Weekly Wisdom

All four Gospels place women at the tomb to become the first witnesses to the Resurrection. Among them were Mary Magdalene, Mary the mother of James, Salome, and Joanna. These Women from Galilee provide the link between the ministry of Jesus and His passion. Their presence at the cross, burial, and the Resurrection of Jesus is significant to us all. At Easter, then and today, Jesus calls us with the simple instruction, “Wait with me...Follow Me.” It is an open-ended demand requiring courage, self-sacrifice, and perseverance. It is a choice with a promise that we will one day be with Him in paradise.

During this Easter season, reflect upon the gift of the resurrection in your faith life and ask yourself if you are answering Jesus’ call to follow Him.

What are YOU choosing this Easter?

TEEN CLOTHING CLOSET MINISTRY:Stacey Lawlor has been the lead parent volunteer coordinator

for the Teen Closet for the past four years. At this time, she is looking to pass the baton to another parent/adult/young adult who may be able to bring a set of fresh eyes and ideas.

“Of all the volunteer activities I have done over the past 15 or so years, the Teen Closet has been one of the most fulfilling to date for me. It’s a simple place where Christ’s messages are heard and acted upon all year long. For the teens who volunteer their time, it’s a place to see how they can directly contribute to someone else’s well-being and for the teens whose needs are met, it’s a reminder to them that they are loved and not forgotten.” – Stacey

If you have any more questions, are remotely interested, or definitely interested, please contact Jeff Mingin in the Parish Office. Thank you for your prayerful consideration with serving in the Teen Clothing Closet Ministry.

ATTENTION! Come all who like to be empowered by the Holy Spirit! “CREATION CARE CORNER”Spring is finally here, grass is growing and flowers are starting to bloom! For those with a green thumb or hoping to have a green thumb, our Church has several opportunities:

• We have about eight different bed areas that all too often clamor for some good ole fashioned Tender Loving Care. We would welcome individuals or groups to step up and take ownership of keeping the bed spruced up and trimmed. Typical activities would involve mulch spreading, seasonal plantings, weed monitoring, and watering as needed. We have money budgeted for this work, but lack the resources to effectively use it.

• The Day School also has beds adjacent to the playground area that require routine watering and management during the summer months. These beds produce vegetables that are distributed to the Food Pantry families at the end of the month, or to JCOC as the harvest becomes available. These areas, along with most of our bed areas are watered with water from our rain barrels using either hoses or watering cans. It’s a relaxing way to pass away the summer months and get some outdoor sunshine!

• Looking for a more robust involvement? Step up to grass cutting and bush/tree trimming. Our bushes need to be trimmed at about 60 day intervals, and our grass gets cut weekly. We have all the equipment, tools, and safety gear required. Riding equipment needs someone over 21, and use of safety gear is mandatory.

• All of these items can be done on your schedule. Grass cutting teams normally coordinate a mutually convenient time to cut, trim, edge, and clean up in one operation. Last season, we had four teams, so the commitment was about once a month. Bush trimming works out better if two people are involved.

• Finally, there are the odd jobs such as spraying for weed control. This is also a 60-day requirement. Did you know that a good weed spray can be homemade by mixing ½ cup of Epsom Salt with 1 quart of Apple Cider Vinegar?

• Is your interest peaked? Feel free to contact the Facility Director, Glenn Rodriguez, through the Church Office or at [email protected] for more information.

Please consider helping our Church look it’s best for all to see and enjoy. A special thanks to those who helped spruce up the leaves and winter debris in March so we could look our best for Easter!

I expected to have a quiet, thoughtful experience at DYC. My favorite parts were the Masses as they were more upbeat than normal and more involved. I am definitely taking back with me the idea that you can pray whenever not just at fixed times and that you shouldn't force things. Something I am going to take away from the breakout sessions is the constant reminder that evil is always present and that you have to make sure that you are following Jesus at all times. -Marie M

My expectations were pretty high after Steubenville and still DYC definitely met my expectations! It was extremely fun, and my favorite part was the opening speaker on the first evening. He was extremely energetic and got my blood pumping for the weekend. He taught that scripture is God's word and that God is always with us in a animated and engaging way. I’m taking back with me to be present in the moment, get off my social media and live my best life with my ears open to Christ.

-Madi H.

My expectations heading into the weekend we're high. I have attended DYC before and I enjoyed it. This weekend was amazing I was able to attend adoration, feed hungry people across the globe, and build my relationship with God. My favorite part was the talk from Sister. She taught me that God has a plan for me and anytime something doesn't workout I don't have to worry because he is there for me. One of the things I took away was that I need to make more room for God in my life. He has done so much for me, I will put down my electronics more and open my heart to God. -Sarah S.

I tried not to have a lot of expectations for the weekend but I definitely did anyway. I was super excited to come back and have adoration and all the talks especially after Steubenville. I was also excited because I have friends from other churches who came for the first time and I was happy they would see why I'm so obsessed with it. My favorite part was definitely adoration. I kind of expected to cry for most of it but I ended up laughing almost the whole time. It was a new way of feeling Gods presence. Instead of the overwhelming sense that I'm not worthy at all I felt his love and how incredible it is. It was just an incredibly joy filled experience. I'm taking back the memories of the calm I felt by the end of the weekend. Even though I'm still confused and I have no clue what God wants me to do, he gave me peace so I can calm down and allow my life to take the path it needs to. The saint battles session was cool to me. I always have fun hearing about the saints, and it was enlightening to see a new way to resolve conflict with love in your heart instead of frustration or anger. -Amy S.

It was really good and a fun experience I love the girls and I was with a met new friends and everything was fun and exciting thank you for taking me. -Jordyn K

DYC was a great experience I got to enjoy it with my holy family church friends. During my time: I danced, listen to music, played on the inflatables, volunteer, and most importantly, got closer to God. Over the weekend, there were many breakout sessions with many wonderful speakers who really understand what we as teenagers are all going through and cared about our relationship with God. My favorite speaker was a Sister from Manhattan. She gave amazing speeches that made me realize the kind of relationship I want with God. Overall, fantastic retreat!!

DYC was an awesome experience and brought me closer to god. i met some amazing people and just overall had a great time. the speakers were so cool. my favorite speaker was Sister Bethany Madonna. she was very inspiring with her stories and the simple words she spoke. from this weekend i definitely learned a lot, but the most important thing was to be present. look around and be where you actually are, not on your phone or distracted. -Lauren B.

This years DYC was a whole new experience than last year’s. The place felt much more active, and welcoming. I felt I could really be myself. My favorite part of DYC would have to be the Adoration. I don’t think I ever felt closer to God than before, It was almost like I could fell God holding my hands throughout the session. In that moment I new without a doubt that God truly cared and loved me, all my doubts were washed away. One thing that really stuck with me is how close god interacts with our lives. God have a plan for all of us. When the sister was talking to use and she told us her store about the sister on the bike it was a surprising story. For someone that does not have much faith in God to suddenly have his or her prayer answered strikes as another sign that God truly cares for all of his children. This is one experience that will stay with me for ever. –Matthew S.

My expectations for DYC were pretty high because I had such great experiences last year and the year be-fore. However, this weekend went above and beyond my expectations. DYC managed to get even better and I take away something different every year. My favorite part was adoration because it’s amazing to be in God’s presence so intimately alongside thousands of other teens. It is truly astounding to see Jesus and share a relationship so close to Him in adoration. Adoration reminds me how to feel God’s fulfilling and overwhelming love, and it is an experience like no other. As I go back to my life, I am going to find time to be present to God every day, as He is to me. I am going to set aside time for prayer each day and go to confession regularly. In my busy life, I want to make sure I am truly present to God and give myself to Him when I pray. In addition, I want to keep God as my priority and revolve my life around Him rather than school and college. One of the sessions I went to, How to read the Bible like a boss, was really helpful when it comes to navigating the Bible and the best ways to read it. I learned that the Gospels were a great place to start, and not to start on a random page. I also learned that if you look over the readings before mass, then it becomes easier to pay attention throughout the readings. -Kate S

This was my third year at DYC and I never really knew how much it meant to me until I had to miss some of

it. I was able to come Saturday night due to a school conflict earlier that morning. All I could think about was

what I was missing and what I would get to do when I got there. I arrived in time for adoration. It was

absolutely fantastic to spend time with Jesus after a long day. I especially loved Sister Bethany who gave a

talk before adoration and later to the girls. She was funny, inspiring and told stories that I will always

remember. I’m so glad that I was able to come to DYC, even if it was only for a little bit. The experience of

being surrounded by other teens who are just as crazy about Jesus as I am is incredible. Our voices were

hoarse from shouting and singing. I would not trade DYC for anything else in the world. -Ann S.

Because I had gone to DYC previously and loved it, I chose to go again this year. Going in my

expectations were that it was going to be similar to last year. Although many of the aspects were similar,

I had a whole new experience this year especially with adoration and my time at confession. This year

I prepared myself in what I was going to ask the Lord and think about while in his presence during

adoration. DYC is extremely fun and engaging, but if I had to pick a favorite part, it was definitely the

speakers. Sister Bethany and Mark Hart gave phenomenal speeches about God's love for us what the

Lord want from us in our lives. What made these speeches so amazing was that were just so relatable.

They made you laugh at times, made you cry and times, made you think, and inspired you. Sister

Bethany's talk during the gender separated sessions related to situations that, as high schoolers, we

deal with every day. She discussed a lot about relationships and shared what love is and to not take

love and intimacy lightly. The biggest thing that I took away from this weekend is the great love God had

for us as individuals and as our loving father wants to help us. DYC is a great experience and I look

forward to next year! -Cat M.
