MissionGuided by the wisdom and

values of our tradition of respect for all people, Jewish Family Service of MetroWest,

New Jersey provides innovative, compassionate,

and outstanding social services to enhance the

independence and well-being of individuals and families

throughout all stages of life.

At every age, at every stage, we are here to help.

VisionJewish Family Service of MetroWest aims to be the premier Agency within the

MetroWest, New Jersey area providing for the

social services and mental health needs of the greater

community with unparalleled professionalism, humanity,

and respect for all who seek its support.

Every year, we, along with our friends, relatives, coworkers, and neighbors, are confronted by many challenges— depression, anxiety, domestic violence, food insecurities, children and teens who struggle with social, educational, or emotional stress, aging loved ones, and so much more. By offering supportive services and compassion, JFS MetroWest strives to ease life’s struggles at every age and at every stage of life.

This year, JFS MetroWest experienced its own transition as Reuben Rotman, Executive Director, left the agency, after twenty years, to pursue a new opportunity, having served in a variety of roles at JFS. Despite this, the agency launched new programs and services. JFS was appointed Essex County State Health Insurance Assistance Program (SHIP) Coordinator and launched the Senior SNAP Initiative which screens seniors for Supplemental Nutrition Assistance. Looking ahead, we formally established Next Generation @ JFS MetroWest, an opportunity identified by my predecessor, which will help shape the future lay leadership of the agency.

This annual report provides a summary of our accomplishments from the past year, fiscal year 2016-2017, and offers a peek at the difference we’ve made in more than 7,000 community members’ lives. Through the generous support of our funders and donors, the commitment of our volunteers, and the dedication of our board members and staff, we’ve been able to ensure that those who turn to JFS MetroWest now, and those who will need us in the future, can receive client-centered mental health programs and social services. Together, we are building a stronger, healthier, more inclusive and vibrant community. Thank you for your partnership and support in this vital effort.

With my appreciation,

Marion Medow President, JFS MetroWest Board of Trustees

JFS MetroWest leveraged its RSVP program, which provides community service opportunities to individuals 55+, to train and develop volunteers,

stationed throughout Essex County, to work in conjunction with JFS staff, to offer screening and counseling to older adults in the community for these government programs. Two of our counselors are based in local synagogues. "Alan and I joined JFS Major Gifts Society at its inception

in 2012. It was somewhat of a step up for us, but in

thinking about it, we realized that JFS is a “one stop

shopping” for so much that we care about. As the JFS

slogan goes “At every age, at every stage, we are here to

help.” JFS provides so many important, innovative and

creative services for those in our community. We love that

the staff are outstanding. We love that JFS takes care of

people in our own back yard. Having lived long enough and

having had experiences with our own parents, children,

siblings, and grandchildren, we see the immediate value

of these services. We love the one stop shopping aspect in another way. Through MGS, we support the JFS

and Rachel Coalition Friends campaigns, fundraisers, ad

journals, etc. in one easy donation.” ”

– Melanie Levitan, President Elect, JFS Board

Established in 2012, the JFS Major Gifts Society is comprised of leadership donors who, in a given year, make a minimum contribution of $10,000 or more to support JFS MetroWest or a particular JFS MetroWest program. Members of the JFS Major Gifts Society help JFS to fulfill its mission of providing innovative, compassionate, and outstanding social services to enhance the independence and well-being of individuals and families throughout all stages of life.

In FY 2016-17, the JFS Major Gifts Society campaign raised $593,042 of which $195,591, including $56,607 for Rachel Coalition, was designated to specific services or programs of the agency.

Thank you to the members of the JFS Major Gift Society (through 6/30/17).

Create a Jewish Legacy is a partnership program of the Harold Grinspoon Foundation and the Jewish Community Foundation of Greater MetroWest NJ which assists communities

across North America in promoting legacy giving to benefit local Jewish organizations. JFS MetroWest was one of many agencies and synagogues to apply and selected to participate.

Every day, JFS MetroWest responds to those in need in our community. Every year, we help more than 7,000 people. We serve as the 9-1-1 for our local Jewish community; ensuring a prompt, professional and comprehensive response for those who may be struggling with a personal conflict as well as for those who find themselves in crisis, with nowhere else to turn.

Our Legacy Donors are a group of individuals just like you who want to ensure that people and families who are struggling will always have a place to receive the support they need to live with dignity and security.

Create A Jewish Legacy

“ Jewish Family Service was founded in 1861 and has been serving numerous generations for the past 156 years. My family and I see the legacy program as one important way to insure the continued strength and commitment of JFS for future generations. Legacy giving honors those who have come before us and engages our families to better understand and support the programs that JFS provides to the greater Metrowest community. ”

— Fred Cohen

Thank you to all of the JFS MetroWest Legacy supporters (through 6/30/17).
