ArchitectureisacornerstoneofancientIslamicart.BothreligiousandpublicarchitecturewerepromotedbytheUmayyaddynastyoftheseventhcentury.WorksliketheDomeoftheRockinJerusalemandtheGreatMosqueofDamascusrepresentcelebratedUmayyadworks.OthergreatIslamicarchitecturalworksincludethefamedBlueMosqueofSamarkand,theSioseBridgeofIran,andAlhambraofSpain.
IslamiccalligraphyisanothercornerstoneofIslamicart.OftenQu'ranicversesadornedworksofarchitectureaswellaspaintingsandotherartworks.InitiallycalligraphywaspresentedinArabicscript,butPersian,Turkish,andotherscriptscanalsobefound.CalligraphyalsopresentinthepaintingsoftheIslamicworld.ThoughwallpaintingswerepopularintheIslamictradition,thebestpreservedpaintedworksofIslamicartareworksofilluminatedtextsandminiaturepaintings.Also,nooverviewofIslamicartcouldbecompletewithoutmentionoftherugsandcarpetsproducedbyIslamicartisans.FamousOrientalrugshavebeencelebratedthroughouttheworldfortheirbeautyand
