Message

I am happy that Disticts Red Cross Society is

releasing its Annual Report for the year 2015-16. The District Red Cross

Society has been doing tremendous job in alleviating the human sufferings

and providing services related to voluntary blood donation, health care

through organizing health checkup camps, health education, prevention of

communicable dieases awareness compaingns on social and health issues,

running of day care centre, help line for older persons and District Disability

Rehabilitation Centre through which various rehabilitation services like

physiotherapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy & assistive devices are

being provided to the persons with disabilities.

The Red Cross should assume higher responsibilities to

address the new challenges before the society i.e. drug abuse, unhygienic

environment, malnutrition etc. I hope the Red Cross Society will include these

programmes in its working plan in association with other voluntary

organizations engaged in social changes.

I wish the District Red Cross Society, Kullu a grand

success.

The Red Cross is an international voluntary organization meant for

humanitarian services. The Red Cross was established in 1863 in Geneva. The

Indian Red Cross Society with its headquarters at New Delhi was established

under the Indian Red Cross Society Act 1920 and providing relief in times of

disasters/emergencies and promoting health care of vulnerable people and

communities.

The Red Cross Society, District Branch, Kullu was incorporated on 01-

04-1998 under Indian Red Cross Society Act. 1920 ( as amended by Act No. 22 of

1956 and adoption of law’s (No.4) order 1957 and Act No 14 of 1992.) and is

working under the Himachal Pradesh State Branch of Red Cross, The District

Branch follows the aims and objectives of the Indian Red Cross Society as per

1st schedule of Act XV of 1920 as amended from time to time. The district

branch has the jurisdiction over entire area of Kullu district. The district branch

has its own bye laws for the management, functions, operations, control and

procedure of the Society. The office of District Branch is located in Deputy

Commissioner’s office Kullu, District Kullu (HP).

Our Mission

The mission of Red Cross Society is to inspire , encourage and initiate at

all times , all forms of humanitarian activities so that human sufferings can

be minimized and even prevented and thus contribute to creating more

congenial climate for peace, progress, prosperity and health.

Members

The District Branch, Kullu has enrolled 12 Patrons, 26 Vice-patrons, 371 Life

members & 6 Institutional members.

1. World Red Cross Day

On 8th May 2015, World Red Cross Day was celebrated at Dev Sadan Kullu

with the theme "Power of Humanity: The Fundamental Principles in

Action".

Motivational campaign for voluntary blood donations was launched. A

voluntary blood donation camp was organized. Volunteers from SSB, ITBP,

NYK, ITI & NGOs donated 45 units of blood.

A talk on the ‘Diabetes’ was organized at Dev Sadan, Kullu. Around 250

persons from all walks of life attended the programme. Medical

Specialist from Regional Hospital, Kullu made a power point presentation

to the audience on early symptoms, causes of diabetes, complications and

its management.

2. Financial assistance to poor & needy persons

Rs. 17,64,442/- were provided to 506 persons for purchase of medicines/

treatments and undergoing surgeries etc.

3. Financial assistance to Regional Hospital, Kullu

For the up gradation of existing infrastructure, financial assistance was

provided to Regional Hospital, Kullu as per detail mentioned below.

Rs. 5,91,119/- provided for setting up of Dialysis Centre.

Rs. 1,99,500/- provided for the purchase of blood collector monitor and

bag/ tube sealing machine.

Rs. 1,13,750/- provided to Blood Bank Society, Kullu for purchase of dead

body van.

4. Financial assistance to poor students

Rs. 53,950/- were provided to three poor students for pursuing their

studies.

5. Financial assistance to Kotla fire sufferer

An amount of Rs. 1,08,87,896/- collected as donation to provide relief to

the fire sufferers.

Relief of Rs. 43,87,422/-provided to 49 families through SDM Banjar.

Remaining amount will be released on the receipt of proposal for the

development of infrastructural facilities in village Kotla.

6. Ambulance Services

Three ambulance vans of Red Cross deployed at Regional Hospital, Kullu

for providing services to the patients on nominal charges.

152 patients were provided ambulance services on nominal charges

whereas 32 patients were provided free ambulance services.

One dead body van deployed at Regional Hospital, Kullu.

133 dead bodies were sent to their homes free of cost whereas in case of

37 dead bodies nominal charges were taken.

7. Voluntary blood donation camp

A voluntary blood donation camps was organized on 27 August 2015. 50

volunteers from SSB, NYK & NGOs participated in the camp and donated

50 units of blood.

A voluntary blood donation camp was organized through an NGO – Lala

Meme Foundation at Kullu.

Rs. 15000/- provided to above said NGO for organizing blood donation

camp.

8. Day Care Centres For Older Persons

Two Day Care Centres for Senior Citizens have been setup at Kullu &

Nirmand. Around 60-70 senior citizens have been provided following day care

services:-

Health checkup, counseling for proper diet & nutrition by part time

medical doctors;

Recreational facilities like news papers, magazines, books, television,

indoor games like carom, luddo, chess etc;

Refreshment facilities on demand on payment basis, peer interaction and

entertainment facilities in these centres.

Talks / discussions on legal rights of older persons organized through

Distrct Legal Authority.

9. Help Line for Older Persons

To facilitate the older persons, a Help Line no. 01902-222030 has been setup

at Kullu. The Help Line provide information and access to the services like old

age homes, day care centres, hospitals, medical practitioners, pharmacies,

legal aid, wills, legacies and maintenance, clubs and associations, government

schemes/facilities for older persons. The elders who are living in isolation &

neglect are also being provided counseling and rescue /relief services, etc.

through the Help Line.

10. Adoption of homes for destitute

The District Red Cross Society has adopted homes for destitute children, old

age home, etc and provided financial assistance as per detail mentioned

below:-

Rs. 55,000/- provided to Children Home Manali being run by RADHA

NGO.

Gifts worth Rs. 63,076/- provided to the children of Bal Ashram, Kalehli

(Kullu) being run by HP Council for Child Welfare.

Spectacles worth Rs. 3000/- provided to the inmates of old age home,

Kalath (Manali).

11. Red Cross Mela

To raise the funds for the implementation of various programmes of Red

Cross and for the propagation of fundamental principles of Red Cross,

District level Red Cross Mela was organized on 26th & 27th August 2015 at

Dhalpur ground, Kullu:-

The departments of Health & Family Welfare, Forest Farming &

Conservation, Agriculture, Horticulture, Sarav Shiksha Abhiyan,

Tourism, Electricity Board etc. organized exhibitions by displaying

their activities.

Self help groups and cooperative societies displayed/sold their

products in the Mela

Students and staff from local schools/colleges, ladies member of Red

Cross, Department of I&PH, PWD put up food stalls.

Sports competitions like Tug of War, Chess competitions, fun games

and sports for special children were organized.

Mini marathon for all age groups was organized.

Tambola was organized by SEVAK NGO.

Sham- e – Gazal was organized.

Aids and Appliances were distributed to the children with special

needs and other persons with disabilities.

A voluntary blood donation camp was organized.

12. Fund raising

Two vice patrons, Seven life members were enrolled.

Rs. 2,71,320/- collected as donation.

Rs. 17,15,000/- collected by organizing Tambola during Dussehra Mela.

Rs. 42,85,815/- generated from raffle draw.

13. Other activities

To disseminate the activities and achievements of District Red Cross

Society, a stall was installed in the Dussehra Mela 2015.

Photographs of major activities organized during the year were

displayed and visitors were also persuaded to donate for Red Cross and

join as a member.
