INTRODUCTION

Peace, stability, strong institutions, and effective governance based on rule-of-law and upholding the principles of equality, human rights and justice are prerequisites for sustainable development. The SDG goal 16 aims to significantly reduce all forms of violence, and work with governments and communities, and to end conflict and insecurity. Goal 16 also focuses on ending abuse, exploitation, trafficking, corruption, and bribery, and in the development of accountable and transparent institutions.

As an educational powerhouse, LPU is committed and focused in regulating non-violence, peace, justice, and cooperation among all the classes of our society by organizing many events during the year 2019-20. These events develop a kind of sense among the students as how we can make a better earth to live in.

security officials, above 7000 security cameras, LPU is one of the safest campuses in the world. Our security team includes experienced ex-military men and women.

CAMPUS ENGAGEMENT ACTIVITIES

To promote a happy and pleasant environment, LPU celebrates the birthday, anniversary, and all special moments of their employees. This is quite helpful in building the team culture and cooperative environment in the University. An employee feels wanted and a part of the company when he is appreciated and remembered for important events like birthdays. LPU organizes various events every year to promote peace, unity, and oneness among all sets of individuals. One world and One India events are one of them that helps to promote diversity and peace. Sanidhya event is organized every year to promote encouragement among staff by recognizing their efforts and provide them with appreciation. More to this, the University organizes various other important events too, in collaboration with various government and non-govt agencies. The following events were organized by LPU to inculcate a sense of peace and Justice amongst the students.

LPU organized a grand event on “Run for Unity”, marking the birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel. It was celebrated by Lovely Professional University on hardaspur ground on 31st October, 2019. The birth anniversary is celebrated as Rashtriya Ekta Diwas or National Unity Day. The students inaugurated the event by a speech on the biography of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel. A recreational marathon run was then conducted among the students of various classes. The students also presented the posters for competition and a group discussion was also conducted on the topic of national unity.

The Department of Aerospace Engineering, School of Mechanical Engineering, Lovely Professional University, organized an Essay writing competition on topic: “Women Empowerment” on 2020-02-08. Women’s empowerment can be defined to promoting women’s sense of self-worth, their ability to determine their own choices, and their right to influence social change for themselves and others. It is closely aligned with female empowerment – a fundamental human right that’s also key to achieving a more peaceful, prosperous world. In Western countries, female empowerment is often associated with specific phases of the women’s rights movement in history. This movement tends to be split into three waves, the first beginning in the 19th and early 20th century where suffrage was a key feature. The second wave of the 1960s included the sexual revolution and the role of women in society. Third wave feminism is often seen as beginning in the 1990s. Women’s empowerment and promoting women’s rights have emerged as a part of a major global movement and is continuing to break new ground in recent years. Days like International Women’s Empowerment Day are also gaining momentum.

Lovely Professional University organized the major event One World on 16th November, 2019. Various schools had given the themes of different countries which they needed to represent in the event.

On 23th of March, 2020, one of the most sudden and stringent and COVID-19 lockdowns in the world was imposed in India, without any clear-cut directives on how state agencies and civil society organizations (CSOs) should respond to the enormous challenges it posed. The impact of the lockdown was particularly severe on certain sections of the population, including migrant workers, daily wage laborers, domestic workers, other marginalized groups and, unsurprisingly, women and children facing domestic violence. The lockdown exacerbated the factors contributing to domestic violence, severely limited survivors’ ability to seek help and redress, and placed severe burdens on providers seeking to intervene and respond to survivors. Keeping this in view School of Law organized a guest lecture on Domestic violence and Matrimonial conflicts during lockdown: legal prospects.

It is important for students to understand and realize the existence of these threats and their consequences. Injustice, corruption, bribery, and theft are still recurring problems in various developing countries. This results in a lack of justice and protection for people in those countries. Children around the world are the victims of violence, trafficking and homicide as a direct result of weak institutions. They should be aware of the values and institutions of democracy and how they serve to protect us. LPU being a strong institution is trying its best to make their students aware of all rights and duties towards the nation. We have taken various academic, legal, and social initiatives in this regard.

The School of Bioengineering and Biosciences organized Debate Competition for Promotion of National Values on October 12, 2019 with a view to preserve national values to intact the integrity of the nation.
