II. Abstract Restructuring of hardware device makers is moving at a faster pace than ever. Amid this,

Xerox Corporation will be put under the helm of Fujifilm Group to create the largest company in the office equipment industry. On the other hand, Ricoh, Fuji Xerox, and other major office equipment makers have begun downsizing their electrophotographic section to ease burden for the future. The move is impacting roller-related component makers severely because the larger the component makers become, the higher the risk for them to lose business margins and downsize the business after being caught in price competition. Such makers are rushing to fix the problem by splitting a component production division off the head office to own it as a subsidiary or transferring production overseas to reduce labor costs. What's worse, even makers with high market share of particular components could be put in

jeopardy if cheaper alternatives spread in the market. If such makers are driven out of business, office equipment makers depending on them will be impacted severely. Against this backdrop, however, component specialist makers have a cost advantage over

others handling in-house production. Their strength will be very important when offering "better and more affordable products" to promising and emerging markets that favor cheap products. In addition, all hardware makers focus on making less power consumption devices by improving fusing systems on the back of a global trend toward tightening regulations to preserve the environment. Again, component makers are expected to play a significant role in this area. The 13th report will focus on how the rapidly-changing business landscape is impacting roller

parts makers and posing challenges for them, as well as analyze their future prospects from a broader perspective.
