Verses 10-11 “And thou shalt bring theLevites before The LORD: and the children of Israel

shall put their hands upon theLevites:” (11) “And Aaron shall offer the Levitesbefore The LORD [for] an offering of the children of

Israel, that they may execute theservice of the LORD.”

God speaks of His active power on the earth as

“His hands.” Whenever God intervenedmightily in the affairs of men, they sang of His

praise in terms of what “His hands” had done.

Page 16: “The Laying on of Hands. - menorah publications...“The Laying on of Hands.” Hands speak of service or ministry, the hands are for giving. Webster defines “giving our hands,”as

Psalm 118 Verse 16 “The Right Hand ofThe LORD is exalted: The RightHand of The LORD doeth valiantly.”

a) It is specific ...

Israel (Jacob) guided his hands specifically tobless Joseph’s children. The right hand alwayscontained the greater blessing. Usually, this wasplaced upon the first-born male child’s head sincehe inherited the tribal blessing and the birthright ...

the “double portion as the firstborn:”

b) It Is Permanent ...

Jacob himself had schemed to obtain both thebirthright and the blessing. He knew throughexperience, the reality of a Blessing communicatedthrough the laying on of hands.

1) The blessing for each child wasspecific.

2) Once given to Jacob, it could notbe taken away.

Page 17: “The Laying on of Hands. - menorah publications...“The Laying on of Hands.” Hands speak of service or ministry, the hands are for giving. Webster defines “giving our hands,”as

3) Esau could only receive a minorblessing since Jacob had takenhis portion.

All of this, was not mere form,“something real had transpired, andit still does!”

c) It Requires Faith ...

Laying on of hands to transmit Blessingrequires Faith in God. Empty hands communicatenothing but good will. If a patriarch wanted to givesomething to his descendants, he had to believeGod to flow through this human means. Spiritual

blessing is not within us to give; we are butvessels. God has to give His Own Blessing

through our hands ...

What are you passing on?

Hebrews 11 Verses 20-21 “By Faith Isaac blessedJacob and Esau concerning things to come.”(21) “By Faith Jacob, when he was a dying, blessedboth the sons of Joseph; and worshipped, [leaning]upon the top of his staff.”

Page 18: “The Laying on of Hands. - menorah publications...“The Laying on of Hands.” Hands speak of service or ministry, the hands are for giving. Webster defines “giving our hands,”as

d) It Is By Authority ...

“Laying on of hands,” is related toposition of authority. Only those with authority could

pass what was imparted on to others, but morethan this, the child who received theblessing, received that authority inthe service of the Lord and thosearound him!

Numbers 27 Verses 18-23 “And The LORD said

unto Moses, Take thee Joshua the son of Nun, aman in whom [is] the spirit, and laythine hand upon him;” (19) “And sethim before Eleazar the priest, andbefore all the congregation; andgive him a charge in their sight.”(20) “And thou shalt put [some] ofthine honour upon him, that all thecongregation of the children ofIsrael may be obedient.”

Page 19: “The Laying on of Hands. - menorah publications...“The Laying on of Hands.” Hands speak of service or ministry, the hands are for giving. Webster defines “giving our hands,”as

(21) “And he shall stand before Eleazar the priest, who shall ask [counsel] for him after the judgment ofUrim before The LORD: at his word shall they goout, and at his word they shall come in, [both] he,and all the children of Israel with him, even all thecongregation.” (22) “And Moses did as The LORDcommanded him: and he took Joshua, and set himbefore Eleazar the priest, and before all the

congregation:” (23) “And he laid his handsupon him, and gave him a charge,as The LORD commanded by thehand of Moses.”

“The Right Hand of Fellowship.”

I do not purpose to be drawn into tangentdiscussion concerning this hand or that hand or inwhat manner the laying on of hands should occur.

The point being made here must be stressed inthe fact that Jesus is seated at The Right Hand ofThe Father, The Holy Spirit is the executiveadministrator of the Godhead in the world.

The Might and the Power of theFather’s Right Hand, “ChristPersonified.”

Page 20: “The Laying on of Hands. - menorah publications...“The Laying on of Hands.” Hands speak of service or ministry, the hands are for giving. Webster defines “giving our hands,”as

Psalm 98 Verse 1 “O sing unto The LORD a newsong; for He hath done marvellous things:

His Right hand, and His Holy Arm,hath gotten Him the victory.”

Acts 5 Verse 31 “Him hath God exalted with HisRight Hand [to be] a Prince and a Saviour, for togive repentance to Israel, and forgiveness of sins.”

It is interesting to note, that the right hand hasbeen classified as the sword hand, it is God who

trains our hands for battle. And when thesword hand is emptied, it becomesextended as the hand of fellowship.

The hand is the extension of the personhimself. His power to labour with skill and his abilityto fight against the enemy. It is in the hands that aman carries gifts to bestow on others, or to bringsacrifices to God. It is the hand that is joined with

another to forge a friendship ...

“the right hand of fellowship:”

2 Kings 10 Verse 15 “And when he was departedthence, he lighted on Jehonadab the son of Rechab

[coming] to meet him: and he saluted him,and said to him, Is thine heart right,as my heart [is] with thy heart? AndJehonadab answered, It is. If it be,give [me] thine hand. And he gave[him] his hand; and he took him up to himinto the chariot.”

Galatians 2 Verse 9 “And when James, Cephas, and John, who seemed to be pillars, perceived the

Grace that was given unto me, they gave tome and Barnabas the right hands offellowship; that we [should go] unto theheathen, and they unto the circumcision.”

This was because the innermostperson was believed to be honestlyexpressed through the right hand.Whilst the left hand was expressedas deceit, (It is significant that satanists alwaysuse the left hand in laying on of hands and inworship.)

Page 22: “The Laying on of Hands. - menorah publications...“The Laying on of Hands.” Hands speak of service or ministry, the hands are for giving. Webster defines “giving our hands,”as

“The right hand speaks of honour.”

Psalm 16 Verse 8 “I have set The LORD alwaysbefore me: because [He is] at my right hand, I shallnot be moved.”

... “God stands at our right handto protect us.”

Psalm 121 Verses 5-8 “The LORD [is] thy keeper:The LORD [is] thy shade upon thy right hand.”(6) “The sun shall not smite thee by day, nor themoon by night.” (7) “The LORD shall preserve theefrom all evil: He shall preserve thy soul.”(8) “The LORD shall preserve thy going out and thycoming in from this time forth, and even forevermore.”

“The Holy Spirit bestowed by ... TheLaying on of Hands.”

An open hand means both “favour andBlessing” ... God uses people that He hasjoined Himself to as vessels through whom Hepours Himself. In the Old Testament, the Spiritcame upon people sporadically.

Page 23: “The Laying on of Hands. - menorah publications...“The Laying on of Hands.” Hands speak of service or ministry, the hands are for giving. Webster defines “giving our hands,”as

In the New Testament, the HolySpirit came to indwell permanently in men.

When God came upon men to give specialpower and ability, this was called,

“The Hand of God.”

Ezekiel 8 Verse 1 “And it came to pass in the sixthyear, in the sixth [month], in the fifth [day] of themonth, [as] I sat in mine house, and the elders of

Judah sat before me, that The Hand ofThe Lord GOD fell there upon me.”

The Father speaks of Jesus“The Messiah” as “His hand.” Jesus

similarly spoke of The Holy Spirit as Hiscontinued power to act on earthafter His Ascension.

Exodus 15 Verse 6 “Thy Right Hand, OLORD, is become Glorious inPower: Thy Right Hand, O LORD, hathdashed in pieces the enemy.” (distinctions mine)

Men and women, set aside for the purpose ofservice, to and for God, were given

“an Unction” of The Holy Spirit. God moved inand through the Anointing of The Holy Ghost but thefulness of the Spirit ... the endurement of powerfrom on high ... was not yet given because Jesuswas not yet glorified. God at this time, placed His

Spirit upon certain “Holy men of God,” usedto bring His purposes to pass.

Proverbs 1 Verse 23 “Turn you at my reproof:

behold, I will pour out my spirit untoyou, I will make known My Words unto you.”

The Lord Jesus Himself stated in ...

Luke 4 Verse 18(a)“The Spirit of The Lord [is] upon Me, because Hehath Anointed Me ...”

When Jesus ascended to be with The Father, the words of prophecy in, Ezekiel 36 Verses 26-27,were fulfilled later, on the day of Pentecost ...

Ezekiel 36 Verses 26-27 “A new heart also will Igive you, and a new spirit will I put within you: and Iwill take away the stony heart out of your flesh, andI will give you an heart of flesh.”

Page 25: “The Laying on of Hands. - menorah publications...“The Laying on of Hands.” Hands speak of service or ministry, the hands are for giving. Webster defines “giving our hands,”as

(27) “And I will put My Spirit within you, and causeyou to walk in My Statutes, and ye shall keep MyJudgments, and do [them].”

Also, the prophecy of Joel 2 Verses 28-32stated,

“I will pour out My Spirit upon all flesh.”

Please correct me if I am wrong, but Scripture

does say “ALL FLESH,” does it not?

Joel 2 Verses 28-32 “And it shall come to pass

afterward, [that] I will pour out My Spiritupon all flesh; and your sons and yourdaughters shall prophesy, your old men shall dreamdreams, your young men shall see visions:”(29) “And also upon the servants and upon the

handmaids in those days will I pour outMy Spirit.” (30) “And I will shew wonders in theHeavens and in the earth, blood, and fire, andpillars of smoke.” (31) “The sun shall be turned intodarkness, and the moon into blood, before the greatand the terrible day of The LORD come.”

(32) “And it shall come to pass, [that]whosoever shall call on The Nameof The LORD shall be delivered: for inmount Zion and in Jerusalem shall be deliverance,

as The LORD hath said, and in theremnant whom The LORD shallcall.”

This is the Resurrection Power, imparting theLife of the Glorified Christ to the believer. The Holy

Spirit poured out on all mankind, and

infilling the believer ...“the treasureof God, in earthen vessels!”

Outwardly, the invisible but absolutely realpresence and power of the Holy Spirit come downfrom above upon the believer and completelysurrounding or enveloping and immersing him.

Inwardly, the believer, in the likenessof one drinking, receives thepresence and the power of the HolyGhost within himself.

Page 27: “The Laying on of Hands. - menorah publications...“The Laying on of Hands.” Hands speak of service or ministry, the hands are for giving. Webster defines “giving our hands,”as

The Holy Ghost thus received, inturn, wells up within the believerand flows forth like a river fromwithin the innermost depths of hisbeing.

John 7 Verses 38-39 “He that believeth on Me, asthe scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flowRivers of Living Water.” (39) “(But this spake he ofThe Spirit, which they that believe on Him shouldreceive: for The Holy Ghost was not yet [given];because that Jesus was not yet Glorified.)”

Acts 2 Verses 1-4 “And when the day of Pentecostwas fully come, they were all with one accord in oneplace.” (2) “And suddenly there came a sound fromHeaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled allthe house where they were sitting.”(3) “And there appeared unto them cloven tongueslike as of fire, and it sat upon each of them.”(4) “And they were all filled with The Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as theSpirit gave them utterance.”

Acts 11 Verses 15-16 “And as I began to speak,The Holy Ghost fell on them, as on us at thebeginning.” (16) “Then remembered I The Word ofThe Lord, how that he said, John indeed baptizedwith water; but ye shall be baptized with The HolyGhost.”

People seeking this experience wereministered to by other believers through the layingon of hands. In Samaria, the apostles Peter andJohn laid hands on the new converts and prayed for

them that “through laying on of theapostles hands the Holy Ghost wasgiven.” (distinctions mine)

Acts 8 Verses 14-17 “Now when the apostles whichwere at Jerusalem heard that Samaria had receivedthe word of God, they sent unto them Peter andJohn:” (15) “Who, when they were come down, prayed for them, that they might receive The Holy

Ghost:” (16) “(For as yet he was fallenupon none of them: only they werebaptized in The Name of The LordJesus.)” (17) “Then laid they [their]hands on them, and they receivedThe Holy Ghost.”

Certainly, this is not the only way in whichpeople may receive the baptism in The Holy Spirit. In the Upper Room in Jerusalem, and in the houseof Cornelius, people received directly withoutanyone laying hands upon them.

Page 29: “The Laying on of Hands. - menorah publications...“The Laying on of Hands.” Hands speak of service or ministry, the hands are for giving. Webster defines “giving our hands,”as

However, on the basis of all scripture, we may

say that it is both normal and scripturalfor those seeking the baptism of theHoly Ghost to be ministered to byother believers through, “the layingon of hands and prayer.”

It is sometimes suggested that it was only theapostles or special officers of the Church who wereable to exercise this ministry of laying on of handsupon other believers that they might be filled withthe Holy Ghost. This is not supported by scripture!

Suffice to say, “a man with anexperience, is never at the mercy ofa man with an argument!

In Acts 9 Verse 10, Ananias, who laid hands forthis purpose (according to The Word of The Lord)on Saul of Tarsus in the city of Damascus, is

described merely as “a certain disciple.”

There is no suggestion that he held any special

office or ministry in the Church, he wasdirected by God Himself! Yes, to thesurprise of some, God does moveon other people too!

Acts 9 Verses 10-18 “And there was acertain disciple at Damascus, named

Ananias coming in, and putting [his] handon him, that he might receive hissight.” (13) “Then Ananias answered, Lord, Ihave heard by many of this man, how much evil hehath done to thy saints at Jerusalem:”(14) “And here he hath authority from the chiefpriests to bind all that call on thy name.”

(15) “But The Lord said unto him, Gothy way: for he is a chosen vessel unto me, to bearMy Name before the Gentiles, and kings, and the

children of Israel:” (16) “For I will shew himhow great things he must suffer for My Name’ssake.”

“The Hand of The Lord on Saul ofTarsus.”

Here we observe, the directintervention of The Lord in a vision; The Lord speaking directly toAnanias, and Ananias’ response, toThe Word of The Lord .

Acts 9 Verses 10-11 “And there was acertain disciple at Damascus, named

Ananias; and to him said The Lord in avision, Ananias. And he said, Behold, I [am here],

Lord.” (11) “And The Lord [said] untohim, Arise, and go into the street which is calledStraight, and enquire in the house of Judas for [one]called Saul, of Tarsus: for, behold, he prayeth,”

Paul at prayer, and The Lord’s response in a

vision with the promise of healing through “thelaying on of hands.”

You might notice, that The Lord spoke to bothAnanias and Saul of Tarsus: The Lord establishedHis Own Word confirmed in two sources at thesame time. Here we see a direct and specific wordof instruction to two sources concerning the samecoming event!

Acts 9 Verses 11-12 “And the Lord [said]unto him, Arise, and go into the streetwhich is called Straight, and enquire in the house ofJudas for [one] called Saul, of Tarsus: for, behold,he prayeth,”

Page 33: “The Laying on of Hands. - menorah publications...“The Laying on of Hands.” Hands speak of service or ministry, the hands are for giving. Webster defines “giving our hands,”as

(12) “And hath seen in a vision aman named Ananias coming in, andputting [his] hand on him, that hemight receive his sight.”

In this, The Lord brings to Ananias, adeclaration, that Paul was a chosen vessel, setaside for service.

Acts 9 Verse 15 “But The Lord said untohim, Go thy way: for he is a chosenvessel unto me, to bear my namebefore the Gentiles, and kings, and the children ofIsrael:”

That is, Divine intervention, todeclare verbally the revelation ofJesus Christ by Paul.

Acts 9 Verse 16 “For I will shew him how greatthings he must suffer for My Name’s sake.”

“The laying on of hands.”

To ... “receive healing.”To ... “receive The Holy Ghost.”

Acts 9 Verse 17 “And Ananias went his way, and

entered into the house; and putting hishands on him said, Brother Saul, the Lord, [even] Jesus, thatappeared unto thee in the way asthou camest, hath sent me, thatthou mightest receive thy sight, andbe filled with the Holy Ghost.”

To … “preach Christ in the enablingof The Holy Ghost.”

Acts 9 Verse 20 “And straightway hepreached Christ in the synagogues, that Heis The Son of God.”

In this case, both physical healing and thebaptism in The Holy Spirit were ministered to Saulby Ananias through direct response to The Word ofThe Lord.

Page 35: “The Laying on of Hands. - menorah publications...“The Laying on of Hands.” Hands speak of service or ministry, the hands are for giving. Webster defines “giving our hands,”as

35

A move of sovereign intervention, through theone ordinance of laying on of hands. Ananias, directed by God Himself, to lay hands upon the onewho was destined to become the great apostle ofthe Gentiles, Saint Paul.

This is in line with what Jesus Himself says,

Mark 16 Verses 17-18 “And these signsshall follow them that believe; In MyName shall they cast out devils; they shallspeak with new tongues;” (18) “They shall take upserpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall

not hurt them; they shall lay hands onthe sick, and they shall recover.”

Here, Jesus joins closely together, the twosupernatural signs of speaking with new (or other)tongues and of laying hands upon the sick forhealing.

By this, we see that The Lord did work withthem, confirming His Word (The Word) with signsand wonders following.

Acts 4 Verse 30 “By stretching forth thinehand to heal; and that signs and wonders may bedone by the name of Thy Holy child Jesus.”

Page 36: “The Laying on of Hands. - menorah publications...“The Laying on of Hands.” Hands speak of service or ministry, the hands are for giving. Webster defines “giving our hands,”as

Let us remember that whatever man may do,

all he can do is “to do whatever God’shand and God’s plan hadpredestined to take place.”

Daniel 4 Verse 35 “And all the inhabitants of theearth [are] reputed as nothing: and he doethaccording to his will in the army of Heaven, and[among] the inhabitants of the earth: and none canstay His Hand, or say unto Him, What doest thou?”

The Lord Jesus Christ says that both thesesigns alike shall follow or accompany the testimony

of “them that believe.” That is to say, theexercise of these supernatural signs is not confinedto any special class of believers or

“the selective elective” but is it open to

“the who-so-ever will, that is ...

to ALL THAT BELIEVE.”

Acts 4 Verses 31-33 “And when they had prayed,

the place was shaken where ... they wereassembled together; ... and theywere all filled with The Holy Ghost, and they spake The word of Godwith boldness.”

Page 37: “The Laying on of Hands. - menorah publications...“The Laying on of Hands.” Hands speak of service or ministry, the hands are for giving. Webster defines “giving our hands,”as

(32) “And the multitude of them ...that ... believed were of one heart ...and ... of one soul: ... neither said any [ofthem] that ought of the things which he possessed

was his own; but they had all thingscommon.” (33) “And with great power gavethe apostles witness of the resurrection of The LordJesus: and Great Grace was upon them all.”

Healing, by ...“the Laying on of Hands.”

New Testament results can be achieved only

by New Testament methods! In the laying onof hands, Jesus was impartingboth “Life, Virtue and Blessing”through “His Word and The Touchof His Hand.”

Acts 10 Verse 38 “How God Anointed Jesus ofNazareth with The Holy Ghost and with power: whowent about doing good, and healing all that wereoppressed of the devil; for God was with Him.”

Page 38: “The Laying on of Hands. - menorah publications...“The Laying on of Hands.” Hands speak of service or ministry, the hands are for giving. Webster defines “giving our hands,”as

Jesus imparted healing by His touch ...

Mark 5 Verse 23 “And besought Him greatly, saying, My little daughter lieth at the point of death:

[I pray thee], come and lay thyhands on her, that she may behealed; and she shall live.”

Mark 7 Verse 32 “And they bring unto Him one thatwas deaf, and had an impediment in his speech;

and they beseech Him to put HisHand upon him.”

Luke 6 Verse 19 “And the whole multitude

sought to touch Him: for there wentVirtue out of Him, and healed[them] all.”

Just as Jesus imparted life by His hands, healing and wholeness, so too did He pass thisministry on to His disciples. He has chosen us to beHis hands, to be His vessels to impart healing byHis touch through us ... today.

“ … for there went Virtue out ofHim,”

Page 39: “The Laying on of Hands. - menorah publications...“The Laying on of Hands.” Hands speak of service or ministry, the hands are for giving. Webster defines “giving our hands,”as

39

The Hebrew word for “Virtue,” is the word,

“Chayil,” (2428) which means, the poweror substance required to achieveeither healing, strength or the ability… to do!

If you think for a moment of the woman whowanted healing and reached out to touch just thehem of Jesus’ garment. I think that I am somewhat

starting to get the picture. It is Him, not thetouch by the person, neither is it the cloak, or the

garments hem … it’s Jesus Himself!!!

In the Greek, the word for “Virtue,” is

“agathosune” pronounced as

“ag-ath-o-soo-nay,” and is referred to as

“benefactor” or “the one whosupports.”

Further, the rendering, relates very strongly to

the word “goodness,” and “goodness,”we know, is a Fruit of The Nature andThe Character of The Man ChristJesus.

Page 40: “The Laying on of Hands. - menorah publications...“The Laying on of Hands.” Hands speak of service or ministry, the hands are for giving. Webster defines “giving our hands,”as

It is, a Fruit of The Holy Spirit. Again, we read,

Acts 10 Verse 38 “How God Anointed Jesus ofNazareth with The Holy Ghost and with power: who

went about doing good, and healing allthat were oppressed of the devil; for God waswith Him.”

In passing on healing, the apostles were acting

as stewards of God under authority, givingwhat they had been given for thispurpose. For the utmost benefit, ofthose around both them, and us forthat.

Acts 5 Verse 12(a) “And by the hands ofthe apostles were many signs and wonderswrought among the people; ...”

41

The early Church practiced “layingon of hands” for healing,

1) By hand ...

Acts 9 Verses 10-17 “And there was a certaindisciple at Damascus, named Ananias; and tohim said The Lord in a vision, Ananias. And he said,Behold, I [am here], Lord.” (11) “And The Lord [said]unto him, Arise, and go into the street which iscalled Straight, and enquire in the house of Judasfor [one] called Saul, of Tarsus: for, behold, heprayeth,” (12) “And hath seen in a vision a man

named Ananias coming in, and putting [his]hand on him, that he might receivehis sight.” (13) “Then Ananias answered, Lord,I have heard by many of this man, how much evil hehath done to thy saints at Jerusalem:”(14) “And here he hath authority from the chiefpriests to bind all that call on thy name.”(15) “But The Lord said unto him, Go thy way: for heis a chosen vessel unto Me, to bear My Namebefore the Gentiles, and kings, and the children ofIsrael:” (16) “For I will shew him how great things hemust suffer for My Name’s sake.”

(17) “And Ananias went his way, and entered into

the house; and putting his hands onhim said, Brother Saul, the Lord, [even]Jesus, that appeared unto thee in the way as

thou camest, hath sent me, that thoumightest receive thy sight, and befilled with the Holy Ghost.”

2) By hand and oil.

James 5 Verses 13-16 “Is any among you afflicted?let him pray. Is any merry? let him sing psalms.”(14) “Is any sick among you? let him call for theelders of the church; and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in The Name of The Lord:”

(15) “And the prayer of Faith shallsave the sick, and The Lord shallraise him up; and if he havecommitted sins, they shall beforgiven him.” (16) “Confess [your] faults one

to another, and pray one for another, that yemay be healed. The effectual fervent prayerof a righteous man availeth much.”

Page 43: “The Laying on of Hands. - menorah publications...“The Laying on of Hands.” Hands speak of service or ministry, the hands are for giving. Webster defines “giving our hands,”as

43

Mark 6 Verse 13 “And they cast out many devils,

and anointed with oil many that weresick, and healed [them].”

3) By anointing cloths.

Acts 19 Verses 11-12 “And God wrought special

miracles by the hands of Paul:”(12) “So that from his body were brought unto thesick handkerchiefs or aprons, and the diseasesdeparted from them, and the evil spirits went out ofthem.”

The laying on of hands in the Name of Jesus isappointed as a means whereby physical healingmay be ministered to those who are sick. NewTestament problems required the touch of TheAuthor and Finisher of our Faith, The Hand of TheLord Jesus Christ … Himself.

Exodus 15 Verse 26(b)

“... I [AM] The LORDthat healeth thee.”

The Church, the Body of Christ, is the activevessel on the earth today to impart that selfsamehealing virtue, under the guidance and unctioning ofthe Holy Ghost.

Page 44: “The Laying on of Hands. - menorah publications...“The Laying on of Hands.” Hands speak of service or ministry, the hands are for giving. Webster defines “giving our hands,”as

44

Both these ordinances, are practical functionsand as such are to be administered naturally, not as

a religious exercise. “The laying on ofhands and the anointing with oil,” areaccompanied by the prayer of Faith.

It’s The Lord Jesus Christ whodoes the healing ...

James 5 Verse 16 “Confess [your] faults one toanother, and pray one for another, that ye may behealed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteousman availeth much.”

Elsewhere, it is written that prayer coversa multitude of sins.

Proverbs 28 Verse 13 “He that covereth his sins

shall not prosper: but whoso confessethand forsaketh [them] shall havemercy.”

In most cases, it would be natural to pray forthe sick person, as well as laying on of hands.

Page 45: “The Laying on of Hands. - menorah publications...“The Laying on of Hands.” Hands speak of service or ministry, the hands are for giving. Webster defines “giving our hands,”as

45

This ordinance contains two lessons,

Firstly, God expects every Christian ... afflicted, toseek Him first for healing.

It is absolutely necessary andproper, for any professingChristian who is sick to seekprayer and or medical aid. Lukehimself practised the benefits ofmedical aid to those around him.

And just like the GoodSamaritian, there are times tocleanse the wounds of life, withthe antiseptic qualities of wineand the healing touch ofsoothing olive oil:

Secondly, God plainly expects that we shall beassociated with our Church fellowship in committedrelationship. Relational response to the Love of ourSaviour, the Lord Jesus Christ made manifest in thefellowship of the Brethren. In this, the leaders of thechurch, ready to minister in Faith, according toscripture, to the physical needs of their churchmembers.

Page 46: “The Laying on of Hands. - menorah publications...“The Laying on of Hands.” Hands speak of service or ministry, the hands are for giving. Webster defines “giving our hands,”as

46

Every Christian associated in such a way, thatit’s leaders both know him and are known to him.And both care, and support to meet each othersneeds.

The third person of the Godhead, The HolySpirit, who imparts Divine life into the life of thebeliever, is typified by the placing of the oil foranointing upon the body. The Holy Ghost, typifiedby the oil, who actually administrates the work ofhealing.

To summarise this section, we return to thewords of ...

Mark 16 Verses 15-20 “And he said unto them, Goye into all the world, and preach The Gospel toevery creature.” (16) “He that believeth and isbaptized shall be saved; but he that believeth notshall be damned.” (17) “And these signs shall followthem that believe; In My Name shall they cast outdevils; they shall speak with new tongues;”(18) “They shall take up serpents; and if they drinkany deadly thing, it shall not hurt them;

they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover.”(19) “So then after The Lord had spoken unto them,He was received up into Heaven, and sat on TheRight Hand of God.”

Page 47: “The Laying on of Hands. - menorah publications...“The Laying on of Hands.” Hands speak of service or ministry, the hands are for giving. Webster defines “giving our hands,”as

(20) “And they went forth, and preached every

where, The Lord working with [them],and confirming the word with signsfollowing. Amen.”

Jesus declares the five supernatural signs, ending with the healing of the sick through thelaying on of hands. Intended by God to beartestimony to The Divine Truth and Authority of TheGospel message, especially in places where TheTruth has not been previously heard or believed!

1) God’s Message of “Salvation,”“The Gospel.”

2) “ … In My Name shall

they cast out devils;”

3) “ … they shall speak withnew tongues;”

4) “ … any deadly thing, it shall not hurtthem;”(in all practicality, whether we live ordie, we are The Lord’s.)

5) “ … they shall lay hands on thesick, and they shall recover.”

Romans 14 Verses 7-9 “For none of us liveth tohimself, and no man dieth to himself.”(8) “For whether we live, we live unto The Lord; andwhether we die, we die unto The Lord: whether welive therefore, or die, we are The Lord’s.(9) “For to this end Christ both died, and rose, andrevived, that he might be Lord both of the dead andliving.”

“Impartation of Gifts” ...The Ministries of The Holy Spirit.

There are very many in the traditional circles of

“religion” that choose to ignore the sixteenthchapter of Mark’s Gospel. Saying that it never

appeared in the “original manuscripts.”To which I just wish to add that if you remove this, you remove the very heart of The Gospel, thefunction of His Right Hand! Dare you?

1 Corinthians 12 Verse 6 “And there are diversitiesof operations, but it is the same God which workethall in all.”

1 Corinthians 12 Verse 11 “But all these workeththat one and the selfsame Spirit, dividing to everyman severally as He will.”

Page 49: “The Laying on of Hands. - menorah publications...“The Laying on of Hands.” Hands speak of service or ministry, the hands are for giving. Webster defines “giving our hands,”as

49

In the last section, we discussed the gift of

Divine healing made manifest through,“the laying on of hands.”

1 Corinthians 12 Verses 4-11 “Now there arediversities of gifts, but the same Spirit.”(5) “And there are differences of administrations, but the same Lord.” (6) “And there are diversities ofoperations, but it is the same God which worketh allin all.” (7) “But the manifestation of the Spirit isgiven to every man to profit withal.” (8) “For to oneis given by the Spirit the word of wisdom; to anotherthe word of knowledge by the same Spirit;” (9) “To

another faith by the same Spirit; to another thegifts of healing by the same Spirit;”(10) “To another the working of miracles; to anotherprophecy; to another discerning of spirits; to another[divers] kinds of tongues; to another theinterpretation of tongues:” (11) “But all theseworketh that one and the selfsame Spirit, dividing toevery man severally as he will.”

The ministry gifts are direct manifestations fromGod given through the Holy Ghost. They are usedto glorify God and to build up and edify the Body ofChrist the Church. The preaching of the Gospel is tobe followed by the manifestation of some or all ofthese gifts. They have been referred to as thecredentials of the believer.

Page 50: “The Laying on of Hands. - menorah publications...“The Laying on of Hands.” Hands speak of service or ministry, the hands are for giving. Webster defines “giving our hands,”as

50

The Gifts of The Holy Spirit fall into threecategories,

“Gifts of Revelation, Inspiration and Impartation.”

“The word of Wisdom.” Also known as“The word of Knowledge.” “Gifts of“The discerning of spirits.” Revelation.”

“Prophecy.” These three are also“The gift of Tongues.” known as “Interpretationof Tongues.” “vocal Gifts”

or “Gifts ofInspiration.”

“Faith.” These three are also are“Healing.” known as Gifts of“The working of miracles.” “Impartation.” or

“power Gifts.”

Wherever there is a genuine gift or ministry, there will be a demand for recognised ministry.

Proverbs 18 Verse 16“A man’s gift maketh room for him,and bringeth him before great men.”

It will happen, because the Gifts and theCallings of God, are without repentance ... in otherwords, every good and perfect gift cometh downfrom The Father of Lights.

Page 51: “The Laying on of Hands. - menorah publications...“The Laying on of Hands.” Hands speak of service or ministry, the hands are for giving. Webster defines “giving our hands,”as

51

It is the responsibility of thevessel, to maintain its level ofcleanliness.

Exercise of the laying on of hands by the eldersis commonly associated with the exercise of the gift

of prophecy. It is necessary to establishthat there is scriptural authority forone believer imparting spiritual giftsto others.

Romans 1 Verse 11 “For I long to see you, that Imay impart unto you some spiritual gift, to the endye may be established;”

Establishing or strengthening them in theirFaith and spiritual experience.

Romans 1 Verse 12 “That is, that I may becomforted together with you by the mutual Faithboth of you and me.”

The free operation of spiritual gifts within acongregation enables the various members

to comfort, to encourage and tostrengthen one another.

Page 52: “The Laying on of Hands. - menorah publications...“The Laying on of Hands.” Hands speak of service or ministry, the hands are for giving. Webster defines “giving our hands,”as

52

Enabling the mutual ministry of the variousmembers to each other under the guidance of

church oversight, who are governed by“the watch-care of the Holy Ghost.”

This also comes with obviouswarning and caution. You don’tjust allow anybody to walk up to youand lay hands on you! God cannotuse men with bloodied hands, people who are not at peace withtheir fellow man and at variancethrough sin, with God.

If we are not in the right placewith The Lord, there is thatimpartation ... “Input brings output!”

1 Timothy 5 Verse 22

“Lay hands suddenly on no man, neither be partaker of other men’ssins: keep thyself pure.”

Page 53: “The Laying on of Hands. - menorah publications...“The Laying on of Hands.” Hands speak of service or ministry, the hands are for giving. Webster defines “giving our hands,”as

1 Corinthians 1 Verses 4-8 “I thank my God alwayson your behalf, for The Grace of God which is givenyou by Jesus Christ;” (5) “That in everything ye areenriched by Him, in all utterance, and [in] allknowledge;” (6) “Even as the testimony of Christ

was confirmed in you:” (7) “So that ye comebehind in no gift; waiting for thecoming of our Lord Jesus Christ:”(8) “Who shall also confirm you untothe end, [that ye may be] blamelessin the day of our Lord Jesus Christ.”

God desires, that we be enriched with allspiritual gifts but, the apostle Paul particularly,

specifies “the gifts of utterance and ofknowledge.”

Two results which follow in the church at Corinthare that the testimony of Christ is confirmedamongst them and they themselves areconsolidated and strengthened through theoperation of these gifts. It is the revealed purpose ofGod that these (all the gifts,) shall continue tooperate in the Christian Church right up to thepersonal return of The Lord Jesus Christ for HisChurch. The Church, complete, or blameless, fullyequipped with all the supernatural gifts.

Page 54: “The Laying on of Hands. - menorah publications...“The Laying on of Hands.” Hands speak of service or ministry, the hands are for giving. Webster defines “giving our hands,”as

The apostle Paul refers to his own co-workerTimothy,

1 Timothy 4 Verse 14

“Neglect not the gift that is in thee, which was given thee by prophecy, with the laying on of the hands ofthe presbytery.” (distinctions mine)

2 Timothy 1 Verse 6 “Wherefore I put thee inremembrance that thou stir up theGift of God, which is in thee by theputting on of my hands.”

1 Timothy 1 Verse 18

“This charge I commit unto thee, sonTimothy, according to the prophecies which went

before on thee, that thou by themmightest war a good warfare;”

“This charge I commit unto thee ... ”

A charge is more than a challenge, it is also astimulation of the inner man as spiritual authorityhas been imparted. There has been a stirring up ofareas of previously untapped potential, ability andenabling.

Deuteronomy 34 Verse 9 “And Joshua the son of

Nun was full of The Spirit of Wisdom; forMoses had laid his hands upon him:and the children of Israel hearkened untohim, and did as The LORDcommanded Moses.”

You cannot give, what youhave not received, you can onlytouch people for God, to thedegree that you ... yourselves, are “touching God!”

The one receiving such a charge, finds he is nolonger acting on his own, and finds God is with himin such a marked way, that others respond to hisleadership. The impartation has added weight andsignificance to his words.

People are set apart to specific areas of

ministry (and ministries) working with God,the elders through the laying on of hands, seesthem being prayed for, into God-ordained positions.

Acts 6 Verse 6 “Whom they set before the apostles:and when they had prayed, they laid [their] handson them.”

Page 56: “The Laying on of Hands. - menorah publications...“The Laying on of Hands.” Hands speak of service or ministry, the hands are for giving. Webster defines “giving our hands,”as

You cannot give what you don’thave ... Those set aside for theservice of God are obviouslyempowered by The Holy Spirit andoperate in The Gifts of The HolySpirit.

God uses the Creative Word, along with the

“Laying on of hands,” to bring about Hisdesired purposes at a specific time.

The impartation that occurs, can at times occurwith an accompanying prophetic utterance. When

impartation takes place, you know about it... without a shadow of a doubt!

“Something very real,has taken place!”

“The ordination of Deacons.”

The conferring of an office or ministryassignment according to God’s Word, the same

means, “to direct,” “to encourage” and

“to strengthen.” These same means are stillavailable today to God’s people and especiallyGod’s appointed ministers.

John 15 Verse 16 “Ye have not chosen me, but

I have chosen you, and ordainedyou, that ye should go and bringforth fruit, and [that] your fruitshould remain: that whatsoever ye shall askof the Father in my name, he may give it you.”

God’s callings were determined before birth butat some point in time, he communicates this to us.

“Faith comes through hearing” ...His Word Creates receptivity withinus, provides substance for ourFaith, enables us to aim in aspecific direction of fulfilment.

It is God’s Will for us to know what He wants usto do ... this comes, through

“Prophecy and the layingon of hands.”

Ephesians 1 Verse 18(a)

“The eyes of your understandingbeing enlightened;that ye may know what is the hopeof his calling, ...”

God places ministers of His Grace over us toshare God’s Purposes for us. They must approveour calling and readiness to serve in that capacity.God often gives direction by Word of Knowledge.

In the New Testament, overseers gatheredtogether for the purpose of laying hands on people, and to prophesy in order to establish people in theirministries. Plurality of leadership gives cleardirection. The word must be judged.

1 Corinthians 14 Verse 29

“Let the prophets speak two or three, and let the other judge.”

The New Testament does notgive license to every believer toprophesy over others in the realmof direction, the procedure forappointing deacons is outlined in,

Acts 6 Verses 3-6 “Wherefore, brethren, look ye outamong you seven men of honest report, full of theHoly Ghost and wisdom, whom we may appoint

over this business.” (4) “But we will giveourselves continually to prayer, andto the ministry of the word.”(5) “And the saying pleased the wholemultitude: and they chose Stephen, a man fullof faith and of the Holy Ghost, and Philip, andProchorus, and Nicanor, and Timon, and Parmenas, and Nicolas a proselyte of Antioch:”

Acts 6 Verse 8

“And Stephen, full of Faith andPower, did great wonders andmiracles among the people.”

Acts 6 Verse 10

“And they were not able to resistThe Wisdom and The Spirit bywhich he spake.”

With the commissioning of specially calledChristian workers, the spiritual leaders of God’speople are called upon to set a public example ofwaiting upon God with prayer and fasting.

Acts 13 Verses 2-3 “As they ministered to The Lord, and fasted, the Holy Ghost said, Separate meBarnabas and Saul for the work whereunto I havecalled them.”

(3) “And when they had fasted andprayed, and laid [their] hands onthem, they sent [them] away.”

First they set aside further time for fasting andprayer, the Church leaders claimed for them thespecial spiritual Wisdom, Grace and Power whichthey would need for the successful accomplishmentof their God-given task.

Acts 13 Verse 4 “So they, being sentforth by the Holy Ghost, departed untoSeleucia; and from thence they sailed to Cyprus.”

The church at Antioch with its leaders were thehuman instruments by which God revealed andworked out His will for sending forth these twomissionaries.

In the final analysis, it was He, The Holy SpiritHimself, as the executive agent of the Godhead, who was responsible for the commissioning andsending forth of these two missionaries, a perfectexample of Divine and human co-operation ... Godand His church working together as partnerstogether.

The outcome of this first missionary journey ofPaul and Barnabas, thus entered into by thedirection of the Holy Spirit, with prayer and with the

ordinance of “laying on of hands.”

Acts 14 Verse 27 “And when they were come, andhad gathered the church together, they rehearsedall that God had done with them, and how he hadopened the door of Faith unto the Gentiles.”

The scriptures state that “they fulfilledtheir God-given work.”

God’s callings are God’s enablings.

Remember back to Paul’s conversion, whenThe Lord spoke to Ananias and The Lord told himthat Paul was a chosen vessel unto Himself.

Acts 9 Verse 15 “But The Lord said unto him, Gothy way: for he is a chosen vessel unto Me, to bearMy Name ... before the Gentiles, and kings, and thechildren of Israel:”

When God calls a man to a task,it is God who enables thesuccessful accomplishment of thattask. Wherever they went, theyfound that God had gone beforethem, to open the doors and toprepare the hearts.

The power thus generated byprayer and fasting was madeavailable to Paul and Barnabasaccording to the needs that laybefore them, through the ordinanceof “laying on of hands.”

Summary,

“The Watch-Care ofThe Holy Spirit.”

The Greek word “Logos” means the Living

Word. In the context of prayer and “the layingon of hands, what you put in, iswhat you give out!”

Everything characteristic of ourmake-up, can be imparted by thelaying on of hands.

The ministry of “laying on of hands”to impart God’s Blessing and Gifts and strength to

the believer, is not for the novice!

It is possible to be a blessing (ora curse) to other people. “Thelaying on of hands,” is a blessedministry and with it comes muchresponsibility.

God cannot use men withbloodied hands, people who are notat peace with their fellow man andat variance through sin, with God. Ifwe are not right, there is thatimpartation ... “Input brings output!”

1 Timothy 5 Verse 22

“Lay hands suddenly on no man, neither be partaker of other men’ssins: keep thyself pure.”

The apostle Paul joins together three distinctwarnings.

1) “Lay hands suddenly on no man.”

2) “Be not partaker of othermen’s sins.”

3) “Keep thyself pure.”

Page 66: “The Laying on of Hands. - menorah publications...“The Laying on of Hands.” Hands speak of service or ministry, the hands are for giving. Webster defines “giving our hands,”as

In all cases, however, the ordinance of

“laying on of hands” should always beexercised in a humble and prayerful spirit,

subject to the leading of the HolySpirit and to the scripturalsafeguards indicated by The Wordof God, under the covering of Godordained oversight.

Where “laying on of hands” is

intended, it should be preceded preferablyby prayer and fasting.

Acts 13 Verse 2 “As they ministered to The Lord, and fasted, The Holy Ghost said, Separate meBarnabas and Saul for the work whereunto I havecalled them.”

Furthermore, prophecies must be judged byelders for confirmation as to whether it be of man orof God. The believer who lays on hands must knowhow to claim, on behalf of his own spirit, thecontinual purifying and protecting power of TheBlood of Christ.

Page 67: “The Laying on of Hands. - menorah publications...“The Laying on of Hands.” Hands speak of service or ministry, the hands are for giving. Webster defines “giving our hands,”as

He must also be so empowered by The HolySpirit, that he is able to overcome any kind of evilinfluence, seeking to work in or through the oneupon whom hands are laid.

Be sure the person is asking for the rightmotives!

Acts 8 Verses 18-19 “And when Simon saw thatthrough laying on of the apostles’ hands the HolyGhost was given, he offered them money,”(19) “Saying, Give me also this power, that onwhomsoever I lay hands, he may receive The HolyGhost.”

Simon the magician, seeking to buy the gifts. Inthis contact between two spirits, there is always thepossibility of spiritual harm, resulting to one or boththe believers concerned if the spirit of one believeris not altogether pure.

Psalm 24 Verses 3-4 “Who shall ascend into the hillof The LORD? or who shall stand in His HolyPlace?” (4) “He that hath clean hands, and a pureheart; who hath not lifted up his soul unto vanity, norsworn deceitfully.”

We must learn to co-operate with The HolySpirit as He works through us to accomplish His

purposes. “The laying on of hands” mayconfirm God’s calling upon an individual.

It releases him to function with confidence, stimulates Faith by opening up new areas andavenues of revelation. It will, by the unctioning ofThe Holy Spirit, stir up resident gifts into activeoperation.

Even so, there is notsupposed, that it is a substitutefor personal growth, discipline, submission or Faith and service.

“Love is not a feeling, it is an actof the will.” It is not a sign ofspiritual maturity for us to sit aroundand wait for “the laying on of hands”before beginning to serve the Lord!

- We must totally give ourselves.

1 Timothy 4 Verse 15 “Meditate upon these things;give thyself wholly to them; that thy profiting mayappear to all.”

- We must study.

1 Timothy 4 Verse 13 “Till I come, give attendanceto reading, to exhortation, to doctrine.”

Page 69: “The Laying on of Hands. - menorah publications...“The Laying on of Hands.” Hands speak of service or ministry, the hands are for giving. Webster defines “giving our hands,”as

- We must discipline ourselves.

1 Timothy 4 Verse 16 “Take heed unto thyself, andunto the doctrine; continue in them: for in doing thisthou shalt both save thyself, and them that hearthee.”

- We must stir up the gift.

2 Timothy 1 Verses 6-7 “Wherefore I put thee inremembrance that thou stir up the gift of God, whichis in thee by the putting on of my hands.”(7) “For God hath not given us the spirit of fear;

but of Power, and of Love, and of asound mind.”

Our third in the Discipleship series, is

“Discipleship that Overcomes,”

And is titled,

That ye might be ... “partakers.”

These lessons come from the second letter ofPeter and work well alongside the previous series

entitled, “The Beatitudes” which cover thedevelopment of our Christian Character.

If a man has come to the place of little or nogrowth, then surely, he has remained as a babe. Ifhe has not given himself over to be dealt with byThe Spirit of Grace, then he is marked by the arm ofthe flesh.

He is still a Christian, but a carnal Christian, ababe in Christ. But if he completely surrenders hiswill to The Holy Spirit, he will rapidly and willinglychoose to put down the deeds of the flesh andbecome what God’s Word calls a

“ Spiritual man.”

Series, “The Parables of Christ ...”(Matthew 13 Verses 1-53)

The disciples, they had heardHis first four parables spoken to thelistening crowd ... the multitude.

Jesus did not use parables inthe earlier part of His ministry, andwhen He began to use them, it wasa matter of surprise to his disciples, who asked Him His reason fordoing so.

Matthew 13 Verses 10-13 “And the disciples came,

and said unto Him, Why speakest Thouunto them in parables?”(11) “He answered and said unto them,

Because it is given unto you toknow the mysteries of The Kingdomof Heaven, but to them it is notgiven.”

(12) “For whosoever hath, to himshall be given, and he shall havemore abundance: but whosoeverhath not, from him shall be takenaway even that he hath.”(13) “Therefore speak I to them inparables: because they seeing seenot; and hearing they hear not, neither do they understand.”

The whole thing turns on the distinction

between “earnest inquirers” and

“careless hearers.” The earnest inquirerhas ears to hear; the other has not.

That is, instead of apprehending The Truth, heis only perplexed and confused by it, and instead ofgoing away enriched, he is poorer than ever.

The meaning is so simple and familiar, thateven a child can understand it. Being of the natureto connect with everyday things, things that arefrequently observed.

Parables, are the meal prepared for us by The Lordof The Harvest, He prepares a meal for each of Hislaborers, though they are few, all are well fed.

He has seen to it, that a young lad now bringsto the table,

“Five loaves and two fish!”

This is something for us all towell consider, they had twelvebaskets full, after the crowd wasfed.

Jesus took the twelve, andturned the world inside out, to theright side up!

Many may bring the Scripturesto the mind, but The Lord alone canprepare the mind to receive HisWord: Our Master, our Saviour Jesus differs from

all other teachers ... they may reach theear, but only He can instruct theheart! “Others may teach what is tobe believed, but only Jesus canteach us how to believe!”

Series, “The Gleanings ...”

Not such a strange word really, but a wordwhich is not often used to day. What does it mean

for us “to glean?” In simple terms, it means

“to gather together.”

We gather together that which will draw us

deeper into “Relationship” with our Lord andSaviour Jesus Christ.

We, are gathering and gleaning in the fields of

our kinsman Redeemer King Jesus. “TheGleanings,” was written out of gratitude for myown Salvation, and the way that He my King hasBlessed me by revealing more about Himself astogether we build the Relationship that religioncannot offer!

Many, many Brothers and Sisters in Christ aredesperately hungry and we who feed at His table

have a “duty of care” to share with thosearound us. This is the reason for this series.

To answer questions and have all things in

common ... the basis of “communion,common-union” so enjoy, grow deeper intoJesus Christ and be Blessed.
