Presidents Report
Firstly I would like to thank our partners Diving Australia, VenuesWest, Western Australian
Institute of Sport and the Department of Sport and Recreation for their ongoing and
continued support.
I would also like to thank the Diving WA board members, administration, coaches, judges,
parents, athletes and volunteers. Diving would not continue without you all.
To say the least the 2014/2015 year has been one of change for Diving Western Australia
(DWA).
The fire at Sports Lotteries House at the end of 2014 resulted in a devastating loss of
everything physical, bar a few historic pieces which we were able to rescue, along with the
trophies. As we had just completed an upgrade in IT and a cloud based server, we were able
to save all electronic info, which meant little disruption was caused to our everyday
business. This fire resulted in a relocation of the office to Beatty Park giving us the
opportunity to establish closer ties with Swimming WA, Synchro WA and AustSwim.
From a structural point of view we have seen the amalgamation of the club (Arrows) with
DWA, a new logo developed in line with DA’s branding and a name change to align with a
more modern approach and image. In addition there has been growth in the development
squads and an introduction of a full time CEO.
The amalgamation of Arrows with DWA has allowed us to establish a clear pathway for divers
at all levels of the sport. The transition was predominantly at an administrative level and
was done with as little disruption to divers and coaches as possible. I’d like to express my
thanks to Debbs Van Hagen (club owner) Mike Tinley (Head Coach) and Rosie Irvine (Club
Liaison) for making this transition seamless. I would also like to thank Joe Meszaros (Coach
Development Manager) who has worked tirelessly in establishing the athlete development
pathway from Learn to Dive through to High Performance, in combination with the
management and the coaches.
The Governance Reform resulted in a need for an update to the constitution and saw a
return to voting by the members. It also allowed all coaches to come under contract with
DWA.
The transition to our first ever full time CEO (Steve Rose) has enabled the sport to progress
in leaps and bounds in the past 4 months. Thanks Steve for bringing your enthusiasm and
sporting knowledge to DWA. I’d like to thank Emma Taylor, our outgoing CEO, for the
amazing effort she put into the handling of the fire, office transition, amalgamation of the
club and the writing of necessary new policies and the constitution.
Our sport relies on the assistance of many volunteers, especially in the running of events.
I’d like to thank everyone who volunteered on the table, computer, judging, and setting up
and all other behind the scenes jobs. In particular Lorraine Keeney for her tireless work at
events, Graham Furness for volunteering as our technical events wiz, Eliza Cole for quietly
going about the organisation of judges and Rosie Irvine for her assistance in liaising with
members, chasing up entries, dive sheets and many other things on pool deck.
It should be noted that Maddison Keeney, Teju Williamson and Joshua Ong represented
Australia internationally in the past year. We look forward to them continuing their roles in
the Australian Team and other divers joining them in the future. Teams, squads and results
are included later in this report.

Moving forward the Board has been developing a new strategic plan in partnership with the
members. This will further identify the future needs of the sport. The election of the new
Board at the 2015 AGM will be the first step in this process in leading the strategic direction
of the sport, in combination with the new management.
On a personal note, it is time for my journey with WA Diving to come to an end, in a hands
on capacity. In my 35 years with the sport I have fulfilled every role in the association and
have enjoyed each and every one. In my role as Australian Team manager I have been lucky
to travel the world with amazingly talented divers, memories I will treasure. I have watched
the sport grow resulting in Olympic Gold medals and I can’t wait to see what the future
holds. Diving has given me so much and I’m sure it will do so for every future member.
Finally, I would like to wish Steve and the incoming Board well for the year ahead. I will be
keenly following everything that is achieved.

Chief Executive Officers Report
I would firstly like to thank everyone for welcoming me to the sport of diving. A special thank you to Emma Taylor, previous Executive Director and the Board for their efforts over the last year and assistance since I have started in the role of CEO. I am looking forward to developing the sport of diving further in WA.
The sport has been through a lot of change during 14/15. The fire at SLH has tested us, and
the resilience of those involved has shone and helped diving continue. The amalgamation of
the Arrows Diving Academy with the association aims to bring together the sport, the
coaches and the members, to build and grow, from grass roots through to the elite. As we
move forward, we are now one big club, a family, and the success of the sport will be a
credit to all involved.
Below is a further update on areas from the 14/15 season. As we finalise and implement a
new strategic plan, future annual reports will focus on the key strategic areas and reported
against.
Coaching
WA had 10 qualified coaches with Diving Australia as at May 2015 and a Level 1 Coaching
course was also held in June 2015. Diving Australia have been working on the Coach
Accreditation Scheme for the past year and once the new scheme is in place, Diving WA will
aim to run at least 2 courses per year, for both new and current coaches.
Officiating
Eliza Cole has continued her work as State Judging Coordinator. WA had 22 qualified officials
with Diving Australia as at May 2015, with many of these also being current divers and
coaches. Diving WA will continue to work with Eliza to promote judging/officiating, running
courses and developing our current and new groups of officials.
Competitions
Diving WA ran 8 competitions over the past season. Each competition involved multiple
events across elite, age and novice streams. The association will continue to build and
develop the current events, ensuring all athletes have an opportunity to compete at all
levels, and ultimately have fun.
Facilities
HBF Stadium continues to be the main diving facility for all Diving WA activities. Thank you
to VenuesWest for your continued support to Diving WA. Our teams enjoy using the high
quality training facilities at HBF Stadium. Further work is being done by the association to
reengage with local councils and facility operators to explore opportunities for diving.
Diving WA is now moving into an exciting phase as we work to build and grow the sport of
diving. Some of the key areas that are starting to develop include:
Governance and Management
Strategic Plan
The board, in conjunction with the management, have been working on the 2015-2018
Strategic Plan, which aligns closely with Diving Australia’s strategic plan. The key strategic
areas are Governance and Management, Sport Development, High Performance and
6 | P a g e
Facilities. Further work will be done with the membership around the values of the
association, before the new board finalises and the management implement the plan.
Website and Branding
Diving WA has converted the logo and website to align with the new direction of Diving
Australia. The website will continue to be updated with further information to become more
usable for our members, and we will begin to develop branding around the new logo.
Sport Development
Schools
The association will again play a more active role engaging with schools. Some of this work
has begun during Term 3 2015, and will continue into 2016. This will include engaging with
the school associations such as School Sport WA (SSWA) and the Independent Girls Schools
Sport Association (IGSSA).
Member services
The association will be taking a more active role in providing members with information and
development opportunities, as well as added benefits to being a member of diving. This will
be done through the development of relationships and agreements with sponsors and
external providers. This development will not only assist the divers, but also the parents
and coaches.
High Performance
Athlete Pathway
The development of the athlete pathway will see a holistic approach for the sport from grass
roots through to elite. This will allow new and existing people to the sport to see where
they can start, continue or progress their diving journey, and also shows a pathway for
coaches to develop and progress through the sport.
International Diving Event
We will begin to investigate the potential for an international diving event, along with
national events, to be held in WA. This will also be done in conjunction with other water
sports to broaden current events and potentially incorporate diving.
Facilities
Further work will be done to re-engage with local councils and facility operators to explore
the potential of diving again being involved in new and existing facilities. This will also
include discussions around existing and potential dry land facilities.
I look forward to the season ahead and working with you all to build and grow the sport of
diving in WA.
