The pencil museum

Re - Branding

The aim of this project was to rebrand a museum of my choice giving it a new logo, designing and coding a new website and then to make a style guide.

The handy guide to hand guides.

A project in which we had to create a niche guide which could be useful for a variety of audiences. I chose to make my guide on hand signals as these are universal throughout the world. The book is meant to be able to fit into any pocket.

How many cameras do you own?

Iv got about 3, 3 or 4 at home. Cannon, Nikon, Has-selblad and a couple of polar-oid’s and a little digital compact.

Which is your favorite?

The compact camera because I get so fed up of carrying lights and kit about its just nice to have a lit-tle compact camera stuck in your pocket or coat pocket and when you see something you can just snap it without sometimes thinking about exposure and lenses and things like that so its nice to know you can just snap and compose your picture. Instead of carrying loads of kit.

Do you prefer film or digital cameras?

Um good question, I like both, film was really nice its always nice to process black and whit film and print black and white photos. Its nice to process colour negative and hand print your own colour prints but obviously you have to move with the time and digital, Yes, its exciting its excellent but I find it sometimes is a little bit tedious at times but the quality is superb and its nearly better than film in some circumstances but yeah digitals good and its here to stay so we’ve got to go with it and go with the flow.

Do you do any freelance photog-raphy??

Only a little bit, not much at this present time. I used to do up un-til about 18 months ago I used to do a lot but its finding the time when you’ve been working 5-6 days a week you just need a break. But when I was younger about 18 - 25 I used to be doing a lot more as much as I could but then you start to slow done a little. It would be nice. I don’t do my own personal work be-cause by the time you get home you just want to do what you want to do , and its not always photography. What made you decide to be-come a teacher/ technician?

Well im not technicaly a teacher its more but it is slightly drifting towards doing more demonstra-tion and tutoring] its not lectur-ing standard but the diference between the lecturers and the technical staff is that the tech-nical staff should support the lecturing staff, but its start-ing to change a little bit espe-cially in my role that im doing more demonstrations on the technical side on my own andsometimes the lecturers depend on the technical staff to support them a little bit more particularly in the studio were doing a lot more demo’s

What kind of photography jobs did you do before?

Mainly P.R work, press, archi-tectural work and comeercial, weddings, working for newspa-pers and freelancing for news-papers, and stuff like that.

What made you decide to be a photographer?

Good question, I failed my medical for the air force and I wasn’t going to be able to do

what I wanted to do in the air force so I was quite interested in photography this is

going back when I was about 16 or 17 and I liked photography so I started doing more

photography. And I got an apprenticeship and I just carried on until the present day.

When and why did you start dancing?

I started dancing for a class when I was 3 but didn’t start a competitive class till I was 5 I was always dancing from the moment I could stand id just start bopping when there was music on, meaning my mum put me into a toddler dance class on Saturday mornings basi-cally just learning dances to nurs-ery rhymes and children’s songs. When I was 4 I was at my town’s local shopping cen-tre and there was a display byAn Irish dancing school, I watched amaze and told my mum that I wanted to do that, it wasn’t until a few weeks later when my parents went to parents evening and a teach-er told them that i had told her that I was learning Irish dancing that my mum found a class for me to join.Since then I’ve also had class-es in ballet, jazz, street, con-temporary and cheerleading.

Do you still dance now?

I still dance now within the uni-versity cheerleading squad after retiring from competitive Irish dancing in 2010. Retiring sounds so strange considering that I’m 19 but it’s the term used within dancing. When a dancer reaches adulthood and decides to focus on other things such as univer-sity, job or having a family rather than pursuing dance as a career.

How many medals do you have?

I have over 500 and about 100 trophies also, their main-ly for Irish dancing as this was my main style of dance.

What’s your favourite style of dance?

I love all styles of dance but would say my favourite was al-ways Irish dancing as it was the only style that i constantly com-peted in from a very young age.

What have you achieved and what’s your biggest achievement?

I have achieved many things through dancing that I’m proud of, i have danced at a lot of big venues including the royal Albert hall, the palladium, her majesty theatre, Birmingham n.i.a and Disneyland Paris. I also took my gsce in dance 2 years early at age 14 and achieved an a grade which I’m very proud off. However my biggest achievement is achieving the under 18 European champi-onship title in 2008 and then be-ing part of a team that came 3rd at the world championships in 2009.
