Once again it has been a wonderful year of our collaboration with SPIEwhich has helped us to enrich our knowledge in photonics, optics, bio-medical engineering, digital image processing and several other fields ofphysics and electronics. This year also we have organized severalseminars and talks by eminent professors and lecturers from renowneduniversities of various countries and they have enlightened us ondifferent topics. Apart from this some educational tours were organizedby our chapter for our chapter members. Hope we keep enjoying ourassociation with the organization and keep learning more and increaseour knowledge.

Inspire Science Camp
(27-31 janUARY, 12-16 May & 7-11 September 2015)
STUDENT Chapter members actively participated in Department ofScience and Technology (DST), Govt. of India sponsored INSPIREScience Camp.
The basic objectives of INSPIRE are to attract talented youngstudents of high school to undertake Science studies at an early stageand to help build the required critical human research & developmentbase of our Nation. It is a program with a long term foresight.
The camp was co-ordinated by Prof. Indrani Bhattacharya supported byfaculty members of IEM. SPIE student chapter members were activelyinvolved in setting up the laboratories related to basic sciences andconduced lab classes including robotics and with a special emphasis on lightbased experiments.
Around 160 students of Class XI, with SCIENCE background, fromvarious schools all over Kolkata and other district as well participated in thiscamp.
Glimpses of INSPIRE SCIENCE CAMP
The first outreach program was organized on 23-03-2015 at DwarbasiniGirls’ High School, Hooghly, West Bengal, India which is 25 km awayfom Kolkata, where the students were all first generation learners.
Around 200 students(all girls) who were basically from standard IX andX, attended the program.
We gave them an idea about light and its various properties. We alsodemonstrated various experiments which was based on the properties oflight. We demonstrated the working of various instruments like telescope, kaleidoscope, pin hole camera, etc..
