Mark 3:7Jesus withdrew with his disciples to the sea . . .

Mark 3:7-8Jesus withdrew with his disciples to the sea and a great crowd followed, from Galilee and Judea and Jerusalem and Idumea and from beyond the Jordan and from around Tyre and Sidon. When the great crowd heard all that he was doing, they came to him.

IDUMEA

Tyre and SidonPeople were

flocking to Jesus from ALL over Palestine

(and beyond!)

A hindrance?

Page 11: And the beat goes on . . . mark 3 7-35 - feb 10 2013

Mark 3:9-10And he told his disciples to have a boat ready for him because of the crowd, lest they crush him . . .

Scene 1: A Great Crowd

for he had healed

many, so that all who had diseases

pressed around him to touch him.

What was Jesus primaryministry, that of healingthe sick OR heralding the

Page 13: And the beat goes on . . . mark 3 7-35 - feb 10 2013

Mark 1:14-15Now after John was arrested, Jesus came into Galilee, proclaiming the gospel of God, and saying, “The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand; repent and believe in the gospel.”

Scene 1: A Great Crowd

Page 14: And the beat goes on . . . mark 3 7-35 - feb 10 2013

SO it was in this way that this great crowd pressing upon Jesus was actually

hindering him in his mission: they came to touch him, NOT to hear him!

Scene 1: A Great Crowd

Page 15: And the beat goes on . . . mark 3 7-35 - feb 10 2013

- Was a very large crowd.- Contained more than just “the locals.” - Was a desperate crowd filled with

hurting people. - Contained some who were afflicted by

demons.
