We find this truth unveiled even in the beginning stages shortly after the fall of Adam and Eve. I find it interesting that Genesis 3:8 doesn't simply say that Adam and Eve heard God walking in the garden in the cool of the day, but more specifically, "And they heard the voice of the LORD God walking in the garden in the cool of the day:"(Gen. 3:8a) It's noteworthy that the Scripture says, "the voice of the LORD God." Further still, as recorded in John chapter 1, the Jews sent priests and Levites from Jerusalem to question John the Baptist by asking Him, "Who art thou?" In John 1:23 he said, "I am the voice of one crying in the wilderness, Make straight the way of the Lord, as said the prophet Esaias." Notice again, the emphasis is upon the voice. One may also readily see that the voice in Genesis was in a garden, but as it is with the finished product of sin, the voice in John's Gospel is crying in the wilderness; sin always turns gardens into wildernesses. Again, let us give attention to the term voice. A little further into Genesis, not long after the fall of Adam and Eve, all they have to show for the wages of sin is a dead corpse and a killer. Certainly it was a horrible situation, Cain and Abel are brothers, but what does that matter to sin? Cain slays Abel, but the Scriptures record a marvelous truth as Abel, who is a type of the Lord Jesus Christ, lies dead. However, as seen in the Holy Scriptures, even though his body was dead, the blood was still alive! Not only is the life of the flesh in the blood as referenced in Leviticus 17:11, but according to Genesis 4:10, the blood has a voice! "And he (God) said, What hast thou done? the voice of thy brother's blood crieth unto me from the ground." ARTICLES of FAITHThe object for which it is formed is: To preach the Gospel of Jesus Christ, and promote abetter understanding among all breth- ren.

The Word of God alone shall be the Doctrine, Practice, and Discipline of this Boardof Members: it being understood that we receive it as the inspired Word of God and theDivine rule of faith and conduct.

We believe in God the Father Almighty. Maker of heaven and earth, and in Jesus Christ,His only begotten Son, who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the virgin Mary, sufferedunder Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died and was buried and arose on the third day accordingto the Scriptures, afterwards ascended into heaven where He is now seated at the right hand ofGod the Father, from whence He is come again to judge the quick and dead.

We believe in Water Baptism and that it should be administered to every believeraccording to the Scriptures given by St. Matthew 3:17;28:19; St. Mark 16:15; Acts 8:36-38.We teach that the Blood of Jesus Christ cleanseth from all sin, and sanctifies the believer, thusmaking him or her eligible to re- ceive the gift of the Holy Ghost which is given to themthat obey (Acts 5:32) and the evidence of such experience shall be according to Acts 2:4.

We believe in the resurrection of the dead and the Commu- nion of the saints, the Lord’sSupper and washing the saint  s feet. We believe that divine healing for our physical bodieswas included in His suffering as mentioned by the prophet Isaiah 53:5. It is still available toall who meet conditions and accord- ing to His will (James 5:14).

We believe that all ministers should be of good report (1 Timothy 3:7-12) includingPastors, Evangelists, Deacons and Elders (Titus 1:5-7); and husbands of one wife.We believe the Church of Jesus Christ to be a living Organism. The Body of Christ, andhabitation of God through the Spirit (Ephesians 2:20-22), and that each true believer is a memberof the Body (1 Corinthians 12:14; Acts 2:47). -By Brother Ira J. Roberts

Editor’s Desk“...My tongue is the pen of a

ready writer.” Ps. 45:1

Greetings to all. We aregrateful to all of you for

your prayers and financialsupport. This work could notexist if it were not for yourgenerosity.

I hope that you have beenblessed to attend some of thespecial meetings that take place this time of year. All themeetings I have attended have been wonderful and it seemsthat God is pouring out His Spirit upon His people. All thegreat things that God has done, were not done in the past. Heis God of the present and and Christian History is beingwritten now as God is doing great things among His people.

I pray we may redeem our time and use it for high and holypurposes. Frederick Faber said: “The surest method of arrivingat a knowledge of God’s eternal purpose about us is to befound in the right use of the present moment.” “Now” is theonly thing we have in our possession. The past can’t beretrieved, the future is not yet in your hand. Spend yourmoment wisely because it determines eternity. Trust Godwith the moment you have been given and the future will betaken care of.

You will not sink under the burden of life if tomorrow’sburden is not added to your present. Don’t overload your“now” with the stress of tomorrow. Live each moment of timeand as we pass down life’s busy path, “let us not miss the goldfor the rush.”

My apologies that this edition of the “HM” is going to arrivelate. I try my best to be timely. Building projects at churchcamps, camp meetings and other pastoral and ministerialduties have just made there to “not be enough hours in theday. I also, have had two deaths in my church recently thatrequired me to answer my pastoral duties.

I hope the Holiness Messenger with its current format is beinga blessing to all. I know that other people love to hear whatGod is doing in your part of the field and so send us yourtestimonies of what God is doing for your church or ministry. As space allows we will publish what God is doing aroundour nation and world.

Thanks to all of you for your financial support. Pray for usthat God will guide us in future decisions with thispublication. Thanks to all my staff and editors who contribute.God Bless You.

spoke in Genesis; however, concerning the Blood of Christ,Hebrews 12:23-24 declares, "To the general assembly andchurch of the firstborn, which are written in heaven, and toGod the Judge of all, and to the spirits of just men made perfect,And to Jesus the mediator of the new covenant, and to the bloodof sprinkling, that speaketh better things than that of Abel.Thank God that the Blood of Christ has a VOICE!

It's a voice that's louder than every temptation; it's a voice that'slouder than every past regret; it's a voice that's louder thansickness and disease; it's a voice that's louder than the voice ofole' slewfoot himself! Thank God for the Blood and the Voicethat it has! Since everything we believeand preach is constituted upon the Blood, the idea that your faith has a voice thatcan get results is, in itself, based upon theBlood of Christ. If the Blood of Christ"speaketh better things" as alluded to inHebrews 12:24b, then that same Bloodgives validity to the voice of faith! Quiteobviously the 10th chapter of Romans, from which we have gleaned someopening verses, is dealing with faith inregards to salvation. Romans 10:9says, "For with the heart manbelieveth unto righteousness; andwith the mouth confession is madeunto salvation." It's amazing tome, that the word heart and mouthare both stated in regards tosalvation. In fact, the Greek wordfor saved in Romans 10:9 is"sozo," and it is used fifty - seventimes in the English translation ofthe Bible. In all but fivereferences it is the same Greekword. According to Strong'sConcordance, the word sozomeans, "to save, deliver, protect, and heal." The indication here isobvious, salvation is a completework of making a person whole inspirit, soul, and body.

When Christ healed the sickduring His ministry, the Bibledeclared that they were madewhole. In Matthew 9:21-22, thewoman with the issue of blood"...said within herself, If I may buttouch his garment, I shall be

whole. But Jesus turned him about, and when he saw her, hesaid, Daughter, be of good comfort; thy faith hath made theewhole. And the woman was made whole from that hour." Threetimes in this narrative, the word whole is used. The Greek wordfor whole in these references is the word "sozo," the same wordthat is translated saved throughout the New Testament. In ourcarnal minds, the word salvation simply means the saving ofone's spirit in the born again experience, but in God's mind, salvation is a complete deliverance and healing within the spirit, soul, and body of man! It seems to me, that we as a peoplehave lost sight of divine healing as provided for in the

atonement.

Sometime ago I was praying, and theSpirit of God spoke to me and said, "Son,my people have neglected My Message ofDivine Healing; and Now the Message ofthe Baptism of the Holy Ghost with theevidence of speaking in other tongues isunder attack by the enemy. It won't belong until the message of Salvation willcome under great attack as well." He alsospoke to me in regards to Divine Healing

and said, "My people have takenMy Word and filtered it throughtheir experiences, instead of takingtheir experiences and filtering itthrough My Word." You see mybrothers and sisters, the enemyisn't content for us to back off onthe message of healing as providedfor the atonement, no, He won'tstop until the very message ofsalvation is watered down as well.Regarding the woman with theissue of blood in Matthew 9:21-22, isn't is astounding that "shesaid within herself;" Equallyastounding is the fact that Christsaid to Her, "thy faith hath madethee whole." He alwaysrecognizes the voice of faith. Weare like children by and large. Achild doesn't know how to use hisvoice correctly to form words untilhe hears someone else first.

So it is in regards to the voice offaith. As I said in the beginning,it would do great good to gothrough the Scriptures and look at

“And I, brethren, when I came to you, came not withexcellency of speech or of wisdom, declaring unto you thetestimony of God. For I determined not to know any thingamong you, save Jesus Christ, and him crucified. And I waswith you in weakness, and in fear, and in much trembling. And my speech and my preaching was not with enticing wordsof man's wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and ofpower: That your faith should not stand in the wisdom of men,but in the power of God.” (1 Corinthians 2:1-5 KJV)

The word Cessationism is gaining popularity in our day.Basically, cessationism teaches that spiritual gifts such

as speaking in tongues, prophecy, and healing ceased tooperate once the church was established by the apostles. Acessationist believes those gifts were necessary tools for theformation of the early church but no longer needed todaysince we have a complete and perfect revelation in the Bible. The average cessationist would maintain that they believe inthe Holy Ghost, and do believe He is at work in the churchtoday, just not in the same ways as in the early days of thechurch. Opposite the cessationist viewpoint, we who believein the continuing operation of the gifts of the Spirit are calledcontinuationist.

Cessationists love to point out how far back their viewpointgoes. For instance, the writings of the early church fathers,John Chrysostom (AD 347-407) and Augustine (AD 354-430), are often cited as evidence in support of the idea thatspiritual gifts ceased soon after the apostles. In hiscommentary on the spiritual gifts mentioned in 1 Corinthians12, Chrysostom writes, “This whole place is very obscure:but the obscurity is produced by our ignorance of the factsreferred to and by their cessation, being such as then used tooccur but now no longer take place” (Chrysotom 1844-1848).Augustine makes a similar statement in his commentary on1 John chapter 3, “In the earliest times, the Holy Ghost fellupon them that believed: and they spake with tongues, whichthey had not learned, as the Spirit gave them utterance. Thesewere signs adapted to the time. For there behooved to be thatbetokening of the Holy Spirit in all tongues, to shew that theGospel of God was to run through all tongues over the wholeearth. That thing was done for a betokening, and it passedaway” (Augustine 1844-1848). Obviously, in these passages, both writers do clearly state that the operation of spiritual giftsno longer took place in their day (at least to their knowledge).Does that, however, qualify as justification for establishing adoctrine that the spiritual gifts had ceased altogether; or, thatthe gifts had ceased because God had willed it so and notrather because of some other condition? What was taking

the attention that God gives to hearing and speaking. There isso much to say in regards to hearing; You can't speak in faithuntil you firstly hear in faith. In Mark chapter 4, you findphrases from Christ such as, "If any man have ears to hear, lethim hear. And he said unto them, Take heed what ye hear:with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you: andunto you that hear shall more be given."(Mk. 4:23-25) and".....spake he the word unto them, as they were able to hearit."(Mk 4:33b) The Lord has clearly shown me that if peoplehear incorrectly, it's exceptionally hard for them to be healedor receive any other of the promises purchased by Him. That'swhy "...faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word ofGod."(Rom. 10:17)

Observe Christ's ministry in Luke 5:15, "But so much the morewent there a fame abroad of him: and great multitudes cametogether to hear, and to be healed by him of their infirmities."Also, Luke 6:17 says, "And he came down with them, and stoodin the plain, and the company of his disciples, and a greatmultitude of people out of all Judaea and Jerusalem, and fromthe sea coast of Tyre and Sidon, which came to hear him, andto be healed of their diseases:" Notice, the hearing came first, then the healing. For faith to have a voice that moves God onour behalf, we must be able to hear the word of faith first. Inhis book, "Your Faith Can Set You Free," one of our greattrailblazers, Bro. Gene Calicott says, "Some preachers say, 'Idon believe in this doctrine of faith cures all.' Then, they don'tbelieve the Bible. Faith is the cure for everything. Faith evencures sin. It cures leprosy. It cures worry. It cures poverty. It cures hunger. It cures everything. Why? Because Faithmoves God. When God moves, nothing can be wrong."(P. 58)

It's very important that you understand this if you are going tohave your prayers answered: Faith Begins where the Will ofGod is known, and the Will of God is known by what theWord of God declares. When we have the word of faithabiding in us, and we abide in Him, we can ask anything Hehas promised as stated by Christ in John 15:7, "If ye abide inme, and my words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will, andit shall be done unto you." When we have heard the word offaith, which is the Word of God, then the voice of faith becomesstrong and clear, and we can do as Christ said in Mark 11:23-24,"For verily I say unto you, That whosoever shall say unto thismountain, Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea; andshall not doubt in his heart, but shall believe that those thingswhich he saith shall come to pass; he shall have whatsoeverhe saith. Therefore I say unto you, What things soever yedesire, when ye pray, believe that ye receive them, and ye shallhave them." Go ahead, use your voice of faith, God is waitingto hear it!

sayest, I am rich, and increased with goods, and have needof nothing; and knowest not that thou art wretched, andmiserable, and poor, and blind, and naked…” (Revelation3:14-17 KJV).

How does cessationism relate to the Pentecostal-Holinessmovement? Why would we need to be familiar with theterm or its origin and history?I believe cessationism is the man-made response to thechurch’s need for revival. It is a sad and empty alternative forprayer and fasting. It is a doctrine for those who are unwillingto wait on God and/or submit to the leadership of the Spiritin all areas of life. Cessationism stands by as a widely-accepted explanation when the church is not witnessing thepower of the Holy Ghost as in days gone by. In other words,it is easier to adapt our doctrinal beliefs to the temperaturechange in the church rather than to humble ourselves beforeGod to find out why the evidence is missing.

May we ever remember, there are no adequate substitutes forthe real power of the Holy Ghost. We can learn church growthtechniques to get larger crowds. We can learn counseling

techniques to make people feelbetter about their problems. We canadd elements of entertainment tomake our services more appealing. We can even replace spiritualexhibition with biblical expositionand claim to be sola Scriptura.Personally, I strongly believe in andpractice verse-by-verse teaching, but, without the power of the Spirit,I can do nothing more than providescriptural information; true biblicalapplication is ONLY accomplishedthrough the power of the HolyGhost. Apostle Paul knew this;“For I determined not to know anything among you, save Jesus Christ, and him crucified. . . And my speechand my preaching was not with

enticing words of man's wisdom, but in demonstration of theSpirit and of power:” (1 Corinthians 2:1-5 KJV).

In conclusion: My generation is known as the “microwavegeneration.” We are accustomed to instant everything. Fromcoffee to communication, we like everything to come to uswithout delay. According to a news article in the UK’sTelegraph, researchers have shown that the average humanattention span has fallen from 12 seconds in 2000 to just eightseconds. Goldfish are believed to still have an attention spanof nine seconds. This presents a serious problem for thechurch today; for in Scripture, we read where Jesus, “shewedhimself alive after his passion by many infallible proofs, beingseen of them forty days, and speaking of the things pertainingto the kingdom of God: And, being assembled together withthem, commanded them that they should not depart from

place in Christianity surrounding the times of Chysotom andAugustine that may have been a factor in the church no longerembracing the operation of spiritual gifts?

I think John Wesley presents an excellent answer: “It doesnot appear that these extraordinary gifts of the Holy Ghostwere common in the church for more than two or threecenturies. We seldom hear of them after that fatal period whenthe Emperor Constantine called himself a Christian, and froma vain imagination of promoting the Christian cause therebyheaped riches, and power, and honour, upon the Christiansin general; but in particular upon the Christian clergy. Fromthis time they almost totally ceased; very few instances of thekind were found. The cause of this was not (as has beenvulgarly supposed) "because there was no more occasion forthem," because all the world was become Christian. This isa miserable mistake; not a twentieth part of it was thennominally Christian. The real cause was, "the love of many,"almost of all Christians, so called, was "waxed cold." TheChristians had no more of the Spirit of Christ than the otherHeathens. The Son of Man, when he came to examine hisChurch, could hardly "find faith upon earth." This was thereal cause why the extraordinarygifts of the Holy Ghost were nolonger to be found in the ChristianChurch -- because the Christianswere turned Heathens again, andhad only a dead form left.” (Wesleyn.d.)

As Wesley points out, in the erawhen cessationism took hold in thechurch, the church was being liftedout of its poverty, powerlessness, and obscurity by the RomanEmperor Constantine. Suddenly theministry was not a profession lookeddown upon by the elite asConstantine granted the Christianclergy special privileges andallowed people to will their propertyto the Church. The church now had prosperity and power astools to spread its message. Up until that time, all the churchhad was the gospel of Jesus accompanied by miraculous signs.Since the pursuit of prosperity ran counter to the fundamentalteachings of Jesus, the church eventually had to choosebetween being protected by the wealth and power of Romeor clinging to the cross of Christ and having only the backingof the power of the Holy Ghost. Could it be that the operationof the spiritual gifts ceased due to the church no longerdepending on them for propagation of the message of thegospel? “And unto the angel of the church of the Laodiceanswrite; These things saith the Amen, the faithful and truewitness, the beginning of the creation of God; I know thyworks, that thou art neither cold nor hot: I would thou wertcold or hot. So then because thou art lukewarm, and neithercold nor hot, I will spue thee out of my mouth. Because thou

These are the welcoming words from a woman in ourAmerican society. She is a ‘Representative Woman’ whoseformal name is ‘Liberty Enlightening the World.’ To most sheis simply ‘Lady Liberty’ or, ‘The Statue of Liberty.’ Of courseshe is not a real woman; however, she is widely recognizedas a representative figure indicative of our welcoming nation.Figurative language and symbols can be a tremendous aid tomemory and messaging as is so aptlyillustrated by the “Statue of Liberty.”This literary device is also seen in thebook of Revelation creating anintriguing message accentuated by itssymbolism. Much in the same way theStatue of Liberty punctuates NewYork Harbor, a symbolic womanmarks a message in the book ofRevelation. In fact, there is a trilogy ofsymbolic women. They all representsomething religious. I am speaking ofthe Sun clothed Woman in Revelation 12; the Great Whorein Revelation 17; and the Bride in Revelation 21. Our worldis rushing toward the epic events predicted in the book ofRevelation. These world changing events are known as thetime of ‘Tribulation’, the Battle of Armageddon, and the returnof Christ for His Millennial Reign. Against the backdrop ofthese events stands three Symbolic Women that help paint thefinal portrait of religion in the Word of God.In the Sun Clothed Woman, we see a panoramic picture of thenation of Israel, God’s chosen nation to bring Christ into theWorld. The Great Whore provides a picture of religious error. She ismore than just a snapshot of the apostate church. She is the‘Mother of Harlots and Abominations of the Earth.’ Sherepresents a panoramic picture of ecumenical error and is thedevil’s religious counterfeit to seduce men from God andTruth. Finally there is the picture of the Bride, God’s chosen vesselto bring men to Christ. It is she who Christ prepared forHimself without spot or wrinkle or any such thing. John sees

Jerusalem, but wait for the promise of the Father, which, saithhe, ye have heard of me. For John truly baptized with water;but ye shall be baptized with the Holy Ghost not many dayshence” (Acts 1:3-5 KJV).

I do not believe that Jesus is establishing that there is a ten-daywaiting period for the baptism of the Holy Ghost any morethan I believe He’s saying that we must travel to Jerusalem toreceive it. But, I do believe there is a principle here: If we areto be filled with the Holy Ghost and witness His power onceagain, we must disrupt our lives and get in a place of absoluteobedience and stay there until He comes. We cannot set asidejust a day or even ten days to seek His strength, WE MUSTTARRY UNTIL. We must not grow weary in waiting on theLord and then rush off to do our own thing in our own wayand in our own strength. That is how we have come to wherewe are today. May God grant a generation who will determineto sell themselves out to God and wait for the promise of Hispower.

They had a literature before most nations had letters, aliterature that today, in the Scriptures, is more widely dif-fused than the literature of any other people.

Assyria has perished, Babylon is in heaps, Rome has totteredand fallen, Egypt has become a “base” kingdom, but the Jewhas outlived all his conquerors and walks unscathed amid thegeneral wreck. Dispersed for centuries among all nations, without a national centre, capital, government, flag, or rally-ing point, secular or religious, he has never been absorbed bythe nations, nor lost his identity or national peculiarities andcharacteristics, and we have the unique spectacle of a nationwithout a king, government, or land, retaining its nationalexistence, and a land that seems to be under a curse, awaitingthe return of its legal owners.”

In the 12th chapter of the book of Genesis, that book ofbeginnings, God calls Abraham. From Abraham he gives usthe nation of Israel… the Jew. In the 12th chapter of the bookof Revelation, that book of endings, we have a sweepingpanoramic view of Israel. Once again, she is preserved byGod as a testimony to God’s faithfulness: He will keep Hisword. It is also a testimony to His power: He CAN keep HisWord. And it reveals that He is eternal: God HAS kept HisWord through the centuries. Here she stands at the end ofGod’s book. She is clothed with the sun. The moon is at herfeet. Her crown is not made of earthly materials… it is madeof the stars… something heavenly. This is a beautiful pictureof the faithfulness of God. It is as if we have a lull in the stormthat is being described in the book of Revelation. The finalwave of God’s wrath will be described in the next severalchapters. But just before it sweeps across the world, God givesus a glimpse of His faithfulness. At the end of Noah’s storm,He gave us the rainbow. But in the middle of this storm, thenarrative pauses, and God shows us this ‘Sun clothedWoman.’ This burst of heavenly light cuts through thebillowing clouds of divine wrath. It envelopes this womanand sends a message to us all. God will preserve His peopleand fulfill His Word. -JKL

her in her glorified state inhabiting that place prepared for herby Christ Himself. We will now focus our attention on the ‘Sun ClothedWoman’. Each of these women are at least partly identifiedby their clothing. This woman’s clothes are heavenly in theirorigin and appearance and are not designed to cover the shameof her fallen nature as were the clothes God gave Eve in thegarden. Those physical clothes carried a spiritual lesson andthe clothes of this representative woman have a spiritual lessonas well. This woman represents the Nation of Israel and herclothes are designed to give glory to God - she is clothed withthe Sun. The Sun, the closest star to our planet, is a source oflight and life as well as being a picture of God’s power andglory; therefore, that is what God has chosen with which toclothe the Nation of Israel. Israel’s very existence is atestimony to the power and faithfulness of God. The sun isalso a chief instrument in marking time and seasons. So it iswith the nation of Israel. God’s work toward her has markedcertain “times and seasons.” God’s work among the nationsis most clearly seen against the light of His work in Israel’shistory. The light of His plan and providence is always uponthis nation. Even in times of judgment, God clearly revealsHis character by His dealings with Israel among the nations. He IS the God of Israel. He chose to identify Himself that way.And the World has seen His miraculous delivering power workfor that nation, even in modern times. The world has alsowatched God’s judgment in action as He judged His ownpeople. Israel is judged according to her relationship with God.But even in judgment, God preserves her. Other nations arejudged according to their relationship with Israel. This is notthe only standard by which God judges the nations, but it is amost outstanding truth of the scripture. This doctrine is afulfillment of Genesis 12:3. “And I will bless them that blessthee, and curse him that curseth thee: and in thee shall allfamilies of the earth be blessed.”Clarence Larkin says it so capably in his Dispensational Truthbook. Here is a quote from his chapter about “The Jew.” “Forupwards of 4000 years, amid all civilizations and countries, conditions of government, there has existed a distinct peoplewith laws, habits and customs distinctively their own. Thehistory of the Jewish race reads like a story from the ArabianNights, and is without a parallel in human history. Thoughoppressed, downtrodden, carried to other lands, scatteredamong the nations, like a Phoenix, they have risen from theashes of their dispersions, and appear now and again upon thepage of history. They are remarkable in the first place for their“Antiquity.” No nation can trace back its lineage by the clearlight of reliable history so far as they. In comparison with theJews the nations which are making the history of the worldtoday are young. The “Golden Age” of Israel’s glory was long before thepalmy days of Greece and -Rome. Long before Socrates andPlato taught philosophy, or Herodotus wrote history; in thedim ages of which Homer’s Iliad preserves traditions andmemorials; before all other authentic and circumstantial re-cords, the nation of Israel was an organized, civilized, andwell-established people.

Praise from Pioneers

THE PLANTING OF THE LORD“...the planting of the LORD, that he might be glorified” Is61:3.

That portion of scripture best describes Revival TimeOutreach Center in Bartlesville, OK - a planting of the LORDfor His glory. At the inception of the work in 1994, the Lord'splowman was the Roger Sheppard family. Bro. Sheppard isa man of endless zeal for Jesus and lost souls. In addition toBro. Roger's labor, Sis. Pam, his wife, and their three childrencombined to create a team effort for establishing a solidfoundation leading to an enduring work of God in thiscommunity of hurting families and endless needs. The Ganze family, Bro. Bruce and Sis. Michelle, James,Joseph, John and Jared, came 13 yearslater to help raise walls on that firmfooting. It cannot be stressed enough howa young church comes to fruition by thelabor and sacrifice of the whole ministryfamily in combination with the grace ofan Almighty God.

Brother David Lamb once stated fromthe pulpit that God had told him, “If youwill pastor the community, I will buildyou a church to bring them to.” I havenever forgotten those words, They are soexpressive in defining the plowman andhis field of labor. He must not shy awayat the clouds, nor grow weary at the clods, but keep his handon the plow, and his eye on a straight furrow. To se in hisheart the field of harvest, the vision once given must befollowed. The planting will prosper if we stay with the dream.God showed Bro. Roger Sheppard, the pioneer pastor, that:a) it was time for revival, b) that revival would only comethru true repentance and a turning back to the old-time wayof biblical Pentecost and holy living, c) that through this anoutreach for souls would be produced which would flow backinto the community, d) and that God would bring those whowere hurting, rejected, disillusioned by a worldly church intoa place of true joy and service to Christ the King.

Today, twenty-three years later, that vision is still coming topass. Children’s ministry, young people stirred with truth, elders who thought they had seen the last of a real move ofGod, all coming hungrily to be fed from a King James Bible.Songs are sang from a Hymn book, altar calls with altars andaltar workers with the Spirit of Love and family among God’s

people, and there is a place of worth for them in a lonely,sin-sickened world.

As a young church struggling to build on that vision, leadership and accountability is so vital. With little fromwhich to draw for a local board, men of God of true statureand trusted council from outside our congregation have beenan under-girding. The Trustee Board, Bro. Roger Sheppard,Bro. Vernon Jarvis, Bro. Gary Norris, Bro. Bob Goodwin,Bro. Jeff Hough, and Bro. David Tucker, have all contributedimmensely by providing needed support and sharing thevision. The support of other established churches, missionaries such as the Sumner family and the Martin familywho have given of themselves, and many, many others toonumerous to name all used by God in His planting, Hisbuilding, the work of His hands!

Most importantly, Jesus has confirmed His Word withcountless signs and wonders following such as: soulsreceiving salvation, people blessed with divine healing, miraculous circumstances occurring, heavenly provisionsfrom the hands of local men and women, banks and lumberyards and restaurant owners. In addition, outreach endeavors

including hospital ministry, participationin numerous funerals, dealing withfamily crises, house to house prayer onthe doorstep and the manifested presenceof God in the home, prayer meetings andpublic dinners, Hispanic revivals andplay casts are what make up the motto“a growing church family with a vision”!Oh, how God blesses outreach!

As a husband and the father of four sonsgiven to the work of the ministry, I knowthe sacrifice of family. The weariness ofbi-vocation, the strain on the marriage

and home, and the constant attack of the enemy on the fieldsall require a “vigilant, stiff post in solid ground”. But the Lordloves His man, “For God is not unrighteous to forget yourwork and labour of love, which ye have shewed toward hisname, in that ye have ministered to the saints and do minister.”Heb 6:10. 1Cor 3:9 says “For we are labourers together withGod: ye are God's husbandry, ye are God's building.” AndGal 6:9 tells us “And let us not be weary in well doing: forin due season we shall reap, if we faint not.”

Pastors, I have a word for you. Take Isaiah chapter 61 to yourheart and let His words apply to you, every phrase, personally. You will hear the Master address each part of your life andyour field of labor. Be encouraged! He is coming! His workis before Him and His reward is with Him!The planting of the LORD requires a plowman faithful to hisplow; He shall have plenty, and he shall walk in the pleasureof his Lord!

Rev. Mike Metzger & Family

Last time we talked aboutthe peril of unbelief and

how it can negatively affectthe Christian as well as thosewho are unsaved. Now let’slook at the opposite end of thespectrum, trusting in God.Proverbs 3:5-6 reads, “Trustin the LORD with all thineheart; and lean not unto thineown understanding. In all thyways acknowledge him, and heshall direct thy paths.”

Every relationship hinges upontrust in some way. Our

relationship with God is no different in that it is founded onus trusting God for salvation and deliverance from sin. Theword for trust simply means “to cling to,” “to confide in,” or“to set one’s hope or confidence in.” If the foundation of trustin God is not properly established it will be impossible for theChristian to carry out the rest of the duties of being a Christian. The phrase “trust in the Lord” in the original has a preposition,“el,” which indicates direction. Our trust should be going inthe direction of Jehovah. We trust God for salvation, healing, provision, and should also trust in Him for direction. We areto trust Him with all our heart, which is the very core of whowe are.

When he says “lean not to thine own understanding” it is ametaphor which speaks of a very common custom in thosedays that when a king would appear in public he would oftenlean on the shoulders of his friends or ministers. It was notthat the king was incapable of standing on his own, but ratherchose to rely on his ministers to help support him. God hascreated us with minds that we are able to think on our ownand He expects us to use the brain He has given us. Just as thekings had their own legs to stand on yet they chose to lean onthose around them, we are not to rely solely on the ability ofour own minds to get us through life. The phrase uses the samepreposition “el” indicating that the direction of our “lean”should not be toward our own understanding. When we useour own understanding we are to look to God to guide anddirect us in the right way.

Verse 6 starts out with, “In all thy ways acknowledge him.”This means that no matter what the case is in any situation weshould “acknowledge” God, or recognize His overrulingprovidence in our lives. This phrase covers all aspects of our

lives whether it be spiritual, secular, public or private. Somany times we want the direction of the Lord in our liveswhen there are big decisions or a life changing crisis but wefail to acknowledge Him in the mundane or everyday thingsof life. I remember many times as a child when we would begoing somewhere out to eat on a Sunday afternoon and wewould pull up and pile out of the car in a mad race to the door. Then all of the sudden my grandma would say she felt“checked” and we would sadly climb back in the car and gohome. At the time it did not make much sense but as I grewolder I realized that she was simply obeying the Scripture andacknowledging God in all her ways. Sometimes God may dealwith us in a simple way just to see if we acknowledge Him inthe little things. If we fail in the little things then should wereally expect God to send guidance or direction in the lifealtering times of our lives?

To acknowledge God is not simply to notice His presence ina passive way, nor to just simply try and persuade Him in thedirection we want to take. To acknowledge here means toconsider in all its parts or to reflect upon. We can acknowledgeGod by looking in His word and finding out whether or notthe move we are going to make is in accordance with theprecepts of His Word. We are to fully engage in seeing thepower, wisdom, providence, goodness, and justice of God andlook to Him for direction. Psalm 1:6 says, “The Lord knoweththe way of the righteous.” God in His infinite wisdom knowswhat is best for us in the major things of life as well as thesmall and seemingly unimportant details of our lives. Thereare some things (such as whether to eat out or not) that are notdirectly spelled out in the Word of God for us and that is whyit is necessary to have a personal relationship with Him suchthat He can speak to our hearts and guide us in the everydaywalk of life. However, what God speaks to our hearts willNEVER contradict what He has written down in His Word.

Along with this great advice comes an even greater promise. If we look to the Lord for direction in all of our ways He haspromised that he would direct our path. When people go onhunting or fishing trips to places with which they areunfamiliar they will often go along with a guide who is welllearned in the terrain and will be able to keep them fromveering onto a path that will lead them astray or get them lost. The same is true for the Christian as we are pilgrims passingthrough and our job is not to get so familiar with this worldthat we can make it through alone but rather to learn to trustin the unfailing providence of our God to guide us throughsafely to the other side. He has given us His word that if wetrust in Him, lean not to our own understanding, and in all ourway acknowledge Him that He will direct us in the right way.

John Macduff said:“Trust God where you cannot trace Him.Do not try to penetrate the cloud but rather look to the bowthat is over it. The mystery is God’s; the promise is yours. Letus trust Him when we cant understand Him.

Women of WorthWho can find a virtous woman? For

her price is far above Rubies.Proverbs 31:10

Hi Ladies. In know summer is busy with many activities andespecially so if the children are home for the summer.

You may feel that the attention demanded by your children andhome deprive you of fellowship with God and hinder yourspiritual life. You may even wonder why you go to church withall the frustration and distractions.

I assert that God may speak to you through your children. There have been times when I was so busy and needing to hearfrom the Lord that God would use my children to speak to me.

Though the days of early childhood arehectic, they are days of goldenopportunity. So “Don’t miss the gold forthe rush.” Seize these golden moments.Memories are being created everyday.Don’t miss the beauty of this moment. Iknow we tend to always look to the futurewhen the children are older and we feelthe burden may be eased. But when youget there you may wish they were smallagain.

Charles Swindoll spoke from experience and wrote this.

“Someday when the kids are grown, things are going to be alot different. …The kitchen will be incredibly neat. The sinkwill be free of sticky dishes, the garbage disposal won't getchoked on rubber bands or paper cups, the refrigerator won'tbe clogged with nine bottles of milk, and we won't lose the topsto jelly jars, catsup bottles, the peanut butter, the margarine, orthe mustard. The water jar won't be put back empty, the blenderwon't stand for six hours coated with the remains of a midnightmalt, and the honey will stay inside the container.”

“Someday when the kids are grown, I'll be able to see throughthe car windows. Fingerprints, tongue licks, sneaker footprints, and dog tracks (nobody knows how) will be conspicuous bytheir absence. The back seat won't be a disaster area, we won'tsit on jacks or crayons anymore, the tank will not always besomewhere between empty and fumes, and (glory to God!) Iwon't have to clean up dog messes another time.”

“Someday when the kids are grown, we won't run out of toilettissue. My wife won't lose her keys. We won't forget to shutthe refrigerator door. I won't have to dream up new ways ofdiverting attention from the gumball machine …or promise tokiss the rabbit goodnight . . . or wait up forever until they gethome from dates….”

Yes, someday when the kids are grown, things are going to bea lot different. One by one they'll leave our nest, and the place

will begin to resemble order and maybe even a touch ofelegance. The clink of china and silver will be heard onoccasion. The crackling of the fireplace will echo through thehallway. The phone will be strangely silent. The house will bequiet . . . and calm . . . and always clean . . . and empty . . . andfilled with memories . . . and lonely . . . and we won't like thatat all. And we'll spend our time not looking forward toSomeday but looking back to Yesterday. “

Let us relish these times and realize the greatness of our calling. We have the responsibility to keep a house, but also to makea home. The home is what shapes the moral character and soulof the child. Don’t let the house be a priority over the home.

Here are some things that were said by some if they were tohave the opportunity to raise their children all over again:

“I would do more hugging and less tugging”“I would take my eyes off the watch and watch with my eyes”“I would finger paint more and point my finger less.”“I would build self-esteem first and the house later.”

I will close with this story: A mother had left her boys whileshe went on an errand. She had an 8 year old son and a youngerboy. She done her shopping and the and was lugging hergroceries through the door when the 8 year old met andanxiously began to relate what his younger brother had beenin to. He said: “while I was out playing and Dad was on thetelephone, T. J. Took his crayons and wrote on the wall. It’sthe new paper you just hung in the dining room. I told himyou’d be mad.”

She let out a moan and asked, “where is your brother?” “In hiscloset”, the brother replied. She emptied her arms and with apurposeful stride marched to his closet. “Theodore JamesRoss!” She called his full name and he knew this meant doom.He slowly came from the closet and didn’t say a word

“Theodore James, do you realize what you have done!” TheMom shrieked out with her hands on her hips, “Dad and I justfinished that wall. Do you realize that I paid $22.00 a roll forthat paper? I saved my clothes money and sold jars of jam forthat wall.! I just can’t believe this! Don’t you respect anything?WE can’t have anything around here with you kids!”

The more she scolded the madder she got. Then she stompedform his room and headed for the dining room to confirm thedeed. When she saw the wall her eyes flooded with tears. Themessage read, “I Love Mommy” and was surrounded by aheart. She hung her head and went to her room and prayed forforgiveness that God would help her to see the things that reallymatter most.

Several years later when visiting the home, it was said that themom had bought a frame and kept the picture and put a framearound it. Hang in there moms, in a short while these struggleswill be a framed memory in our hearts. God bless you all.
