But Not For Me is comprised of
music inspired by the great pianist,
AhmadJamal, and his highly
personal arrangements of popular
jazz standards, recorded between
1958 and 1961 with his celebrated
trio, featuring Israel Corsby on bass
and Vernel Fournier on drums.
This legendary group was known
for its elegant, swinging music, with
phrasing and harmony stemming
out of the bebop era, though they
were also innovative and original
with their sound and concept for
the piano trio setting.
Bassist Andreas Dreier has
brought his trio together again for
this record, on the heels of their
critically acclaimed debut album,
Poinciana (2014). Expanding on the
territory covered on the previous
outing, the music presented on
But Not For Me is an adaptation
of Jamal's classic arrangements,
some adhered to more closely than
others, allowing for the influence
of their own individual personalities
to shine through. With one of
Norway’s leading jazz guitarists,
Bjørn Vidar Solli, the Italy-based
Australian drummer, Adam Pache,
on board this trio is at once elegant
and gritty with its approach to the
chosen repertoire: a fine tribute to
one of the most important piano
trios in the history of jazz.
