Lego master builder Steve Gerling was the leader of the project to build a2.5-meter-tallversion of Thomas Edison's light bulb. August is National Inventors'Month, and the lightbulb is the symbol for a big idea.

More than 10,000 kids helped build the giant plastic structure with hundreds ofthousands of Lego bricks. It took two days to build it.

Gerling has been a Lego master builder for 13 yeats. For this project, he first made adrawing of the light bulb and then built a smaller prototype. "Anything can be built withLego," the master builder says, "but such large projects need extra support. The light bulbis a huge round shape and it has got some glued parts to make sure it holds."

The Lego light bulb was built in the National Museum of American History wherevisitors can learn more about important inventions in the "Invention at Play" exhibition.

But the Lego light bulb will not stand the test of time. It was constructed in the middleof the museum's entrance and was broken down right after the project was completed.

Treasure hunter Terry Herbeft, 55, found ancient gold and silver objects in a field inEngland in July. He has hunted for treasure using a metal detector for the past l8 years. Inthat time, he's never found anything especially valuable. But on July 5, his luck changed. This also changed historians'view of Britain's history. In a field in Staffordshire, England.Herbeft found ancient artefacts. Archaeologists are amazed at the size of the discovery.More than 1,300 pieces have been uncovered.

The arlefacts date from between 67 5 and 725, in a period that is sometimes called the"DarkAges" because of a lot of fighting. The gold in the collection weighs five kilograms. That means that England during the Dark Ages was richer than historians thought.

Anglo-Saxons ruled England from the fifth century to 1066. Much of the treasure rsmilitary, including parts of helmets and swords. Other artefacts are religious, includingcrosses and gold objects with biblical writings. Archaeologists believe people buried thelreasure to hide it from enemies.

Herbert says that flnding gold was "more fun than winning the lottery.', It maybetter, too. The collection, which could be worlh about f I million, will be soldmuseum. Herbert and his friend who owns the field where the treasure was buriedsplit the money.
