The Eye

The main colours in this poster are browns, the image looks like it has a sepia filter on it. The main symbol on the poster is the eye with the hand coming out of it, if the audience have seen or know the film or even the trailer, then they will understand what this means. If the audience know nothing about the film then I think the image can still be understood to a certain extent. The main image is a photo that has been edited to show a hand coming from within it. The messages within the poster are represented visually, there’s no writing about the film on the poster or any information about the actual film. Just the title of it and an image. It doesn’t appear that the poster uses any persuasive techniques to gain an audience but I think that the lack of quotes saying how good the film is from experts etc. actually help to persuade people to see the film. The less is more approach is used really well on this poster. The name Jessica Alba is used as a USP, she is a famous and attractive actress that people would probably be drawn too. There is no tagline, expert witness quotes or any gratifications promised unlike most posters. There is a lot of institutional context at the bottom of the poster telling the audience which companies were involved with the film. The image is very large and seems quite an important feature on the poster, following that is the title “THE EYE” the word eye is written in bold showing a certain amount of importance as a feature, this is what the photo is of so all links in with each other. The institutional information is small and at the bottom of the poster so doesn’t seem as if it is a very important feature of the poster, it seems as if it’s only on there because it has to be. To the audience the most important feature on a film poster is the image and film title and this poster only really uses those features. But does so very well. I think that this poster is a really effective poster with the way it uses persuasive techniques effectively and does this to attract as many as they can to see the poster then be so intrigued with the lack of information on the poster that they have to see the film.

The ConjuringThe colours on the poster are very dark and dull they connote the darkness that is within the film. The main symbol on the poster is the girl in a rocking chair with the “Annabelle” doll. The audience would know the significance of the doll if they have watched the film but if not then the doll is just a creepy doll. The main objects of the poster are represented photographically, the photo of the girl holding the doll. Also dolls and rocking chairs are quite common features of the film and this poster uses them both so the genre of the film is conveyed really obviously through the images and objects used for the image.
