Vermont dome top chest with original painted decoration on a black ground. Related to a chest of similar decoration we owned from the southern Vermont area, ca. 1820-30.
Labeled Vermont decorated furniture is fairly rare. This stencil-decorated late Sheraton chair is from a matched set of four, all in exceptional original condition - signed on the back of each “D. M. Tuthill - Saxton’s Village, Vermont.” Daniel M. Tuthill was a resident of Rocking-ham in 1833, and a furniture, looking glass and frame manufacturer in the Saxton’s River section of Rockingham in the 1840’s.

Antiques and Art in WoodstockThe 42nd Annual Vermont Antiques Dealers Show
CAPTAIN’S QUARTERS, Amherst, Mass. — Grenfell bookends.
WOODSTOCK, VT. — July 30 and 31 will see the Union Arena hopping with vendors and customers from all over the country buying and selling “the best Vermont has to offer.” Since its inception in the 1960s, the VermontADA Show has been the premiere show displaying a far-rang-ing selection of antiques, from rugs to painted furniture, brass to Native American, decorative to traditional and everything in between.
Dealers come from Kentucky, Missouri, all of New England, New York, New Jersey and espe-cially Vermont to create spectacular room set-tings in what has been described as the most beautiful show going. Customers come from all
over the United States, not only to buy the best, but to see old friends, make new ones and enjoy Woodstock and the Connecticut River Valley. Check the Woodstock Chamber of Commerce for lodging and dining information.
This show and sale has some new faces, includ-ing Pat Reese/John Rice from Portsmouth, N.H. (John returning to his roots after many years); Michael Westman from Newport, R.I., bringing an eclectic array of jewelry, tribal items and deco-rative smalls; Hanes and Ruskin return with for-mal smalls and furniture, silver and brass; John Rogers brings his knowledge, expertise and his renowned collection of butter molds; Marc
Witus from New Jersey has one of the finest selections of silver smalls, objets du vertu and more; and Kyle Scanlon rejoins the roster with his collection of fresh Vermont finds.
Join us Saturday, 10 am to 5 pm, or Sunday, 11 am to 4 pm. The event will be catered by Three Squares Café of Vergennes, Vermont (mentioned numerous times as the best antique show food ever at the Cabin Fever Show this winter). Admission is $10, which allows us to donate to charities in the local area. We look forward to seeing you.
For more information, call Greg Hamilton, 802-989-1158.
