What is the National Society ofAccountants for Cooperatives?

The National Society of Accountants for Cooperatives (NSAC) is aprofessional society, formed in 1936, comprised of more than 1,400individual members actively involved with the financial management andplanning of cooperative business.

NSAC members are either employed by a cooperative or provideprofessional services for cooperatives. NSAC 2005 Annual Convention & Tax Seminar

The tax seminar offers a full day oftechnical sessions for the taxprofessional.

Concurrent sessions allowparticipants to pick a topic of theirchoice. Speakers from across thenation and all tax professions cover abroad range of topics for both thesmall and large cooperative andinclude a basic session on thePrinciples of Cooperative Taxation forthose new to cooperatives.

You will have the opportunity tohear Mike McIntyre and JoelDahlgren discuss new equity issuesimpacting cooperatives, apresentation which has been highlyrated by numerous cooperativeboards of directors. George Benson,a former NSAC President andleading cooperative tax authority, willspeak on current case and rulingactivity impacting cooperatives andMarlis Carson, Vice President,Legal, Tax & Accounting for theNational Council of FarmerCooperatives, will speak on issuesbefore Congress that could impactyour cooperative. Dan Mott will bringparticipants up-to-date on theuniform cooperative law project andimpact of new state statutes.

Come hear experienced NSAC taxprofessionals in panel discussionscovering the impact of AJCA ondeferred compensation, new rulesrelating to the manufacturingdeduction and how they may impactyour cooperative, and the results ofthis year’s IRS survey report.

Monday, August 1 (9:45 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.)Take a Walk on the Fun Side:Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk

Board the bus at 9:45 a.m. outside the Portola Plaza Hotelentrance for a little over an hour trip up the coast to the PacificCoast’s only major seaside amusement park located on a mile-longbeach bordering the Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary. Bethe first to arrive as the park opens at 11:00 a.m. This isCalifornia’s oldest amusement park, home to two National HistoricLandmarks: the 1911 Looff Carousel and the 1924 Giant Dipperroller coaster. The park also offers a variety of children’s rides,games, arcades, laser tag, restaurants, an indoor miniature golfcourse, bowling, and entertainment for the entire family. Admissionto the Boardwalk is free and your price includes a group discountedall-day ride pass. There is plenty to do and see or just relax on thesandy white beach. New for 2005: There’s a DOUBLE SHOT ofthrills at the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk in 2005 as the parklaunches its newest thrill ride! This exciting new 125-foot tall towerride sends riders skywards at more than 3 G’s for a breathtakingview of the California Coast. On the way back down riders willexperience the weightlessness of negative G’s as they are shotback down to earth. The Boardwalk features 35 rides and over 15specialty shops. The arcade houses more than 300 of the mostpopular video and pinball games and includes a laser tag arena.With so much to do and see, you won’t be bored! And for thoseconnoisseurs of mouth-watering amusement park food, there areover 30 restaurants from which you can choose. Monday, August 1 (10:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.)17-Mile ‘Movie Tour’

You’ll board the specially-designed coach from the entrance of thePortola Plaza Hotel at 10:00 a.m. to begin the Movie Tour of theMonterey Peninsula. Stops will be made at Bird Rock, which willtake about 45 minutes to get to, then on to Lone Cypress Tree andthe Lodge at Pebble Beach. Drive time between the second andthird stops will be about 10 minutes.

Did you know that memorable scenes in nearly 200 movies havebeen filmed on the Monterey Peninsula? Since 1987 the dramaticbeauty of the Monterey Peninsula has attracted directors, cinema-tographers and movie stars from around the world. Follow in theirfootsteps by traveling to many famous movie sites located inMonterey, Pacific Grove, Pebble Beach and Carmel. Watch scenes

Tuesday, August 2 (9:30 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.)National Steinbeck Center and Wine Tour

You will pull out of the entrance of the Portola PlazaHotel at 9:30 a.m. to be taken to The National SteinbeckCenter, which is a $15 million, 43,000 square foot museumand archive in Salinas, California—-Nobel-prize winningauthor John Steinbeck’s birthplace. The Center offers thevisitor three distinct experiences through interactiveexhibits and film. Mark your calendars for Wednesday,August 3, 2005. It is NSAC’s annual golftournament to be held at the beautiful, butchallenging Bayonet Golf Course. Aminimum of 40 players are needed to beginwith a shotgun start of 2:00 p.m. in a 4-person scramble format.Registration and lunch will begin at 12:30p.m. at the Club House, with driving rangeavailability until 2:00 p.m.

With over 7,094 yards of oak and cypresslined fairways, Bayonet Golf Course wasdesigned in 1954 by General Robert McClure,the Commanding Officer of the post at thattime. McClure, a left-handed golfer with asevere slice, designed the course to fit hisgame. This is evidenced by holes #11-15, aseries of sharp doglegs, widely known as“Combat Corner,” interrupted only by a 215yard uphill par 3. Notoriously known for itsmagnificently manicured, long, and narrowfairways, Bayonet is one tough but rewarding18-hole adventure. With four sets of tees, thecourse is a par 72, with a slope of 139 and arating of 75.1. Jack Nicklaus has said, “#4on Bayonet is the toughest par 5 in golf.”Bayonet offers golf enthusiasts an experiencethey are unlikely to forget! Tournament feesare $100 per player and include greens fees,1/2 cart and lunch. WeatherThe weather in Monterey County

varies significantly depending uponthe time of year, the time of dayand the area visited. The coast isconsistently mild, with an averagetemperature of 57 degrees year-round. Warm clear days and coolnights characterize the spring andautumn months. Summer tends tobring fog, especially early and latein the day. Inland temperaturestend to be more extreme withhigher temperatures in the sum-mer. Sunscreen is a wise precau-tion especially inland. Dressing inlayers is advised since the varia-tions in climate are so great.Generally, light- to medium-weightclothing is appropriate.
