Happy Hanukkah, December 21, 2011, Merry Christmas, December 25, 2011, Happy Kwanzaa, December 26-January 1, 2012. It is with great pleasure that Rotary District 7300 announces our District Governor Nominee Designate for the 2014-2015 Rotary Year. Please congratulate Herm Dieckmann, Bethel-St. Clair Rotary Club. Herm, please accept my personal congratu-lations and welcome aboard the district leadership team. I am looking forward to working with you and know it will be a grand celebration of Rotary in Rotary District 7300.

Here we are at the end of another year and half way through another Rotary year. December, to me, always seems like the time that Rotarians really step up to the plate with our giving spirit. During this Christmas season many of our clubs will be ringing the bell for The Salvation Army, regardless of weather conditions. Other clubs will be giving gifts to children from families who can’t afford any this year. Some of our clubs have holiday parties for elderly shut ins at nursing homes or senior living centers. Angel trees for Rotary club gift drives will be put up by Rotarians in stores and businesses all over the district in an effort to make the holiday season a happy one for those less fortunate. Clubs will support food banks so that those who don’t have enough to eat will be able to have a nice holiday dinner. Most clubs will have their own holiday parties where the members and their families celebrate the season and the camaraderie of Rotary. However you and your club celebrate the holidays, they will be far more happier for you as a Rotarian because of what you do all year for others who are less fortunate. Whoever coined the phrase, “It is better to give than to receive,” must have been a Rotarian. Thank you for all you do for Rotary all year long and thank you for your support of The Rotary Foundation (TRF). Your giving to The Rotary Foundation (TRF) allows Rotary to “give” all year long all over the world. What-ever your religion and however you celebrate-Happy Holidays.

ALL Rotary District 7300 Rotary clubs should submit their attendance figures within the first two weeks of each month. This gives your club members the opportunity to attend “make-up meetings” for meetings that were missed during the last two weeks of the previous month.

We all have options in everything that we do. Options abound. Whether they are related to your business, family, hobbies, and yes, even Rotary. What are the membership options for you and your club?

There is an old saying, “Either you grow or you die.” Related to Rotary, I think there are only two options. One option is to do nothing. Yes, you belong to your club and maybe you’re an active member. You get involved in club projects and socials and contribute $100.00 a year to the Rotary International Foundation.

But unless you and your fellow club members commit to mem-bership growth, your club will start a slow decline. Unfortunately there are examples of this in our district.

The other option is to get excited and involved with membership growth.

Your enthusiasm will be contagious. Rotary is a dynamic organization. Let’s all work to keep it that way. Every member of every club must have membership growth as a constant objective. If we all develop this attitude, membership growth will surge. And that’s a good thing.

“Literacy Organizations”

There are a great many national and international literacy organi-zations. If you want to do some research on behalf of your club, here’s a start from a publishing industry blog, GalleyCat,

http://www.mediabistro.com/galleycat/10-charities-that-promote-literacy_b42231

Reading is Fundamental, David Balducci’s Wish You Well Foun-dation, and the Barbara Bush Foundation for Family Literacy are others.

“We Are Rotary Family!”

Family is a tricky word for me. I have my sister and my aunt and my cousins that are my family. I have my wife, Marie and her family that are my family. I have my pets that are closer to me than some of my family. I have my work family, which is pretty little considering I work for myself. I have my family of friends. And, last but not least I have my club P.E.R.C. (Pittsburgh East Rotary Club) and District 7300, my Rotary family.

My Rotary Family is all of you, some of whom I have never met, yet. You are my mechanic, insurance agent, attorney, spiritual advisor, drinking buddy and my wife…all Rotarians, all my family.

Every time you invite a prospective member to come to a meet-ing and eventually become a member you are making our Rotary Family grow.

Why grow our Rotary Family? Simple, because isn’t it fun to meet new people? Share experiences and create new ones? Doesn’t your heart grow when you help others in need be it feeding the homeless, mentoring a student, visiting the elderly? Don’t you want to share that feeling with others?

As we look into the New Year and make our resolutions why not make one of yours to invite someone to a Rotary meeting.

I am blessed to have you as part of my Rotary family and I urge you to invite others to be a part of Rotary.

Rotary Peace Float in Macy’s Holiday Parade: The Rotary float in Macy’s Holiday Parade this year had a great new look. Parade Chairman, Bill Havranek, gave carte blanche to Colleen Mesner, Walt Sickles, Sandra Rebholz and Tracey Dorsch, from Rotary District 7300, to paint and decorate the float. It was a beautiful float, and the weather was perfect for releasing out white doves this year. The float committee looks forward to an even better float next year.

RYLA 2012

We are currently in the process of planning for the RYLA 2012 conference. By now, all

clubs should have received their packet of information on RYLA 2012. We are trying to

make this registration as streamlined as possible. Contact Rick Martin, PDG, RYLA

District Treasurer at [email protected] or Michelle Christie, RYLA District

Secretary at [email protected] or calling 724-846-2488 to reach

either one to discuss the registration process.

There are some major changes this coming year. We are accepting incoming juniors and

seniors to the camp. We are no longer asking the student to pay $125.00 to attend. We are

finalizing commitments from other colleges to award scholarships to the students who

complete the weeklong camp in addition to La Roche College commitment of $5,000 per

year.

We are asking the clubs to financially support the program and nominate students. We

are asking all clubs to financial support this program even if you do not sponsor a

student. Some of our smaller clubs may not be able to financially support one student.

We do not want to denied any student the opportunity of the leadership experience of this

camp. Sheets with important dates to remember, Club RYLA Scholarship Commitment

and RYLA Student Information forms are included in the newsletter.

We hope this process will be less work for you and more efficient overall. It is important

for you to meet the deadlines to secure registration spots for students from your area. We

look forward to working with your club this year to make another successful RYLA

conference!

RYLA, Rotary Youth Leadership Awards, is a weeklong camp for young adults who will be juniors

leaders or potential leaders in their high schools, churches, and/or communities. RYLA affords

these young people an opportunity to come together for what has been called “a life changing

week” to continue to develop leadership skills and strengthen the leader in all of us. Throughout

the week, the campers listen to speakers, participate in activities and projects, socialize, and get

to know one another more personally in small groups throughout the week. This event is an

amazing week in the journey of a leader.

RYLA aims to:

- demonstrate Rotary's respect and concern for youth

- provide an effective training experience for selected youth and potential leaders

- encourage leadership of youth by youth

- recognize publicly young people who are rendering service to their communities

The RYLA curriculum focuses on four areas of leadership development:

1. Personal Development

2. Moral / Ethical Identification

3. Philosophy of Leadership

4. Problem Solving

District 7300’s RYLA program was started in 2009 and follows the program in District 7280 which

was developed a little more than 25 years ago -- only a decade after the program was first

adopted by Rotary International. Stacy Gallagher has been running this program since 1994

and continues the tradition of an exemplary leadership camp that lives on in Districts 7280 and

now 7300. Jackie Jaros joined her as the co-director at the 7280 site in 2002. Together these

ladies have developed the program into what it is today – a program which recognizes and

develops each student’s individual gifts and leadership capabilities.

We want young people of this community to be a part of our leadership journey! We find that

when people with similar values and genuine interest in leadership come together, synergy

results and an unforgettable experience results. We invite you send young leaders to District

7300 RYLA 2012 at La Roche College which will take place June 24-29, 2012.

Hines Ward Joins “This Close” Campaign

District 7300 received exciting news this week when it was announced that Pittsburgh Steeler

star wide receiver Hines Ward has joined Rotary International’s “This Close” campaign.

In the photo, Hines can be seen wearing a t-shirt promoting his latest philanthropic project called

Positive Athlete www.positiveathlete.org which Rotary International is also supporting. Hines is

being joined by Steelers teammate Lawrence Timmons and other high character professional

athletes to promote the benefits of “positivity” to young athletes around the world and here in the

Pittsburgh metro area. The goal is to shape the futures of young athletes for life skills beyond

athletic competition.

The mission of Positive Athlete aligns very well with Rotary’s “Service Above Self” motto and

District 7300 has agreed to support Hines’ program. We are hoping this association will be a

wonderful asset to your clubs and will help you in your efforts to introduce Rotary to prospective

members who are also Steelers fans.

To kick the relationship off, Positive Athlete is offering Rotary Club members the opportunity to

buy Positive Athlete t-shirts (regularly $19.99 on line) for only $12.00 per shirt. If your club is

interested in taking advantage of this opportunity, you can contact Positive Athlete directly at

[email protected]

Other program ideas are under development such as Interact members who are also high school

student-athletes, a sister city program with Rotary Clubs in Japan and South Korea, and much

more. Stay tuned . . .

1) Under Club documents, will there ever be the ability to have folders to organize all the documents? Currently, you have the ability to add folders to the Club Document section. You will need to click the folder/plus icon to add a new folder and click the paper/plus to the right of the folder to add a document.

2) What level do you need to be to active RI Integration? I think I heard Secretary, President, Ex-President, etc. Rotary Integration requires an access level of 30, 40 or 50.

3) When a member logs in at our website - they are automatically redirected to the

Admin page. Is there a way to keep them at the homepage? By design, the login page was programmed to go directly to the admin page. If you

would like to submit a suggestion request, email our team by submitting a ticket to our

Suggestion/Wishlist department: (http://clubrunner.helpserve.com/Tickets/Submit).

4) How does one order entries in home page widgets such as "District Links"?

Not all widgets have a modifiable sequence order. Only the items under the “Website Manager” can be rearranged on their corresponding widget. Examples of this would be the stories and news.

5) In "Download Files" clicking on the URL icon produces no response. Why not? The clipboard icon is intended to copy a URL to your computer so that you can paste it where needed. If the icon is not working, please contact [email protected] so that a member of our team can help determine the issue.

6) Adding image says pictures larger than 1024 will be reduced, but that does not happen for large pictures. I have to edit down to < 3mp and <1024 pixels before it will upload. Feature does not seem to work as suggested. Why? The image resize function is dependent on the size of the image. Files that are 3000 pixels or higher can only be reduced so far by an auto-sizing program. Auto size is intended for images less than twice its original size. Our development team is looking in to improving issue such as these.

7) How do I verify which version of CR software I'm using for District? If your District is using Version 2, then the site would appear to be more dynamic and would contain many more features if compared to a site on Version 1. A site on Version 2 would display a navigation menu with drop down arrows, larger pictures, more widgets on either side of the page, etc. The following are screenshots depicting what a website on Version 1 and Version 2 look like: V2: V1:

8) Any provisions for credit card payment for events? At this time, we are only integrated with Sage (US Customers) and Beanstream (Canadian Customers) for online payment collection, as this is a more integrated method of tracking payments. For information on implementing credit card payments on your site, please visit http://www.clubrunner.ca/ecommerce.

9) How can I enhance the calendar view? The one you have is very basic.

The calendar view has been setup in the style you are currently seeing. Unfortunately, we do not have a function to change the view.

10) How do I link a page with a small story with another page with a bigger story?

To link a page with a small story to another page with a bigger story, you’ll have to copy the small story’s URL. To do so, click on the link to open the smaller story page. Copy the URL from the web browsers address bar. Next, open up the bigger story page from within the ‘Edit Stories’ feature. From within the online editor, type in the text you’d like to setup as the “small story link”. Highlight the text; click Insert Link (Globe and Chain Icon). Paste the URL that you’ve copied earlier into the URL field. Select Open in new window. Click Save to finish.

11) Is there a webinar, or on-line instruction just for clubs to opt in to the CR/RI integration? This would be both for clubs that have ClubRunner as well as for clubs who opt in through the District website? Absolutely! We host shorter webinars on all the different modules found within the ClubRunner platform. For a list of all of our webinars, please visit www.clubrunner.ca/webinar. We also have numerous on-demand tutorials that you can watch at your own pace, which can be found on our Knowledgebase. For more information on the RI Integration, please visit www.clubrunner.ca/integration.

12) When would you want to use a Site Page? Clubs will use a Site Page to create customized pages for their website. Examples of Site Pages are pages such as ‘About Us’, ‘Club History’, ‘Services’, etc.

13) Will this presentation be available to refer to in the future?

This session is not recorded however please feel free to visit some of our recorded demos by visiting our Knowledgebase. A listing of future webinars can also be found by accessing the following link: http://community.clubrunner.ca/webinars. We will be conducting this session again on Thursday, December 15 at 2pm EDT.

14) Is there a way to enter multiple make-ups all at the same time? If we cancel a

meeting because we are having some other kind of function that week, then everyones' make-up info will be exactly the same. I've been entering each members' make-up individually but it would be faster if I could just check off all the members to whom the make-up applies.

Currently, there is no function to enter multiple make-ups at one time. As you’ve

mentioned, they have to be entered individually. For feature requests to ClubRunner,

we recommend for clubs to send us an email to our Suggestions/Wishlist Department:

(http://clubrunner.helpserve.com/Tickets/Submit). Your ticket will be entered into our

system where the feature can be noted by our Development team.

15) I want to organize our club documents more efficiently. When we first started to use

ClubRunner, the person in charge simply loaded documents in one after the other. They're not in any kind of order, and they're all in one big long list, which makes it very frustrating to find a file. I want to set up some files (i.e.: by year) so that we can find any given document more easily.

Webinar Q&A

Page 24: “Service Above Self”“S e rvice A b o ve S e lf” Rotary …...Rotary District 7300 | P.O. Box 44305 | Pittsburgh, PA 15205 | P: (412) 429-7300 | F: (412) 429-7300 “Service

There is a folder feature that you can use to organize your Club Documents. However, at this time files cannot be dragged into a folder in order to re organize the list. The files would have to be re uploaded to the appropriate folder. To add a folder, login to the Admin Page and click on ‘Edit Club Documents’. Click the folder icon on the right. Enter name, descriptions, then click Save. Once the folder is created, you’ll have the option to upload files to the folder.

16) In calculating absenteeism we want to exclude honorary, dead and former members. How can we?

Currently, the attendance feature does not track attendance for honorary, dead, and

former members. If you’d like, kindly send us a Feature Request with more details to our

team by submitting a ticket to our Suggestion/Wishlist department:

17) Can you have an animated banner or a picture slide show?

There is no feature within ClubRunner to add an animated Slideshow. However, you can design and upload an “Animated GIF” from within the Banner Designer. This requires a bit more HTML work. If you’d like to give it a try, kindly send us a detailed ticket to [email protected]. In regards to a picture slideshow, we do have a built in feature within the Photo Albums feature. Once the album is clicked, the “Slideshow” link should display on the left. The slideshow will play all of the photos that are uploaded with the Photo Album.

18) Can the e-bulletin be saved as a printable file such as PDF? On a PC, you can create an archive of past bulletin issues by saving it as a PDF File. Once you have created the bulletin, you can save it using PrimoPDF which you can download from www.primopdf.com. On a Mac, click Command + P to print for the web browser (Safari or Firefox). From there you’ll see the option to save the eBulletin as a PDF file.
